The Sony Xplod boombox is the perfect sound machine and it has the ability to read MP3 CD which is something the last Xplod couldn't do. It can play CD-R and CD-RW and tapes even. The thing gets really loud and the bass doesn't distort-it sounds perfect and really makes the music sound so much better. If you are not use to lugging somewhat heavy objects around though its size might intimidate you. But it really isn't too bad at all and you get used to it. For what you get out of it, it's worth lugging around. The unit also has the ability to hook up to digital music players directly! I used it for parties and going to the lake and I am just telling you if you want more bang for the buck or boom for the buck, this is the box for you.

The tuner, tape, and cd sound excellent. The only boombox in a lower or higher class with three amplifiers. The power output is loud and has great quality. The bass is deep and distortion free. The sound is almost unbeleiveable considering the size of the speakers and the unit. The Sony comes close to eighties boomboxes. I recently bought a JVC PCX 250. I heard the Sony with its superior sound and I had to take the JVC back. The Sony is exactly the opposite. I plugged my PS2 up to the Game X Pad and it worked perfectly. The sound takes gaming to another level. The only problem was the small LCD screen with no backlight. The remote control should control the tape; but it does'nt. The radio is also a little thick; but I supposed the bass would not be as deep if it were thinner. I bought mine for $129.00; but saw it cheaper online for $114.00. The price is not that bad for the powerhouse sound it gives. Sony has one of the only boomboxes worthy of the word "Boombox".

I'm very satisfied with its sound and looking. It is a little bit expensive because paying same price ($ 129) or 10-20 more, you can easily buy book-shelf style products. But Sony brand name deserves the right to be expensive. The major strength of this product is deep bass sound, thank to its Power Drive Woofer. I haven't tried "gamexpand", but if someone is looking for sound effects when playing games it would be nice. The major weaknesses are; lack of auto reverse in cassette, lack of remote control operation in cassette and small LCD screen without illumination. If somebody is dealing with this product, unfortunately it is not available everywhere, but it is available in J&R in Lower Manhattan. As a last word; I did not give "5" rating to this product. In its class, it is a very very good product, but with this price do not expect to much! Sincerely, M.C. YENER
