Pros: Size; price; included hardware/software; expandable memory Cons: Included headphones

Pros: Remarkably small and light weight. Good battery life. Good enough sound quality. Cons: It would be nice if it could hold more tunes.

Looking for a great portable music solution for the gym or other active setting? So was I. First I looked into Mini-Disc players, but was put off by the size. I wanted something that would be completely out of the way when I was working out or jogging. ...
Pros: Small, good battery life, (reasonably) stylish, Card slot Cons: Port cover keeps flapping off, Can't remove card without stopping music, no backlight.
This is my first of hopefully many MP3 players. In Future Shop it looked small, stylish, and (the main reason I bought it) expandable. When I got it home, I used my pocket knife to open the annoying pressed plastic box it came in and plugged it in to ...
Pros: DURABLE. Tiny, lightweight. DURABLE. Easy to use. Shuffle option. Lock Option. Cons: Small music memory storage. Not enough features-can't choose playlist once downloaded onto player.

Pros: capacity (~3-6 hours!), reasonable price, expandability, ease of use Cons: difficult to use skiing/snowboarding, funky "headphones"
I bought my Lyra to listen to music primarily while snowboarding, but it seems like I'm playing with it all the time! I love the fact that I can jog or ride my mountain bike without any skipping and the thing is very, very light! I shopped around, ...
Pros: tiny, simple to use, upgradeable, great sound Cons: no belt clip, not waterproof
I wanted an MP3 player mostly for jogging for its size and non skip ability. I bought the Lyra because Circuit City didn't carry the Sonic Blue S35 and I was too lazy to hunt around. In the store I was impressed by its size, 128MB storage capacity and ...
Pros: lightweight, arm band, upgradeable, great sound, no skips Cons: headphones uncomfortable, no belt clip
This player is like a feather. I always leave it in my my pocket or jacket pocket. It has great sound and never skips. I got 23 songs on it (all mp3s and some were more than 128k) so I probably could have gotten up to 30 if they were 128k. It is a ...
Pros: Relatively cheap if you don't upgrade memory. Portable and stylus! Cons: Didn't work right out of the box. Customer service doesn't have a toll free number.
I know my situation probably is a rarity, I hope! But within a day the player had started acting up. The player simply turned itself off. I had checked the troubleshooting and it stated the only reason the power would go off is if the battery was low; ...
Pros: Expandable
Nice earphones
Can use as regular disk drive Cons: Stopped working properly pretty quickly
I got my RCA Lyra 1071 at Radio Shack and could hardly wait to get it home and out of the box. I sent my most favorite WMAs to it, which I'd already ripped with Windows Media Player. I sent them to the player really easily also using WMP. (I didn't even ...
Pros: Storage amount, abilitly to upgrade it Cons: Battery life, headphones
This product is a great product, but I found some of its flaws, but to find them I had to use a fine toothed comb. I got this on christmas eve 2004, It was a great product choice for a gift, judging that I had wanted one for the past year. It had a ...
Pros: Price, upgradeable, size, easy to use, mp3pro Cons: Poor design, battery life, shuts off some times when bumped, not backlit

Pros: Size, Head Phones Cons: Buttons jam up, Low quality screen, no back light

Pros: easy to use, small Cons: Battery life a joke, music plays in random order, no backlight

Pros: Size, weight, button features, good sound quality, Music Match Jukebox software Cons: Armband has no easy access to buttons, delay on display after pressing FF/R buttons.

