Pros: Covers all the basic home-theater surround modes, great price.
Cons: Lightly-built, not the easiest to operate.

Summary: Excuse me while I wax nostalgic. Back in the turntable daze (intentionally sic), me and my pals all tried to outdo one another in stereo-buying competitions. For humble children of the lumpen bourgeoisie, the mathematics of ... read more

Pros: Great sound, lots of options/inputs, remembers settings
Cons: Gets hot sometimes, small volume drop-offs (see below)

Pros: Easy set up, great price for $$$, sound is superb
    Cons: Display, better directions, heat

Summary: Have recently upgraded to this new unit from a DD Philipps. What a difference!! Yes this has more power and DTS capabilities, but I know I'm running good when I can't hear my wife yelling at me from up stairs. Set up was quite easy (and I'm ... read more

  • Good value for the Price

    Jan 7, 2002 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Inexpensive, powerful, good DVD sound.
Cons: Poor remote control, limited jack set, lack of treble/base control in simulated surround mode.

Summary: It's pretty hard to beat this CR "best value" receiver for the price (1/3 the price of the competing Onkyo DS696) but be prepared to give up some important features. The DVD/SatelliteTV surround performance is excellent in both digital modes. ... read more

Pros: Value for $, ease of use, meets my needs
Cons: Displays small, hard to read from 15 ft

Summary: Crunch time, the 30 yr old receiver's tuner had been giving us problems, it also had no remote. Two trips to get it repaired over the last 10 years meant good money thrown after a bad receiver. The Nov.2001 issue of Consumer reports rated ... read more
