Pros: The classic gameplay of the all-time classic game with updated graphics and more tactics... Cons: ... um... you got me, can't think of one.
Pirates! by Sid Meiers was one of the defining computer games of the 8 / 16-bit era and is still one of my favourite games of all time. As the years went by, other pirate sims came and went but none could match the deceptively simple yet ...
Pros: So many towns to sack, people to duel, and governors' daughters to seduce! Cons: Sometimes it gets really repetitive and sometimes things just don't make sense.
Ahoy, matey! Arrrghhh, shiver me timbers! Okay, I'm done with the pirate talk now and the rest of this review will be in sensible English. With the success of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and the popularity of pirates in general, it made a lot ...
Pros: Diverse gameplay, original concept Cons: No multiplayer on the PC, repetitive gameplay
Sid Meier’s Pirates! for the Windows PC is a light action role playing game set on the high seas. It features naval combat, sword dueling, strategic military combat, land exploration, and much more. It is a remake of the classic PC game from 1987, ...
Pros: Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum Cons: Walking the plank
So way back in '87, Sid Meier put out a game called Pirates! In that game, you could sail the Spanish Main, make deals with governors of various colonies while charming their daughters, buy and sell (and plunder) good and sugar and provisions and ...
Pros: Long-lasting game with a lot of different options Cons: Would be nice if voice-overs had real words and not mumbles
Ahoy, mates! Do ye think ye have what it takes to sail the high seas and become a swordfighting swashbuckler? Live the life of a pirate in Sid Meier’s Pirates!. Pirates! gives gamers so many choices that each game played can be ...
Pros: Great vibe, good music and story Cons: hate the restart forcing, no online play
There are not enough pirate games out there. The mystery and lure of the pirate's life has an allure that I find absolutely enthralling. To sail endless seas, the thrills of battle, the euphoric rush of gains or soul crushing crunch for a failure which ...
Pros: EVERYTHING!! Cons: OTHER THAN SOME MINOR CONTROL ISSUSES: NOTHING!!
forget what has been said about the game it is not as bad as many would have you beileve. The gaming genius Sid Meier has been making wonderful games for many years all you need to do is play any of the Civilization games to know what I mean. The new ...
Pros: Graphics are better than the original Pirates, barely. That is all. Cons: Terrible gameplay. Buggy as springtime in Alaska. Semi-steep learning curve - then boredom. Priced ridiculous.
I have been a huge fan of Sid Meier, playing his games for nearly 20 years. I played the original Pirates when it came out in 1987 for the Commodore 64. Sadly that ancient version is leaps and bounds ahead of this release! All of the gaming fun has ...
Pros: Good for kids. Fun land strategy battles. Cons: Not compatable with some Video Cards. Gets old after a few hours of game play.
Sid Meier's Pirates! Live the Life is addicting for about 3 days. You pretty much sail around in a small pirate sloop aligning yourself with a specific colony in the Caribbean and you loot enemy countries ships. The game box suggests fighting enemy ...
Pros: Nice graphics..Easy controls..some entertaining little games.. Cons: Bad musics..Boring game play..No action..
"Sid Meier" A big name for video games everyone knows it.But still i can not believe how he put his name to such a bad game. When i was young i played lots of pirates games. This kind of games has something that make people to play itself. But this game is ...
Ahoy, I've sailed here once before by webinator1961 ,May 24 '05
Pros: Pirate Game with omniscient and 1st person control.
Ship battles and control.
Cons: Your graphics power must be up to snuff.
Main quest loses it's allure.
What I like is the Pirate theme for starters. You can hear your sailors singing ol' sailors tunes while navigating the Carribean.
*This is the first game that I've encountered where you control the game on a large scale and when necessary 1 on 1 with your foes(I've often wished the Age Of Empires series would do that).
When in a 1st person battle my pc graphics power was a little slow, so that pretty much sucked the wind out of my sails. Argh, pardon me pun.
I enjoyed navigating the ship, acquiring ships and their loot, general pirating, and the naval battles. High marks.
The main quest is a bit much. I lost interest in that real quick. My lost family must hate me by now.
Pirates! Wait for it on the discount shelf by jchenn ,Dec 29 '04
Pros: Graphics are good in places. Cons: Boring, stupid, expensive, lame, crappy, a waste of time, a loser
Wow, what a disappointment. At nearly fifty bucks I guess I expected a lot more. I wouldn't have spent more than ten bucks on this turkey had I known what I was getting. The game is absurdly easy to play and the way in which you "win" is so meaningless that you are sure to be bored with the game in two or three days. This is not like Age of Empires or Warcraft where the various scenarios are fun and engaging. You just basically sail around doing the same things again, and again, and again, and again... The graphics are very good in places, but the action is meaningless. There are no fleet actions, no waypoints, no real advantages to picking up new items. You just sail around capturing ships and looking for buried treasure. Oh--you also go into port after port restocking your ship and listening to people say the same things you've heard them say a thousand times before. This is definitely something you'd want to buy on the $9.99 discount shelf.
Sid Meier's Pirates - Good but be warned! by sunshinesmile ,Jul 15 '05
Pros: If you've ever played this series, this is a good update of it. Cons: Make sure your video card will work with it.
I thought this game was fairly nice and simple. But there were two things I didn't like about it. It wouldn't work with my laptop that came with an Intel video graphics card, it would just crash and burn and I had no idea why. Found out it was because it didn't have the shading/lighting ability this game needed. After resolving that problem, the game worked fine. The other thing I didn't like was searching for "lost relatives" or "treasure". It was hard to located the X spot. Other than that, the traditional pirating was fun.
Excellent Game - Recommended by caprishaw ,Feb 17 '06
Pros: Superb graphics. Easy to play. Great adventure game. Cons: Dancing mini-game is extremely difficult. Can get repetitive.
A great update to an old game. The interface is easy to use. Graphics are superb. All the excellent role-playing and strategy elements of the original are retained. Unique items you can obtain are a nice touch. This is a well done game. The dancing part is extremely hard, but it is not a necessary element of winning the game. You can marry a girl on an easy level and then move to a higher level and not have to worry about the dancing mini-game. There are so many quests that they cannot all be done. You can feel free to choose what you want to pursue in your pirate life.
I would recommend the game for hours of fun. Occasionally, I still get it out and play a game.
IT's cool when you take a city but what is up with that doin it twice. I mean it is like beating a game twice. Why save your family and not attack ship and stuff. It's so easy beatin EVERYONE it's like sitting on the couch watchin the tele.ITS SO AWSOME DUDE!