I used the Epinions reviews in order to make my decision on a player and based on them i knew what to expect. The 1071 has great sound. If you are going to work out with it, I suggest you lose the headphones that come with it and get a set of ear buds, ...
I tried Sony's CD, and others..THIS is the BOMB! by larrydavis ,Nov 25 '03
Pros: Small, light, Drag & Drop file access Excellent sound. Cons: Short battery life, Very Limited ways to sort music
So light you don't know it's there. An armband that is fully adjustable. Headphones that don't kill your ears. Ability to use 128mb memory sticks in addition to the onboard 128mb. With the 128mb add-in, that's about 6 cd's worth of music if you use mp3pro. That's 6 cd's out of the way on your arm. Compare that to the bulk of Sony's portable mini-cd's. The very best aspect is that this usb device is DRAG & DROP! Just drag your mp3 from whatever drive it's on to the lyra which will show as 1 (or 2 if additional mem is used) removable drives. Need more music? Just get a second or even a 3rd chip, it will easily fit in the armband with the unit. As it is drag & drop you can use it as a removable hard drive to transport any type of file to any computer! Sound is crisp and I cannot imagine ever turning it up past 3/4, it gets loud!
Pros: durability!!!, portability, and expandability Cons: only 128mb, musicmatch, lack of wma support, eats batteries like pez
I got the Lyra a few years ago for my birthday. It was not as simple as plugging it into a computer and transferring, you had to install musicmatch and the plug-in. The software was relatively simple to install, though. I would rather have used Windows Media Player or Winamp to transfer the music, but I made due with musicmatch. Transferring music was a simple and moderately quick process. The lack of wma support bugged me, because I ripped all my cd's into wma. I also hated having to buy batteries on a weekly basis.
The lyra is a tank. Get it if you are clumsy like me. It has survived a few swimming sessions, being taken apart, and more bad drops than I can count. The only thing wrong with it now is a slight connection problem in the headphone jack that screws up the sound when it's in some positions. The music sounded great and it support variable bitrates. It also has great expandability.
Pros: SIZE, PRICE, JUMP DRIVE ABILITY Cons: FOR THE MONEY -- NONE 128mb flash may be small for some
This is a little gem of a flash player. Sound quality is fantastic. Junk original Headphones though. Sounds devine through a good set cans SENNHEISERs are my choice. Battery life is very good and it takes 1 AAA batery found everywhere, no need to run out of tunes. Forget the software. Just use as a drive and dump mp3s into it. You can also send other files to it as a "jump drive" usb style. People have problems with "legal" purchased music? Please, does your regular cd play encoded files?? Think people, you'll figure it out. Price point is great and easily expandable via sd card{s}. Had mine a year and ZERO problems.
Pros: I have no pros to this product. Cons: SUPPORT STINKS!
This player is a problem with Windows ME and 98. After I got it home I was very excited to get it up and working. The USB drivers are installed, but the Music Management program displays "0 devices installed". Try to get an answer from RCA? NO HELP! I now read that others have had the same problem. I can't find an answer. It's been a week and still no music. I don't understand these software companies. They want you to buy their product and then don't lend any intelligent support. All I get is, "It must be your OS."
small, light. cheap what more could you want by danieljwong ,Jan 27 '04
Pros: small, light, durable, carry case, expandable, cheap, can drag and drop, song title display Cons: no repeat 1 track function (can only repeat all)
usb cover seems a bit flimsy
im from australia and was looking for a cheap light mp3 player while i was travelling in the US. It was a toss up between this one and the rio sonic blue 128mb.
I ended up buying this one because it was $40 cheaper than the rio. ($89 from circuit city)
I have dropped it a few times and it still works perfectly, and you dont even need software to copy songs onto it. Also i have the 1071, not the 1070 model (which from reviews is apparently crap). and the 1071 model fixs alot of the problems that the 1070 model had.
Pros: good sound, bass, etc. Cons: flimsy battery cover
This MP3 player is not bad for it's size.. but if you don't have a memory card there is like NO intel memory.
Over all the sound is good, the digital writing is good but you have a flimsy battery cover.. as most of you probably noticed (or will) you will eventually have to tape or do something because the battery cover will break over all though this is good, you have good base, good everything
Pros: light, compact, easy to use, stylish, good sound. Cons: automatically shut off, wish the volume could go louder sometimes, no toll-free customer service #
My boyfriend and I both bought the same one for the gym, They were perfect. They have the little arm band case and they are compact. It's been about a year, we threw away our packaging, and receipts, added the songs and it was really easy, We loved them.
A few months back however, mine would turn off all by itself, rather frequently. For any reason or if I was working out, or if just bumped against something it would shut off. It's not even worth using now!
