I really hate that machine by chechilita ,Sep 29 '04
Pros: It works OK with generic inks of good quality. Cons: It consumes color ink even if you print only b&w.
I really, really hate this machine. Since I bought it i have found how a company can be so deceiving. I use it only for black and white printing, but that doesnt matter because the color cartidge capacity dissapears little by little. Once when the color cartridge signaled it was empty i opened it and my hands got really dirty and also the cardboard under it. There was plenty of ink in it! I took many pictures of the event. I imagine Epson wants us to buy their expensive cartridge, which I stopped doing when i discoverd their tricky business. I buy generic, althoug sometimes they dont work very well, depending on the brand. I plan to smash it from the second floor of my house as soon as I buy a laser printer.
Pros: Great price, photo printing was good, replacement Ink Cartridges inexpensive. Cons: This printer is not for the professional , who make a living at printing
I just recently purchased the Epson C62, and I'm pleased with its performance, It's a great little printer for the regular guy, My photos I printed out where
excellent and on top of that you can purchase the ink cartridges on Amazon. com, black and color really cheap, I mean really cheap under 3.00 and they work just fine. Great buy!
Pros: good print quality for the price Cons: noisy and it does not hold alot of paper, maybe 25 sheets at a time.
I've had mine for a couple of years now so this is an unbiased, experienced opinion. If you need a printer that does decent photos and can give you quality print jobs this is the printer for you. I'm sure the print quality would be even better if I used Epson ink, but I don't need top quality print jobs so I go on the cheap and get the cheapest 3rd party ink I can find. The nozzles do clog but that could be attributed to the quality of the ink being used. It does go through ink pretty quick if you do alot of color printing. I have definitely noticed a drop in the quality of color prints since I first bought it about 4 years ago, again, this could be because of the quality of the ink. If you do alot of printing you might want to look at something else. If you don't ask alot of your printer this is the printer for you.
Pros: None Cons: Expensive to repair after spool function was out of commission, slow to print.
After the year warranty expired so did this printer's ability to spool. It cost $75 just to be looked at by Epson's recommended service center no where near my home. I decided it was cheaper to buy a new printer. I also never received my rebate after purchase from Epson. Beware!
Great Printer for Starters by g-smooth ,Nov 22 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, Piezo Printing Longer Lasting Cons: doesn't rely on thermal printing like Canon and HP.
I currently use this printer since 2003.
It's a good printer compared to HP, Canon, Lexmark.
It's very reliable and has a good depreciation.
Performance is good
Piezo Printing instead of Thermal ink technology.
There are two types of inkjet printers:
Thermal inkjets relies on the older technology. It heats the ink in the cartridge, causing vapor bubbles in the cartridge that rise to the top and force the ink out through the nozzle. The vacuum caused by the expelled ink draws more ink down into the nozzles, making a constrant stream.
Piezo Printing uses an electric charge instead of heat. It charges piezoelectric crystals in the nozzles, which change their shape as a result of the electric current, forcing the ink out through the nozzles.
Heat is never good for hardware, and piezo printing eliminates the need for it; there-fore, the printers can use better (less heat-durable) inks that are less prone to smearing. The nozzles also last longer because they aren't punished by high temperatures day in and day out.
That is the difference between Epson's Piezo Printing technology and the other printer makers technology. the other printer makers consist of Canon, HP, Lexmark, etc.
Pros: NONE- prints fast but you need several prints to get a good document. Cons: NOISY, EATS INK, NEVER PRINTS IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
I got one of these pieces of crap when my Canon BJC 1000 died. I wish I had got another Canon. This thing goes through ink even when I'm not printing, and takes me about 3 pieces of paper to print a 1 page document. The first piece of paper is used to print the document the first time, which never turns out. I use another paper for troubleshooting, printing test pages on, test patterns, etc, and a third paper for printing the final document.
NEVER BUY EPSON
Absolute piece of garbage by macevhicz ,Jan 13 '06
Pros: Pros? Cons: Inability to feed paper is constant problem. Cleaning tool, barely works, if at all.
Unless your a masochist, I highly recommend avoid this printer. Frankly, I'm amazed Epson has the cajones to sell this pile. It has a few annoying, yet not tragic fault, like being very loud, hard-to-predict non-printing areas at edges. But it has bigger problems as well. For instance, when the heads need cleaning, you can plan on spending a good 20-30 minutes repeatedly running the head-cleaner tool, and even then you may not get significant improvement.
