small, light. cheap what more could you want
by danieljwong ,Jan 27 '04
Pros: small, light, durable, carry case, expandable, cheap, can drag and drop, song title display
Cons: no repeat 1 track function (can only repeat all) usb cover seems a bit flimsy
im from australia and was looking for a cheap light mp3 player while i was travelling in the US. It was a toss up between this one and the rio sonic blue 128mb.
I ended up buying this one because it was $40 cheaper than the rio. ($89 from circuit city)
I have dropped it a few times and it still works perfectly, and you dont even need software to copy songs onto it. Also i have the 1071, not the 1070 model (which from reviews is apparently crap). and the 1071 model fixs alot of the problems that the 1070 model had.

RCA Lyra MP3 Player
by ratbag33 ,Aug 13 '05
Pros: good sound, bass, etc.
Cons: flimsy battery cover
This MP3 player is not bad for it's size.. but if you don't have a memory card there is like NO intel memory.

Over all the sound is good, the digital writing is good but you have a flimsy battery cover.. as most of you probably noticed (or will) you will eventually have to tape or do something because the battery cover will break over all though this is good, you have good base, good everything

Having Problems!
by nurseree ,Sep 06 '05
Pros: light, compact, easy to use, stylish, good sound.
Cons: automatically shut off, wish the volume could go louder sometimes, no toll-free customer service #
My boyfriend and I both bought the same one for the gym, They were perfect. They have the little arm band case and they are compact. It's been about a year, we threw away our packaging, and receipts, added the songs and it was really easy, We loved them.
A few months back however, mine would turn off all by itself, rather frequently. For any reason or if I was working out, or if just bumped against something it would shut off. It's not even worth using now!
I didn't know if it was just mine or not, but he was saying now his does the exact same thing!!

Junk
by fil8 ,Jan 05 '06
Pros: Light weight, easy to use
Cons: Shuts off for no reason
I have owned this unit for about 7 months. Now it stops playing a song for no reason and shuts off. After reading some of the other Epinions I found others with the same problem. One solution I read here was that a new battery will sometimes make it shut off due to too much juice (my problem exactly...a brand new battery). I will now try to use the battery somewhere else and then re-install in the Lyra...but what a pain! I was an idiot for buying it for too much money at Radio Shack. I am going with another brand if the used battery trick does not work.

Good player.....when it works
by iwhitey ,Oct 19 '04
Pros: Good sound, small, easy to use.
Cons: Quits working.
I bought my first player about 8 months ago. It lasted about 2 months and then just stopped turning on. It was working well until I replaced the battery, and then it wouldn't come on again. I returned it to the store thinking I must have gotten a bad one and exchanged it for another one. This one lasted about 6 months and then did the exact same thing.

The sound was good on them, but this kind of longevity is unacceptable. Another downside is that it won't let the user decide in what order the songs are arranged in the player.

Junk. Stay away from this one.

great if you like random playlists
by sanderdes ,Jan 05 '04
Pros: easy to load music/data to
Cons: CAN'T LOAD PLAYLISTS, LOADS/PLAYS IN RANDOM ORDER
easy to use, love it except I can't get past the tracks not being in order. Programing playlist after downloads is a pain and it plays in random playlist otherwise. Firmware update is supposed to fix it so they play in order loaded, but doesn't.
I' ll still get 5-6 songs in alf. order, then another 5-6 starting with "a" again, very frustrating.

Otherwise a great player. Like that its a mini-drive. XP sees it a just another drive so just drag and drop, couldn't be easier...

It broke after 3 months.
by coolman181 ,Sep 13 '04
Pros: price
Cons: headphones, breaks easily
This mp3 player is awful. It broke after 3 months. The Battery life could be better. The sound quality is fine. I hated the headphones. I bought it because the price was low and I thought it would be good.It is hard to use. I will never buy a RCA mp3 player again.

Good MP3 Player, Horrible Life-Span
by ilikepie33c ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: Compact, good space, easy transfer
Cons: Horrible durability, no special features
I thought this was a great player, for a while. After about a month of use, it started to fall apart. The buttons stuck in causing me not to be able to play or skip tracks and the battery cover broke off. When i exchanged it for a new one, the volume broke causing me not to be able to increase the sound. Good player but NOT worth the money

Great player for the price
by roswelljohn ,Apr 06 '04
Pros: Ease of use, sound quality, "batteries included."
Cons: No backlight, earphones are a little awkward.
This is the first MP3 player I've ever purchased, I wanted something portable and virtually shockproof to play tunes while I rode my bike. I'm very pleased with my Lyra.

