Pros: Accurate colors, reduced glare Cons: Bulb life problems, quality of internal parts, imitative design, cheap remote
Update Several salespeople have told me that the light source of DLP televisions burns out in about a year, so it wouldn't be smart to buy this. The problem with DLP DLP (Digital light processing) is a technology developed by Texas ...
Pros: Picture quality, light weight, price, DLP. Cons: Reliability, service can be hard to find, poor picture on poor cable systems.
I have had this TV for 2.5 years and here are my long-term impressions: Picture quality: excellent for the most part. One problem was with standard definition TV (SD) from the cable company. When I first got the TV I used Time Warner cable in New ...
Pros: Beautiful crisp picture. No convergence, burn-in. Small size. Cons: Poor remote. Average sound.
After I made the decision to go to an HDTV set, I spent a lot of time researching the alternatives. The DLP technology involved in this set is what enticed me to buy it. I've been very pleased so far. DLP is a projection system. Rather than use CRTs, ...
Pros: Size, weight, clarity, lack of burn in, no convergence issue.` Cons: Finicky with NTSC standard signals. Premium price. Unknown reliability.
I had decided to wait until the price of Plazma Tvs came down to make the plunge into HDTV. That was until I hapened by a display at Circuit City which inluded the DLP set. Up til this time I hadn't been aware of this technology butg I immediately saw ...
Pros: Big Screen, amazing color and sharpness, lots of input options ... just plain amazing. Cons: Setup maybe be required to eliminate green.
Okay I finally broke down and bought a new TV and I am not regretting it a bit. The TV I selected was the Samsung 50” DLP. After reading several reviews and seeing the TV in person I knew I had to have it. The picture is amazing, best in class to me ...
Pros: Excellent build quality, Samsung's relationship with Texas Instruments. Future readiness. Cons: Unsure of the life expectancy of the user replaceable bulb.
For years on end, Sony has dominated the market in video products from camcorders, to digital cameras, to TV sets. Well, Samsung is making a hostile effort to unseat Sony as the front runner in the TV market. Their engineering and manufacturing ...
Pros: Best of both plasma and projection without the burn in problems. Cons: Some pixelization in fast moving sections.
I went in looking at plasma, but they are still way too expensive. I have read so many negative reviews about the Gateway plasma that I passed on it. Plus the 50 inch Gateway is $6999. The Samsung DLP has a clean sharp picture. The store I purchased this ...
Pros: bright, no glare, vivid Cons: remote & no ability to relable the sources
I have had this for about a month. I calibrated it using the Sound & vision dvd (color, brightness etc). I have played PS2 games through the component input, my dvd is through 1 of the component inputs with monster cable. Let me start by saying that ...
Pros: Love the depth, weight and the Picture Cons: Too Expensive to have these type of quality issues!!!
I purchased my first one 18 months ago, after 45 days and less than a hundred hours of operation it died, the dealer couldn't get the parts and gave me a new one. I don't normally purchase extended warranties but after the first one died I purchased an extended warranty, I'm glad I did. After sixteen months the second one died. The warranty covered a total upgrade which included a ballast replacement an additional cooling fan and a new lamp from a 60 inch model. That was 3weeks ago now the TV looks like the New York Yankees uniform Lots of Pin Stripes!!!! about 30 or so nice white Vertical Lines across the TV as soon as it warms up!
Don't know what's next? Don't Buy one!!!!
Pros: Beautiful picture, when it works Cons: Picture goes black with no warning, awful customer support, cannot answer simple questions, rude.
The first Samsung DLP I purchased arrived from Sears and FAILED TO FUNCTION straight out of the box! Sears was great about it and replaced it (after a couple of weeks) with this model. The picture is great but the unit goes black after an hour or so of watching, sometimes re-starting it will do the trick sometimes not. Sears has been out twice to fix it and it still does it. Samsung's customer support is beyond terrible. Clearly this unit has issues, as did the unit before it. My advice STAY AWAY!
Pros: Great picture Cons: Worst color of any tv I've ever had.... unprofessional uncaring service from Samsung
After months of research I decided that for me the 507w was the best choice.....What a disappointment....Gorgeous profile.....Contrary to some user reports the sound is adaquate and the remote while lightweight operated well.....Picture was nothing short of stunning with the Samsung DVI DVD player..Returned the set because of overpowering green tint...that I couldn't adjust out .....blond hair was green.........Kobe Bryants hair was green.....penguins were black and green......the second 507w was worse...Samsungs authorized tech
(long story) didn't have the skills to make tint color adjustment (available only by a technician) accessing the internal factory settings......Samsungs response was pathetic and they abandoned me..I sent the second set back as well........A product is only as good as the service.....
Mine "died" after 18 months of service by bobjordan13 ,Apr 17 '04
Pros: Very good picture; accurate color; light weight. Cons: Terrible reliability. Flimsy remote.
I bought my Samsung HLM507W in November of '02 and until last week, considered it a good buy. It makes a beautiful picture and I like the fact the set weighs only 75 pounds. Last week, the set suddenly started making a high pitched noise, sort of like a metal saw cutting through metal. I thought it might be an internal fan...no big deal to replace. Turns out, it was the "light engine". That, plus a new lamp (as long as you have the thing opened up, why not replace the lamp?) cost me $2,215!!!!
The set, when new, cost $3,300. There is a happy ending to this tale, however. I put the set on my AMEX card at the time of purchase in order to take advantage of AMEX's benefit of doubling a manufacturer's warranty. Were it not for that fact, this Samsung would be in the trash.
A Sony 34-inch XBR HD set, purchased at the same time, produces a better picture, weighs a ton, and so far, has been trouble free.
Pros: Great color rich image Cons: Too many glitches
I just bought a 50" DLP and I am happy with it except for a few things. The first set i bought was a floor model. The second day it had problems turning on, so i returned it and got a new one. After getting a new set i noticed a the rich color and great picture with HDTV. But after watching it closely for a few days I noticed a audio-visual sync problem. the sound was delayed by a fraction of a second. I called Samsung and was told they new about the problem but havent come out with a fix for this problem. Good thing i bought the extened waranty from the store.I will wait to see if the problem persists if it does back it goes.
I love this television! Great color small but wide and amazing sound. I would advise you to buy this because it's worth the money and it will last you a while
