Pros: Many Uses! Holds a lot! Cons: Unit gets extremely hot on the top, back, and sides
We have a small family and needed a toaster oven for the times when we only needed to heat a small amount of food. I wanted a toaster oven that could hold a personal pizza. I got this oven because it has two racks and also is big enough to hold a small ...

Pros: NONE Cons: Cooked too fast and hot. Timer wouldn't turn off and would continue cooking too long.
Today I put 4 pieces of toast in on one of the lightest toast settings. If you put anything on any higher/longer setting, the food BURNS UP!!! Also, even when you put it on the lighest setting just to get a regularaly and even ...

Stay Away From This Product!!
by hockeygirl1971 ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: NONE Cons: DEFECTIVE PRODUCT
I bought my oven in Jan. 05. I have had the same problem with turning the knob. I even had to get a pair of pliers to turn it!!! Now as another reviewer stated, the oven doesn't even heat up anymore. I'm going to send all of these reviews to Consumer Reports and maybe they can have Rival do a recall on the product. It's a defective product and we should all be reimbursed somehow.

great buy!
by largeforest ,Sep 12 '04
Pros: Can accommodate any frozen pizza! Cons: Takes up as much counter space as a small microwave.
After scoping out many brands and features I had to pick the Rival TO600. Why? It's simple...I have a teenage boy who loves frozen pizzas! This oven has a rounded out area in back to accommodate any frozen pizza, and it's large enough to bake a loaf of bread. The trays, crumb collector, and exterior all clean up super easy too. This is definitely one of the best purchases I ever made!

Temp Knob Freezes Up
by helensh ,Nov 10 '06
Pros: Huge cooking space and two racks plus room for large pizza! Cons: Temperature Knob freezes. Stainless exterior discolors.
I bought this wonderful toaster oven in May of 2005 and have been totally impressed with it...UNTIL a few months ago (aug-sept of 06) when the temp knob became impossible to turn to the toast setting after having baked something the night before.
I'm pretty sure the temp knob not turning is caused by accumulated grease spatters around the dial. I thought I'd take it apart and try cleaning that area, but now the bottom heating rods appear to be barely heating up. I use this oven at least once EVERY day and cook at least a portion of dinner in it each night.
It has been very easy to clean and I love the pull-out tray in the oven bottom, which wipes clean easily.
It is past warranty, so I have no recourse with Rival other than to switch manufacturers on my next toaster oven.

Rival Toaster Oven Temp Switch gone bad
by retiredat44 ,Dec 16 '07
Pros: Was very nice, nice design, seemed higher quality than other brands. Cons: Made as poorly as the cheaper brands, falls apart and goes bad after 1 year...
The Temperature Switch Knob takes extreme force to move and Oven is 1.5 years old... bad quality.. should have been recalled. Shame on all the makers of these Toaster Ovens for making such crappy products. You can bet that after the warranty goes it will fail miserably.
Have gone through several brands, I really thought Rival had eased my anger over having several bad products. I was wrong, as they have made bad products too. You maybe very happy as you leave the store, and even during the first year, but it will fail, under normal use family of 3, withing 3 years, if not sooner. More than 1.5 years if you are lucky.
I really liked the features, and the toaster oven worked really good, and was shocked that they got away with not recalling this junk. Who is not doing their job? We know quality control at Rival is not.

Oven temperature knob difficult to turn; tech support questionable
by austinconsumer ,Apr 06 '05
Pros: fast cooking, large capacity, 2 adjustable racks,
pull-out tray at bottom for easy cleaning Cons: manufacturing or design defect in knob, takes up a lot of counter space
We purchased our convection toaster oven about 2 months ago. With the exception of slow toasting (not unexpected given how far away the heating elements are from the bread), the unit functioned quite well. We made pizza, baked a quiche and cooked ribs in it over the first weeks of owning the toaster oven. The convection feature reduced the cooking time significantly without impacting the end result.
However, within a month or so of purchase, the top knob, which controls the temperature, became difficult to turn, eventually freezing up until the unit warmed up. This made it impossible to reset to the toast setting the morning after using the oven the previous day.
When I wrote a note to Rival tech support, the response was that the unit had to be warm to turn the knob! This is not the kind of response I'd expect from *any* company that wants me to buy from them again. (And certainly it says nothing of this in the manual!)
Suggestion: if you have *any* sign of the knob problem, exchange the unit for another or return it.

