Pros: Options galore, runs cool, crisp H/K sound, low profile, second sound zone remote Cons: Remote awkward when using multiple devices, optical cables pull too easily out of jacks
Went to local electronics store and was intending to purchase an Onkyo 800 series AVR. But I found out the hard way (return) that my entertainment center could not hold a receiver of over 7 inches in height. I was looking at the lower profile Onkyo 501 ...
Pros: Sound, Value, Cool Remote, New Modern look, No-Fan, Sounds Great, Easy Manual. Cons: Not for huge rooms (only 50w per), more than enough for my 15x25 LR.

Pros: Great crisp loaded sound - digital all the way. Cons: None yet - and hopefully none in the foreseeable future!
I recently owned a Harman Kardon AVR 525. When that flatlined I received my money back from CircuitCity and purchased a Sony 897. It boasted 110 watts per channel at RMS power (that's quite a boast, but it didn't deliver). But, I also bought an HK ...
Pros: Easy setup, options and inputs galore! EZ set remote. Cons: Remote though complete could be more user friendly.
I was looking for a mid to high end receiver at a bargain price. I purchased (and Returned) the usual supects (thank heaven for the 30 day return policies) such as the Onkyo TX-SR600, Pioneer Elite VSX-41, Marantz SR5300, Denon AVR1802 and Sony ...
Pros: Amazingly Clear and Punchy Movie Sound, Lots of Features, Easy Setup, Size and overall Value Cons: Music Sound Quality is a bit unnatural - clear but not warm, remote is terrible
The DPR-1001 is overall an excellent A/V receiver. While I ended up choosing another unit for my needs, I think the DPR-1001 is amazing value for the dollar. I tried a lot of receivers (Yamaha, HK, NAD, Denon, Sony) in the under $700us price range and ...
Pros: Digital, crisp sound, 7.1channels, multiroom Cons: setup can be confusing
Like most part-time audiophiles, my wants are always bigger than my budget. When I came across the DPR1001 I grabbed it with both hands and ran home. I have not been let down yet. I have owned this receiver for almost one year and continue to be pleased with its performance. Whether you are listening to the radio, movies, classical cd's, or better yet, super audio cd's- you will not be let down. The digital reproduction can not be beat for cleanliness of sound. Having whole house sound, the multi-room function of the DPR1001 performs flawlessly( although setup can be a little confusing at first). If you need more than the 80watts per channel, you might need a digital amp to bump up the power, but what is in the receiver seems to be plenty. No regrets about this one.
