Pros: Multiple Paper paths, exceptional photo printing, thrifty use of inks Cons: Roll paper not all it's cracked up to be, text printing only fair
With the right settings and paper, this printer will produce prints that are IMPOSSIBLE to tell from actual photos, and in some cases look better than scans of 35mm prints.
I've printed on plain paper and the prints come out pretty good, but...
Pros: Great print quality. Versatile photo-paper roll feed. Direct-to-CD printing. Cons: Periodic ink splotches. Has problems with paper path. Ink cartridges special order only.
I run a small graphics design business and needed a really good printer for my job proposals. After a lot of research, I narrowed my search down to an Epson and a Canon. I spoke to a Canon and Epson representative at a local computer store on two ...
FYI: I bought this printer primarily for its CD/DVD printing function, as such, this review focuses on that aspect of this printer. Also, I use this printer with a Mac Dual 1.25 with OS X version 10.2.5. I do not know what the Windows experience is like...
Pros: Photo store quality prints, excellent color matching, fast Cons: Pricey
First of all, the Epson Stylus Photo 960 is, like it's name says, a photo printer. We don't use it for text and web site graphics. We have an HP LaserJet and a Stylus Color 800 for those applications.
Pros: Print quality is good. Cons: A little slow. CD Printing has REAL Problems
I purchased this printer a few weeks ago. I am pleased with the printer. But it can still use a few refinements to make it the perfect printer. I also own an HP top of the line printer and a Cannon photo printer as well. Hp used to be the only printer p ...
Pros: Good photo prints, when it works Cons: Smears black ink, misfeeds paper, printed envelopes not usable
I had second thoughts about buying the Epson Photo 960 after reading the review on this site by quincy011. However, I had also read many good things about the 960 and it's features seemed the best match for my needs. My experience with the printer has ...
Pros: Great printer when it works Cons: Support is almost non-existent
When this printer works it is great but this, unfortunately, is often not the case. About half the time, I receive a "this file did not print properly" error message and only half the print job is accomplished before the printer spews tons of blank paper...
A great printer but a bit of a hassle by bonnietritel ,Jan 22 '07
Pros: Excellent print quality, quiet, fast Cons: Replacement ink is very hard to get
I bought this printer for it's ability to print on card stock. I love Epson printers and this is no exception. It is fast, quiet and the print quality is excellent. AND it has a flatbed print slot so paper doesn't have to bend to be printed on. I can't say enough about how much I love this printer. I bought it refurbished through Epson because in researching printers this one did what I want.
But, because it is not a popular printer I am having a terrible time getting ink for it. I can't buy discount ink and the big office supply places don't carry it. I have to order ink directly from Epson.
I still love this printer and will use it until it turns to dust.
Pros: Looks nice, handles a lot of media types, prints well when it works. Cons: Has trouble recognizing the ink cartridges, the nozzles clog all the time an so on....
I work in the Pre Press industry and wanted a printer that would print high quality photos and use individual ink cartridges. When this printer works it is fine, but I have had so many problems with clogged nozzles and the ink cartridges not being recognized (usually the Magenta that using this printer is PURE AGGREVATION! I am almost to the point of sacrificing the $300 just to smash this thing up for my own personal satisfaction.
Right now I am trying to print out a simple letter to fax and cannot because the printer fails to recognize my Magenta cartridge and my black nozzle is completely clogged despite being nearly full. I cannot clean the nozzle because it wont recognize my Magenta cartridge and when it does it is too low also. So, you might ask, why don't you replace the cartridge? Because I have to special order them....nobody carries the damn things in a store.
This will be the LAST Epson product that I ever purchase and I will make every effort to dissuade anyone from buying one either.
Prints multiple pages HORRIBLY by kjep ,Mar 27 '04
Pros: prints on CD, print quality is good Cons: paper doesnt come out far enough after printing so it ruins all the remaining pages
It is definitely not for printing text. I purchased it mostly for the fact that it prints directly on CDs. That does a good job. However, sometimes I use it to print text. It prints it fine, but the paper loads from the top. After it prints it, it doesn't move the paper forward enough so EVERY TIME it goes to print a second or third...etc page, it continues printing on the bottom of the first page...line after line... so it's pretty much a dark line at the bottom of the first page. The only way it will work is if I stay with the printer and watch every paper come out and remove each page as it comes out. WHAT A HASSLE! And very time consuming!
Pros: High quality of printed photos. Cons: A bit pricey when I purchased.
I purchased my 960 last spring just as I started working with digital photography. To date I have used it only for photo work (I still use my Epson Stylus 800 for general printing).
In my experience it has done excellent quality work that, even in the lower print range, is difficult to impossible to tell from photo shop results. I have not used the roll paper at this time; however, plan to experiment with it soon (too be honest it appears more of a trick than a necessity). I have found that when using some paper it is necessary to open the paper setting to a slightly thicker value than I would have expected.
As to ink, I have found that the printer uses it sparingly and that it was readily available through mail order (at a better price) from Nerds.
I think epson is soon going to become (if it hasn't in other folks opinion) the premire inkjet printer for printing photos, be it pro or not. I don;t like not being able to pu tthe unit in HighSpeed mode, I am hoping that its just a driver problem and will be fixed on the next go 'round. Still faster than my 880 with it being on its 'HighSpeed' setting.