Temperature Control Frozen
by scoot52 ,May 07 '05
Pros: Appearance Cons: Functionality
I also had problems with the temperature control soon after purchase. The temperature control knob would only turn after the unit heated up and it finally froze completely (about 6 months old). I took it apart, removed the defective temperature control, and contacted Rival for a replacement. They offered to replace the entire oven if I shipped it to Texas and included a $10 money order for return shipping. They would not send me the $2 replacement part. Paying an additional $20 to ship their defective toaster oven to them and have a new (probably equally defective) toaster oven returned does not appear to be a good investment. I will stay away from Rival products

This product is not worth buying.
by concrnd ,Mar 06 '06
Pros: The price was reasonable.
Came with extra trays that others didn't have. Cons: Many.
I thought this was a good priced item, considering it came with all sorts of extra trays but it has turned out to be a real awful product. At first, it worked beautifully, then the nob that controls the degree of heat stopped working when the appliance was cold. It's only when it heats up that I can turn the nob. This is very annoying! Now it also doesn't heat up the bottom coils for toasting. This product also takes up a huge amount of space on the counter. Very unstable product - DO NOT BUY!

Stay away
by tmccracken ,Jan 17 '06
Pros: Good size Cons: Temperature control knob sticks, unusable.
I received this item as a gift. Generally, I like the design, particularly that you can fit rather large items in here (and I would use it all the time). The only problem was the temperature control knob. Like others here (and other reviewers elsewhere), I experienced difficulties turning the temperature knob unless the oven was warmed up first. It got to the point where it was literally impossible to budge using all my strength (and I'm a pretty strong guy) when cold. Once it warmed up, it moved freely. I finally got too frustrated and threw the whole thing out and got a different brand toaster oven. This item should be recalled, as this is a consistent manufacturers defect. I will not purchase another Rival product after this.

Defective top warming elements.
by rodsant ,Aug 28 '07
Pros: Price. Size. Functions. Cons: Can't withstand heavy Toaster usage.
After a year and a half without any problems, we noticed that the top/upper warming elements were not straight. One is bended upward and the other downward.
Last week, while in Toaster function we heard an electrical short and one of the warming elements was on fire.
We turned it off and we have never set the toaster function and are in the process of buying a new oven. Probably the Cuisinart TOB-175 (More expensive but it is highly rated.)

Rival T0600 1500 Watts Toaster Oven - BAD!
by lena0702 ,Sep 20 '06
Pros: not much Cons: temperature knob won't turn; oven won't light; used only a couple of times.
Shortly after I purchased this oven, the temperature knob would not turn without pliers. then later the heat would not come one. Rival Customer Service told me to send the whole unit back with a $10 check. Like a lot of you, I found this answer unsatisfactory. I emailed them again. They counter-offered saying I could cut the cord off and send that in still with a $10 check. That's all they could offer. No apologies for my inconvenience. I am still deciding whether to do this or try to fix the knob on my own. Has anyone sent their oven back this way? Has anyone tried to fix the knob themselves? PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN CONTRIBUTE TO A REPORT TO CONSUMERS REPORTS ON THIS OVEN! Thanks

Warped top heating elements
by al8shopper ,Jan 20 '08
Pros: interior capacity Cons: fire hazard
We use the TO600 daily for making toast and light baking tasks. Like another reviewer we noticed that the top heating elements are now warped. One is in contact with the top of the oven and is discolored - apparently from arcing with the top. Contacted Rival tech support to find out if replacement elements are available. Their curt reply, 'this product is not under recall.' It sounds like it should be. It clearly is dangerous.

Oven temperature knob needs to be recalled
by joyceandkevin ,Dec 24 '05
Pros: It was nice when it worked for the first month or so Cons: If you use it it will break
I have to agree with the others. Our oven knob within a month went bad. Pliers works and also letting it heat up first but you shouldn't have to do either in my opinion. The oven has quit working now I am searching for a new temperature switch.

not a toaster
by ljjones7 ,Aug 19 '06
Pros: not much Cons: takes too long to toast bread.
I went looking for a toaster oven that could toast and etc. Boy, this unit takes forever to toast bread. I just brought this home and tried it. Tooo, sloowww.I didn't find anything I really loved. I don't know how you could fit more than 3 slices of bread at one time inside. Needless to say, it's going back to the store today.