One big positive is the ease in which I got the music loaded onto the device. I'm pretty impatient when it comes to reading instructions, I like to get things, like electronics, set up and running ASAP. Even though I'm knowledgeable in downloading music, converting formats and burning to CDs I am by no means an expert. With the Lyra I was able to put in the software, move my MP3s and load them onto the device without opening the instructions. Since then I've only had to use them for deleting files and changing settings.

With 64MB I can load about 12-14 average length songs but I'm planning on getting a memory block as well for extended rides. The sounds quality is great and it works pretty much like a portable CD player.

If what you want is a basic, quality MP3 player that fits anywhere and is simple to set up and use then the Lyra is for you.

Known Problem with Lyra
by borchertda ,Dec 10 '03
Pros: Good sound, easy to use, controls can be locked, drag and drop files
Cons: Mp3pro does not work correctly, cause unit to shutdown when using new batteries
I have 2 Lyra 1071B units. For the most part I like the features and sound quality, but there is a known problem when using the mp3pro format. After installing a new battery, the unit will turn itself off as soon as the first song begins to play. If a slightly used battery is installed, less then 1.3V vs. 1.5V (fully charged, new batt) the player will work fine. If you upload mixed mode files, mp3 and mp3pro, the unit will power up and play the mp3 files, if they happen to be first in the play order, but will shut itself off when the mp3pro file starts to play. There is more info on this problem on the yahoo website. To date RCA has failed to acknowledge this problem. One of the reasons I purchased the player was it's mp3pro capability. Hopefully they can fix this with a firmware upgrade, but until they do, look for another brand.

Small, Simple, Easy to use.
by teck430 ,Dec 03 '03
Pros: Small Simple Easy to use Great battery life.(1-AAA) Powerful headphones
Cons: Waiting for the product to arrive. RCA is A.O.K in my book, first class player.
What can I say... I love this little player. Purchased this little charm on the internet for $89.00 $.06 S H. More than worth it! Upon arrival and the first day of use just used Windows XP default drivers and worked flawlessly. Couple days later went to RCA.com and downloaded the latest firmware and updated it, plus I now use the actual drivers for the product. Transfer speeds were increased and now I get a format tool to clear my internal and external memory cards. Exactly what I said in the topic. Small, Simple, and very easy to use. I have no regrets for purchasing this product. I will mention that purchase it from a reputable dealer. In my case for $.06 S H from NJ to NC it took 10 days, Nov.19 - Dec 1, then again it was the Thanksgiving day holidays.

Great MP3 Player for Runners and owners who are tough on there stuff
by mandyandmatt ,Jan 21 '04
Pros: Tough, Easy to use, Lots of memory
Cons: Comes with weird headphone
I got this MP3 player to go running with because of a friends recommendation. It is a great little player I am tough on it as far as weather and dropping it and it works great still. It only uses one AAA battery which lasts a long time. A LOT longer than any CD player that is for sure! I use it with my eMac and it is very easy to put songs on and take off. It also has the ability to add more memory but 128MB seems just right for me. I have never wanted more memory. I can go running or be out for hours and not listen to the same song more then once most of the time.

Great little set
by schro513 ,Jun 28 '04
Pros: Cost, ease of use
Cons: Need to expand to have a large number of songs on.
Just picked this set up...great for a first timer, especially to use in light activities (i.e. exercise, lawn mowing, etc.). Unit is very compact and with an expansion card (64MB) I already had I am able to carry several hours worth of tunes on it. Quality of sound is great, and the system itself is easy to use (I use WMP, not the enclosed software). People have complained about the earphones but I haven't had a problem. Great deal for the price!

Ignored by Non-Existent Customer Service
by specialk1975 ,Nov 04 '04
Pros: Love the player, long battery life if you ignore the indicator
Cons: Customer service, uncomfortable headphones
Bought the player in April and it works great, but had limited storage space for my liking. I bought a memory card for the extra storage and the only way I can access the songs on the memory card is by plugging the player into a computer and unplugging it. When I try to start the player without using a computer, I can't access the songs on the memory card.

RCA's support site says I need to format the card with the provided software, which only contains an old version of Musicmatch. I have repeatedly contacted RCA's customer service via e-mail only to be told to call their non-800 number for assistance. I have also been directed to their customer support site to non-existent areas to download the necessary utilities to format this card. The icing on the cake was when I received a blank customer service email from them.

I love the product, but RCA's customer service stinks and gets 0 stars from me. This factor has prompted me to think twice before buying another one of their products, no matter how excellent it is.
