Image quality comparable to the best, great 3 year warranty, sharp colors

by heavyd1850 , Jan 05 '05
Pros: Good value, great image quality, excellent colors, 3 YEAR WARRANTY
Cons: Graininess near edges at higher resolutions, base is not as sturdy as other monitors
I bought this value-priced monitor in summer 2004 after my KDS 19 inch monitor failed. Unfortunately, the market is geared more towards LCD monitors so there was not much selection in the CRT market. I considered this monitor, a Dell flat CRT, and the ...

Who needs an LCD? This Samsung rocks.

by erick7302 , Aug 09 '05
Pros: Overall excellent image quality, great price, nice design, reliable name.
Cons: Blacks are a bit light, sharpness is reduced at the edges of the screen.
I replaced my KDS 19" CRT (which was horrible, for the record) with a 19" Hyundai L90D+ LCD, and was sorely disappointed. I returned it in frustration and went back to my KDS, but then I came across this Samsung 997DF. I had a 17" Samsung back in the ...

Big love for my little CRT

by heathcolwell , Aug 14 '06
Pros: Easy to use and great performance.
Cons: none?
First of all, let's talk about the CRT/LCD decision. My parents perspective, compared to my own, may help shed some light. They're old people, so they like big text. They do very little beyond a few emails, and some word processing, so refresh rate ...

Great monitor for the price until it died?

by mnd997df , Sep 30 '05
Pros: Great monitor for the price.
Cons: Terrible limited 3 year parts and labor warranty unless you are Samsung.
Four + months after buying I was very pleased with the performance of this monitor until it just died! No power, nothing and in the middle of a very important word document. Fortunately I had my old (dying) Compaq to fall back on. Contacted Samsung ...

More 'flat' than other 'flat' CRTs I looked at

by bfsdfl , Feb 17 '05
Pros: Very nearly flat. Crisp, bright, accurate display. Space-saving case and frame.
Cons: OSD menus cryptic... took some time to decipher. Some grain on edges. Setup CD quirks.
At this price range (under $200), you aren't going to find a 'Flat' CRT that's really Flat Flat. There's a black mask that frames the tube, but if you look around that mask, you'll see some curve to the actual tube (most noticeable when the monitor is in ...

Bought a Samsung 997DF from Circuit City.

by chaosblizzard , Dec 11 '04
Pros: Great Dot Pitch, High Picture Quality, Great Price to Performance Ratio, Excellent Warrantee
Cons: Monitor has rare but noticeable glitches. Monitor can't display a true black.
The monitor in general is well worth the amount spent for it. It only cost me $214.00. So far I would describe this as an above average 19" CRT monitor. It has a nice amount of features, all available from a control panel on the right side. You can ...

Samsung SyncMaster 997df
by scrid ,Aug 18 '04
Pros: Fine dot pitch, narrow screen border, skinny body.
Cons: Although the silver screen border is nice black would have been better.
Damn fine monitor for the money.
I won't bore you with the product specs like many do here because if your interested in this product you can get all those else were. I purchased this monitor as a replacement for my Viewsonic 21" that died after the 3 year warrenty was up.
I hated to go back to a 19" after having a 21 but cost was a concern. I paid 199.00 for this monitor and then saw it on sale for 20.00 less 2 weeks later so I had to exercise my 30 day price guarantee. This brought the price down to 179.00.
So far this monitor had been great. It's easy on the eyes, has a nice feature of having the control buttons on the side of the front panel which I feel helps keep people from messing with them as easily. The quartz silver monitor border is narrow and stylish looking like liquid crystal, but I would have liked the option to get it in black. I think the picture on this monitor is every bit as good as my Viewsonic was. I was hoping Samsung would make this monitor in a 21" as well.

Reliable and great for photos
by mx5 ,Jan 23 '07
Pros: Great natural colours. Flat screen. Always brings out the best in digital photos.
Cons: Very large and heavy. Actually has bent my desk top because of its weight.
Nearly 4 yrs old, this old but reliable technology has been great to display my Nikon D70 digital photos. Has a number of preset display e.g. games, photos, TV., I set it to my own liking . Very natural colouring.

Recommended by my Computer salesman who does not work in a big box store but in a smaller computer based retail store and has steered my in computer choice for over 10 years.

Gaming or Graphics?
by jondapicam ,Jan 31 '06
Pros: large, sharp, refresh rate
Cons: since it is a CRT style, it takes up space depth-wise.
This was the last component that I did not order when I had upgraded my computer. I was sticking with a 15" monitor at first. The sharpness and detail on this screen has definitely won me over, and the price wasn't bad at all.

For those of you who are dabbling in gaming or graphics, this is a great alternative to an LCD screen. The sharpness of this screen is incredible.

For gaming: You get the benefit of a larger monitor at a higher resolution, and a refresh rate you cannot get from an LCD.

For Graphics: Though most professionals prefer 20" or above, this is good enough for those who want to make their own works of art or web graphics.

Not everything you would expect, but still good
by kamikazi989 ,Sep 09 '05
Pros: Clear picture, High refresh rates, Good size, Appears flat
Cons: Preferred resolution of 1280x1024 doesn't fit screen like it should, Not really flat
First of all, the screen is not flat. Its merely a flat piece of glass put over the actual video tube that is curved slightly. Also, the preferred resolution of 1280x1024 doesn't fit your screen like it should. There are black edges on the bottom left and the screen isn't fit right. And there isn't a control to fix that sort of thing. But... those are just the downsides. Other than those, this screen is great. VERY clear picture, high refresh rates (good for the eyes), and it appears flat (less glare and looks better). Even after owning it for over half a year now, i'm still glad I bought it over any other monitor.

Best you can get for the price
by andrewzorn ,Jun 19 '05
Pros: Image quality, price.
Cons: Blacks, silver paint scheme.
After looking for a good 19" monitor for a while, I found this one for far less than I expected to spend. Great quality for its price, in fact, great quality in general.

Max resolution of 2048x1536, which is very spacious, but I prefer 1600x1200 since you can run it at 75hz+.
Motion is very smooth, image is easy on the eyes, and brightness can be as bright as you want.

Blacks are not perfect, a few very very minor geometry issues.

Excellent Monitor, Excellent Value
by flyswatter0 ,Jun 02 '06
Pros: Good size, maximum resolution, crisp
Cons: Kinda of large and awkward, but what monitor isn't?
This monitor is an absolute a steal. This monitor is great for any average user with the qualities of a top end monitor. It is one of the crisp clear CRTs I've seen in awhile.