I didn't know if it was just mine or not, but he was saying now his does the exact same thing!!
Pros: Light weight, easy to use Cons: Shuts off for no reason
I have owned this unit for about 7 months. Now it stops playing a song for no reason and shuts off. After reading some of the other Epinions I found others with the same problem. One solution I read here was that a new battery will sometimes make it shut off due to too much juice (my problem exactly...a brand new battery). I will now try to use the battery somewhere else and then re-install in the Lyra...but what a pain! I was an idiot for buying it for too much money at Radio Shack. I am going with another brand if the used battery trick does not work.
Good player.....when it works by iwhitey ,Oct 19 '04
Pros: Good sound, small, easy to use. Cons: Quits working.
I bought my first player about 8 months ago. It lasted about 2 months and then just stopped turning on. It was working well until I replaced the battery, and then it wouldn't come on again. I returned it to the store thinking I must have gotten a bad one and exchanged it for another one. This one lasted about 6 months and then did the exact same thing.
The sound was good on them, but this kind of longevity is unacceptable. Another downside is that it won't let the user decide in what order the songs are arranged in the player.
great if you like random playlists by sanderdes ,Jan 05 '04
Pros: easy to load music/data to Cons: CAN'T LOAD PLAYLISTS, LOADS/PLAYS IN RANDOM ORDER
easy to use, love it except I can't get past the tracks not being in order. Programing playlist after downloads is a pain and it plays in random playlist otherwise. Firmware update is supposed to fix it so they play in order loaded, but doesn't.
I' ll still get 5-6 songs in alf. order, then another 5-6 starting with "a" again, very frustrating.
Otherwise a great player. Like that its a mini-drive. XP sees it a just another drive so just drag and drop, couldn't be easier...
It broke after 3 months. by coolman181 ,Sep 13 '04
Pros: price Cons: headphones, breaks easily
This mp3 player is awful. It broke after 3 months. The Battery life could be better. The sound quality is fine. I hated the headphones. I bought it because the price was low and I thought it would be good.It is hard to use. I will never buy a RCA mp3 player again.
Good MP3 Player, Horrible Life-Span by ilikepie33c ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: Compact, good space, easy transfer Cons: Horrible durability, no special features
I thought this was a great player, for a while. After about a month of use, it started to fall apart. The buttons stuck in causing me not to be able to play or skip tracks and the battery cover broke off. When i exchanged it for a new one, the volume broke causing me not to be able to increase the sound. Good player but NOT worth the money
Great player for the price by roswelljohn ,Apr 06 '04
Pros: Ease of use, sound quality, "batteries included." Cons: No backlight, earphones are a little awkward.
This is the first MP3 player I've ever purchased, I wanted something portable and virtually shockproof to play tunes while I rode my bike. I'm very pleased with my Lyra.
One big positive is the ease in which I got the music loaded onto the device. I'm pretty impatient when it comes to reading instructions, I like to get things, like electronics, set up and running ASAP. Even though I'm knowledgeable in downloading music, converting formats and burning to CDs I am by no means an expert. With the Lyra I was able to put in the software, move my MP3s and load them onto the device without opening the instructions. Since then I've only had to use them for deleting files and changing settings.
With 64MB I can load about 12-14 average length songs but I'm planning on getting a memory block as well for extended rides. The sounds quality is great and it works pretty much like a portable CD player.
If what you want is a basic, quality MP3 player that fits anywhere and is simple to set up and use then the Lyra is for you.
Pros: Good sound, easy to use, controls can be locked, drag and drop files Cons: Mp3pro does not work correctly, cause unit to shutdown when using new batteries
I have 2 Lyra 1071B units. For the most part I like the features and sound quality, but there is a known problem when using the mp3pro format. After installing a new battery, the unit will turn itself off as soon as the first song begins to play. If a slightly used battery is installed, less then 1.3V vs. 1.5V (fully charged, new batt) the player will work fine. If you upload mixed mode files, mp3 and mp3pro, the unit will power up and play the mp3 files, if they happen to be first in the play order, but will shut itself off when the mp3pro file starts to play. There is more info on this problem on the yahoo website. To date RCA has failed to acknowledge this problem. One of the reasons I purchased the player was it's mp3pro capability. Hopefully they can fix this with a firmware upgrade, but until they do, look for another brand.
Small, Simple, Easy to use. by teck430 ,Dec 03 '03
Pros: Small
Simple
Easy to use
Great battery life.(1-AAA)
Powerful headphones Cons: Waiting for the product to arrive.
RCA is A.O.K in my book, first class player.
