Still worthy in spite of new formats.

by paul88 , Jan 21 '04
Pros: 7-count'em-7 channels, clean sound, 39 DSP modes, solid, reliable and user friendly
Cons: Unlike some models(B&K) you cannot add new formats easily. Slightly dated now.
I purchased this unit from an audio salesperson, along with most of his system, several years ago. This 7-channel surround integrated(no tuner) has been left on and has been reliable to say the least. The rest of the system consists of Phase Tech ...

Rock solid -- An exceptional home theatre performer!

by led_zec , Dec 03 '00
Pros: Great sound and home theatre performance, great DSP modes, good display, great build quality
Cons: Marginal remote configuration
It is really difficult, with out A/B type tests in your listening area, to truly test the quality of an amplifier versus the competition. I base most of my comments regarding the Yamaha DSP-A1 from my comparative tests when I was shopping for an...

A1 now superseded but still brilliant

by sprint900 , Oct 29 '01
Pros: Superb for cinema AND music, now a bargain buy
Cons: Now out-dated, replaced by the AX1, also to be obsolete 2002.
Update March 2003

I now have a terrestrial digital television receiver, a Nokia Mediamaster, and this has an S/PDIF coaxial digital output. This D-TV system is used in the UK and some other European countries. The system outputs sound at 48kHz...

Quality all around

by d_wesley , Mar 17 '00
Pros: Incredible sound, many options, 11 a/v inputs, powerful
Cons: A little expensive
Being your typical guy I love high tech toys. I bought my DSP-A1 over a year ago for around $2200. Granted the price tag on this is a little high compared to say some of Sony's ES receivers, but I have no doubts about my money being well spent.

Yamaha's Flagship

by monterey697 , Apr 03 '00
Pros: Clean Sound, Plenty of power, Has everything!
Cons: Very complicated, not cheap
I originally had the Yamaha RXV2090 combined with their DDP-1 for Dolby Digital or AC-3. This was an excellent unit already but silly me I have to upgrade when I get bored. I ended up getting the DSP-A1. The DSP-A1 was made for the future it has every...