Even more infuriating is it's problematic paper feed. I often find myself having to manually place single sheets into the feeder. It often just shoots paper through, or starts to grab the sheet, then loses it and just spins its motors. Then it has the nerve to tell me the paper wasn't loaded correctly. The error message would be more accurate to say "Printer is pile of trash. Please pull out hair, then try again. Of course, don't count on it working then either."
This printer was a big disappointment for me. The printer is fine for lots of black and whites, however, I can't endorse it due to color problems. Be sure to use it frequently-don't let it sit unused or the ink will become a nightmare. It is also a noisy printer that doesn't hold much paper. I had a HP "C" series for several years and will be purchasing another, I'm afraid. Spend a bit more and you'll be happier.
THE EPSON STYLUS C62 PRINTER IS A GREAT EVERYDAY PRINTER. IT PRINTS EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD PHOTOS, AND HAS GREAT PRICED INK (ON EBAY). IT IS LOUD, BUT PRINTS FAST. YOU NEED TO KEEP IT ON HIGH QUALITY TO PRINT PICS CLEARLY OFF THE INTERNET. IT IS A LOT CHEAPER TO RUN, AND MAINTAIN THAN HP PRINTERS.
Pathetic excuse for a printer by jfreedom20 ,Aug 17 '06
Pros: decent print when it works Cons: goes through ink way too fast. problems with quality often
These freebie printers you get when you buy a computer are just a scam to get you to buy lots of expensive ink. I had some ink cartridges for just days before they were low levels. Often I would have problems with the quality of the print and I used the automatic cleaning agent within the printer and it would work, but the ink would be depleted. SCAM city.
Sure it prints nice, but it eats cartridges like a cow eats hay. I made a valiant effort to try and refill the ink only to find out that Epson has embedded a chip in their printer cartridges which makes it impossible to refill them. Sure, I am being a little cheap here, but the prices for cartridges is offensive these days (it cost MORE to buy new cartridges for my old Canon than it did to get a new printer!). The fact that Canon's ink monitor sacrifices cartridges well before they are empty and their little "no refill" deal is enough. Tomorrow, this printer dies and I will NEVER EVER EVER OWN ANOTHER EPSON PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE! Canon printers are great and I wish my S450 had never died.... I am going to score a new one tomorrow - Christmas Eve for anyone checking the date - so I can finish my gift shopping.
Oh yeah, it prints pretty well and isn't terribly slow. Unless you plan to buy a new printer when it runs out of ink, this is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
You must be on a budget :O( by dwyerkg ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: (_8(I) like Homer Cheaper than cheap Cons: Not high quality, but hey its cheap and works
Hey, it works great for my kids school projects. I however would not use it for a professional business. I call this a quality budget printer. I paid a total of 60 bucks on this budget *badboy* after rebates. The results?? I am getting my sixty bucks back, but the old saying "You get what you pay for" comes into play here. If you are looking for quality you wont get it hear or anywhere else for that matter for 60 big ones. Bottom line its a good printer for 60 bucks.
Disappointed with this printer by drybagel ,Jan 22 '04
Pros: Truthfully, I can't think of any. Cons: Ink consumption and cost. Frequent clogging of print heads resulting in vertical gaps in printouts.
For those who have warned us that the initial price of the printer is not nearly as important as its cost for ink, I wish I had listened to you!!! I have not had a good experience with this printer. Ink is very expensive and seems to run out quickly. I have had many problems with gaps in the printouts and vertical white lines. Cartridges need replacing very frequently and they seem to be more expensive than most others. I can't understand why others haven't expressed their disappointment and saved me the aggravation. I wish there was a tall building that I could toss this thing off of!
Do yourself a favour - don't buy this by amelius ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Cheap, fast, reasonable colour prints Cons: Very poor build quality, drinks toner, useless flashing lights makes fault finding near impossible.
A cheap and nasty printer that I am currently shoving into a large bin-bag. Drinks expensive toner, and wastes plenty of it doing unnecessary head cleaning. Print quality is fair, A4 feeding is tempramental. Very noisy.
