Looking for a long game? Well this is it.
by baller_jai ,Jul 22 '05
Pros: Countless hours will feel like minutes Cons: Bad Graphics, Repetitiveness, Lag due to many units, Turns take to long.
I usually ask the store's salesman for a recommendation on games. He mentioned this game and i bought it. The prologue itself took me 2 hours to beat. The single player allows you to choose different types of armies and each one holds a different story. I played one of the three main armies, "House of Julii." That alone took countless hours which lead to days. The bad thing about "Rome" is the repetitiveness and the horrible graphics. I stopped playing the single player campaign, but I still play the single player skirmish battles. This allows you to just have a war of hundreds of soldiers and test your new strategies.

Something to occupy you for months on end
by sauron_himself ,Feb 10 '06
Pros: superb battles; can make units huge Cons: you may need to download a patch to fix some bugs
The problem with most games these days is that they're only addicting for a short while, and they take considerably short amounts of time to beat. Having been plagued with this dilemma, I came upon Rome: Total War via my roommate, and I was completely hooked the first time I played. The imperial campaign is so absorbing and complex that you crave more, ultimately aiming to conquer Rome and gain at least 50 regions. I found myself playing Rome for several hours each day, and every time I wanted to quit, I found myself stuck with a new obstacle which I felt compelled to solve.
The most thrilling aspect of Rome is the battles. As far as modern graphics rendering and physics are concerned, the battles are extremely realistic. If you really want to see what I mean, then zoom all the way to see the combatants' faces.
Aside from the imperial campaign, you will be ensnared even by the custom battle and multiplayer options, because that's where one truly develops the optimal strategies.
So, would I recommend this game to another? Yes is my answer, and you would be daft not to buy it.

I love this game
by DeceptionA ,Sep 19 '05
Pros: Tons of fun Cons: Very little
I've been playing Rome: Total War for a few months, and I still love it.
The customs battles are great for a quick fight. The campaign reminds me a lot of Civilaztion and Lords of the Realm.
The graphics are great too.
