Pros: Price, Clear crisp printing, quick faxing, handy extra features Cons: Slow to print, streaked scanning, feed-through scanner, noisy operation,
After having my trusty HP DeskJet 722 (of 6 years) finally crap out on me, I decided that I was inevitably going to have to shell out a little more dough for another printer. I hadn’t even looked at printers for at least a couple years, and didn’t ...
Pros: Excellent prints, easy to use, small footprint on desk, fast, great features. Cons: Somewhat expensive for most home users. Not the right printer for the novice.
My last fax machine was a Brother Intellifax 770, and was a decent machine, but I wanted something that could do a little more. I was also itching to replace/upgrade my HP 932 C, which is actually a great printer, especially given what I paid for it at t ...
Pros: Great features
Works for the first year warantee period Cons: Not reliable past the first year
HP doesn't care
HP products are disposable
This was my last HP product. I will never ever consider HP for anything. Their products are junk and don't last. With HP you only have 1 year and then you're screwed. HP is good but unless you can afford to just throw it away and buy another when ...
Pros: Functionality and price. Cons: Noisy & cost of ink cartridges. Non-repairable jam & trouble with the USB driver software
August 2004 Update: More bad news for the 5110....at same time I bought one of these for myself and my son...I also bought one for a local nonprofit. Just a week ago their machine also "died" of the same non-repairable jamming problem. The quality ...
HP 5110 All-in-one - Do not purchase this printer by michle ,Mar 01 '05
Pros: While it was working (for 13 months) it was a good printer/copier/fax and ok scanner Cons: Breaks down quickly after warranty, no service from HP
This is a poorly made printer, which has a long history of breaking down. Ours is 13 months old, and a gear has stripped, which is basically unrepairable (22 cent gear but $75 labor to open it, plus HP doesn't supply the part). Our business is now left without a fax machine until we replace this one, which is a peril of purchasing an all-in-one. When you search the problem on the internet our machine has, you quickly find multiple other people (I counted 25 on just one posting site) with the exact same problem, most happening between 13 and 18 months after purchase. When they contacted HP they were charged a $30 fee (if not still under the 12 month warranty period) only to find out they don't supply that part. They were offered a 15% discount off a refurbished machine, so basically you pay again to get the same poor quality product. All in all, I won't be purchasing an HP printer again until I know the quality of their products has improved.
Does not last long 18 months by montez526 ,Oct 20 '05

Good printer, short life by kylecronin ,Dec 30 '05
Pros: Does an excellent job, printing, scanning, faxing, etc Cons: Very short life-span
Haven't had the best warranty luck with this printer. On my second refurbished one from HP. As of about 30 minutes ago, I received the infamous "carriage jam " error that all HP office jets seem destined for. Printer is shot, will be looking for something other than a multifunction office jet...
Great Printer/FAX/Copier by williamh99 ,Sep 30 '03
Pros: easy installation,
fast FAXing,
easy scanning,
excellant prints,
great copies, Cons: I can't say that I've noticed anything.
The last inkjet type printer I owned was the Epson Stylus Photo 700. It was a good printer, but I needed something faster for color prints and I needed a fax machine.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how much the technology has advanced in the last couple of years. The HP 5110 turns out prints that are better than the older Epson Stylus Photo 700 when using the glossy photo paper.
The scan quality equals the HP6200C flatbed scanner that I also have.
The installation was easy and straight forward.
Paper handling has been great.
FAX speed is excellant. Seems comparable to the larger machines I've used at work.
Another review complained that the machine interrupted his phone calls trying to receive a FAX. I haven't experienced this problem. There is a setting to let the machine know whether or not the line is also used for voice, so this kind of problem can be avoided.
All in all, I've been extremely pleased with this purchase.
Definitely AVOID this one! by mazziemaz ,Dec 20 '04
Pros: Easy to use, 4 devices in one, good print quality, HP support is great Cons: Noisy, paper jams, ADF jams, clunky software, short life
I first bought my 5110 in the spring of 2003. It ran great for about 8 or 9 months, then in January of 2004 it kind of just died.
I called India (HP support) which is actually very good, and after an hour or so of trying fixes they ended up replacing it with a refurbished one under warranty. The replacement was shipped 2 day and I was very happy.
The replacement ran fine until December of 2004, when it started to break down again, this time it had strange mechanical issues and started making hideous sounds. It also refused to work about half the time. HP would not replace it this time because it was now well out of warranty.
Other issues that I had with both units I owned were...
- Very noisy
- Document feeder often took more than one sheet
- Warned of low ink way too early
- Bundled software was clunky and sometimes crashed
I gave up and bought another HP all-in-one because I have been an HP fan for a while and am hoping that the 5110 device was just a lemon product.
I highly recommend staying away from the 5110 all-in-one!!!
Design flaw and parts unavailable by poolhouse99 ,Dec 14 '04
Pros: Works great before it breaks. Cons: Breaks fairly consistently after 1st year of use.
This all-in-one unit seemed to be a good buy 14 months ago. Worked great with light use for 14 months. Printed great pictures and letters until it broke. Searching for the solution on-line, it appears there is a design flaw and all the 5110 printers break in the same manner. Rather than try and fix it myself, I spent $35 and had Radio Shack send it in for repairs. The call came a week later that the parts were not available and they could not repair it. Would I like to buy a refurbished model for about the same price as I spent on this model new ?
Obviously, I declined. $35 to tell me they cannot fix it is a bit steep.
Apparently, the manufacturer of this printer is thinking it is a throw away item when it breaks.
Pros: Looked Good and worked well, for 14 months Cons: Carriage Jam, cracking noise, stops working, no comeback to HP.
...well, not when it was working. But usual HP storey, a few months out of warranty and the "Carriage Jam" problem rears its head. Although 1000's of these issues have been experienced by people before the printer is 2 years old, HP Technical dept. claim to know nothing about it. And the offer of the same machine, not new but refurbished by HP, for about the same price that I bought my machine new, is not very appealing. Especially when I know the clock is ticking down every day until "Carriage Jam" day.
Pros: This product is a disaster Cons: This product is a disaster
This is the worst printer I have ever bought. Here are some of the problems I have encountered so far:
* "Director" software causes computer to crash
* Tries to receive a fax while I am in the middle of a phone call
* If try to use two of these printers, say one at home and one at the office, then have sever problems switching between the two
* Is very loud when it prints - will startle you
* Has miss-feeds when loading paper
* Drivers can't be cleanly uninstalled from registry