What can I say... I love this little player. Purchased this little charm on the internet for $89.00 $.06 S H. More than worth it! Upon arrival and the first day of use just used Windows XP default drivers and worked flawlessly. Couple days later went to RCA.com and downloaded the latest firmware and updated it, plus I now use the actual drivers for the product. Transfer speeds were increased and now I get a format tool to clear my internal and external memory cards. Exactly what I said in the topic. Small, Simple, and very easy to use. I have no regrets for purchasing this product. I will mention that purchase it from a reputable dealer. In my case for $.06 S H from NJ to NC it took 10 days, Nov.19 - Dec 1, then again it was the Thanksgiving day holidays.
Great MP3 Player for Runners and owners who are tough on there stuff by mandyandmatt ,Jan 21 '04
Pros: Tough, Easy to use, Lots of memory Cons: Comes with weird headphone
I got this MP3 player to go running with because of a friends recommendation. It is a great little player I am tough on it as far as weather and dropping it and it works great still. It only uses one AAA battery which lasts a long time. A LOT longer than any CD player that is for sure! I use it with my eMac and it is very easy to put songs on and take off. It also has the ability to add more memory but 128MB seems just right for me. I have never wanted more memory. I can go running or be out for hours and not listen to the same song more then once most of the time.
Pros: Cost, ease of use Cons: Need to expand to have a large number of songs on.
Just picked this set up...great for a first timer, especially to use in light activities (i.e. exercise, lawn mowing, etc.). Unit is very compact and with an expansion card (64MB) I already had I am able to carry several hours worth of tunes on it. Quality of sound is great, and the system itself is easy to use (I use WMP, not the enclosed software). People have complained about the earphones but I haven't had a problem. Great deal for the price!
Ignored by Non-Existent Customer Service by specialk1975 ,Nov 04 '04
Pros: Love the player, long battery life if you ignore the indicator Cons: Customer service, uncomfortable headphones
Bought the player in April and it works great, but had limited storage space for my liking. I bought a memory card for the extra storage and the only way I can access the songs on the memory card is by plugging the player into a computer and unplugging it. When I try to start the player without using a computer, I can't access the songs on the memory card.
RCA's support site says I need to format the card with the provided software, which only contains an old version of Musicmatch. I have repeatedly contacted RCA's customer service via e-mail only to be told to call their non-800 number for assistance. I have also been directed to their customer support site to non-existent areas to download the necessary utilities to format this card. The icing on the cake was when I received a blank customer service email from them.
I love the product, but RCA's customer service stinks and gets 0 stars from me. This factor has prompted me to think twice before buying another one of their products, no matter how excellent it is.
Use it Everyday at the Gym! by okbound ,Oct 27 '04
Pros: Small, Lightweight. Battery Life. Cons: Headphones!!
This is a great MP3 player, with a great price. I use it everyday at the gym, including the treadmill. I forget it is even on my arm. Very light and small. The only problem is the headphones. I had to put my Sony headphones on my RCA. I also wore this MP3 for the entire Honolulu Marathon in 2003. The battery lasted the entire 7 hours and 15 minutes. (I didn't say I was fast!!)
Pros: compact, good price, easy to use, great display Cons: headphones aren't too secure on ears
This was received as a gift and has been great for my workouts. The armband is adjustable but earphones aren't the greatest. The display shows song name, artist and total play time. There is a lock switch to make sure buttons aren't accidentally hit while in use. Uses one AA battery. Mine currently holds 18 songs and can be expanded with a SD memory card.
Pros: sound, expandble memory, hold button, wristband Cons: feels flimsy(cheap),customer support, must play in order added to list,
ok after a weeks worth of review reading on the net i finally decided to buy this item...WOW it works great. this is my first MP3 player and it does averthing (just about) that i want it to do. If mp3 players get better than this, i dont wanna know.
one problem actually two problems that i have encountered are 1) the time display doesnt work. if the song is 3 minutes long the little counter on the display wont even move. it just stays at zero, so i dont know how long the song is or when it will end. that doesnt matter to much beacuse i already i have a mental idea, but still, i paid for something, it should work
2) when adding songs using windows meadia player it says that I only have 122.93 mb of memory. this is supposed to be a 128mb capacity player.
other than those two and no backlit...get this, only 89.99 at circuit city, though i rather buy from best buy, they dont sell it.
Pros: Easy to set up and load. Cons: Plays for at least 10 seconds and then shuts off.
Setup was fairly simple, except that Musicmatch program on disk is an older version. Seems to work very well except for a major problem......it suddenly turns itself off. The Lyra, brand new out of the box, will not play continuously. Any suggestions?
