I purchased my Rival 5060 Smart Pot 6-Quart Slow Cooker about 3 years ago for around $35. Looks The slow cooker has a white stoneware crock (where you actually put your food), surrounded by a white metal heating unit. The crock pulls out ...
When I was growing up in the 70s my mother had a Rival Crockpot. When I got married, my mother-in-law gave us a Rival Crockpot. After 20 years of faithful service, I decided that it was time to toss the old one (cord was getting brittle) and buy a new ...
Pros: Glass top is nice. Controls extremely easy to understand. Cons: Way too hot. Will ruin you food every time unless you watch it closely.
I have been the happy owner of a standard Rival crock pot for ten years and even though my old cooker is working fine, I thought it was time for an upgrade. Last Monday (October 10th) I bought the "new and improved" version of my crock pot, the ...

Pros: removeable crock, timer Cons: burns everything if left unattended
The only way you can use this crockpot is if you are home to check on it periodically. If you put food in it in the morning and go off to work, you will come home to a charred mess with only the "filling" edible, even though it is on the "keep warm" cycle.

Pros: Appearance Cons: Everything other than appearance
Steer clear of this pot! I saw it while registering for my wedding and thought it would look nice in our all white kitchen and thought the programming feature was great. I did receive it as a wedding shower gift and unfortunately will be tossing it. I agree with the other posters that it burns EVERYTHING. I have made several meals in here that were either burnt on the outside and still raw on the inside (on the low setting) or charred thoroughly (on the high setting). Not only does it burn food, but the lid rattles (from the liquid that is boiling inside) and the condensation "spits" out onto the counter. My mom has the same pot in a smaller size and has the exact same problems. She emailed Rival and told them that she followed the directions in the box for a roast recipe and it burnt. Their answer...those recipes are for the 3-4 quart size, not the larger size...then why include that book? I really regret this registry item!
Pros: Programmable Cons: Gets hot, too large for a single person.
I like this slow cooker. I've cooked three different meals in it, one pork, one chicken, & one roast beef, and each meal has turned out great! I love that I can program it to cook and when it's done it doesn't continue to cook but instead switches to warm setting. I think this is a good choice slow cooker for a couple who both work and want to come home to a nice hot meal.
The only drawbacks are it's too large for a single person and it does get hot on the outside.
Slow Cooker? More like Slow Burner. by wendyscharich ,Sep 26 '05
Pros: The attractive serving pot and the "warm" setting. It cooks thin soup well. Cons: The heat setting (too high) and surface which does not prevent foods from sticking.
I had used my old crock pot for 20 years but wanted one of the new crock pots with timers that switched to warm after the alloted cooking time. Unfortunately, the Smart Pot cooks everything too hot! I've never had so many burned meals, and these were all cooked on the low setting and the smallest amount of time you can program for low, 8 hours. The only thing that I can cook successfully without coming home to a burned sacrifice is thin soup, (not creamed).
Cleaning has been a problem because of all the burned food sticking to the pot. The pot coating is not very thick, and mine is stained and takes quite a bit of elbow grease to get the white pot to a light brown color.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed that I gave away my old crock pot! I am planning to buy another crock pot, and would like one with a timer, but certainly not another Smart Pot.
Pros: Good basic design Cons: Defective temp control
This product worked okay the first 2 or 3 times, but then did not regulate temperature correctly when set to low. It violently boiled on low. We never used high again and will be retiring it soon.
