Pros: Bright, true blacks, wide-viewing angle, and excellent colors right out of the box. Cons: Price, I guess, but we're too busy watching HDTV to complain!
------------- 2/11/04: I initially added this review (in late Nov. '04) under the wrong TV model (HL-P4674W).
I deleted it a few days later when someone pointed out my ...
Pros: great color and clarity, perfect size, styling, great sound. Cons: pricey replacement bulb (recommended warranty!), has a fan to keep the TV from over-heating.
After having our old 32 inch Philips TV die we had to start seeking out a new TV. We had considered getting a 36" Sony WEGA flat with HDTV, but it would have cost about $1800.00. And it weighed around 250 pounds which is too heavy for 1 person to lift ...
Pros: Great picture quality
Thin body design Cons: Sound quality just OK
Purchased - 1/05 Overall, I have been very happy with Sammy HDTV. I did a lot of research (probably too much) and came to the conclusion that I wanted to purchase a DLP set. For all the people who have experienced problems with this product, I would ...
Pros: Cheap compared to Plasma, no burn in or Pixel Migration. longer life. Big and Bright. Cons: Bulbs last about two years, cost $200 Now, probably cheaper in two years.
I researched hundreds of 16X9 TV's including Plasma, TFT and Rear Projection. I never cared for the bulk of old rear projectors or the narrow field of view until the newest DLP technology emerged. This TV is only 13.8" deep! It takes so little space ...
Pros: Beautiful quality Cons: the depth it a little large because its a rear projection
I bought this TV for my husband as a Christmas gift, but I find myself on it just as much as him. This TV comes with several different options that affect the picture. You can choose to make it a full screen picture, wide screen, and a couple different ...
Pros: Visually stunning with all the new connections available at your fingertips Cons: The sound is sub-par and the remote is bland
I looked over TVs from LCD to plasma to CRT to projection. In the end this projection DLP set from Samsung won out. This set weighs about 70lbs. and can easily be moved by two people. If you are looking for 10s across the board on this set you will be ...
Pros: Excellent picture for the price! Cons: Blacks could be darker.
It would've been nice if it was still working!
Personally, I loved the look of this set. Everything about it was absolutely beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was that when I was watching it at night time, on a dark scene the blacks would show as a gray. Side by side, my standard tube TV does a ...
Pros: Great picture for as long as the TV is working properly Cons: Built in time bomb problems with the color wheel and lousy customer service
I have the infamous "humming noise" which so many people point to as a color wheel problem. Of course it began 4 months after the warranty expired. The tech from Samsung played dumb as to ever hearing about such a problem and said I "should have bought the extended warranty" (don't you love companies that want you to insure the products that they make?). Anyway he could not provide any authorized repair reps in my area, so advised that I "should look up someone who works on DLP TVs".
No Picture has sound and humming noise by awalther ,Mar 10 '05
Pros: excellent picture. Cons: extended warranty maybe necessary considering the cost of your investment.
9/2004. We purchased this set and it had a humming sound. After 5 month I called and complain. They replaced the color wheel. Humming sound was gone. The Tech said that they had sub-contracted the color wheel manufacturing and are now changing manufacturer. Two weeks later, no picture but had sound and would turn it self off and on. The repair tech over the phone said it was the ballast for the lamp and that he will need to be replace the ballast. 3/2005
The repairman came and replaced the Ballast the following week. It was a plug-in device that could be changed by a owner. Very simple process. The set is now working.
I have to say this TV has the best picture I have ever seen anywhere. Except for the problems we encountered, I would recommend this TV for best picture display.
This set comes with a one year, parts & labor on-site warranty from the manufacturer, which as you know, if anything is going to go wrong it will happen in the first year with electronic devices. Most other set have 90-days, so this is an excellent warranty.
Best TV I have owned to date by bobbyk223 ,Aug 27 '07
Pros: Picture Quality Cons: Sound if you use the built in speakers.
Both non HD and HD programming looks stunning. I compared this unit in the store to Plasmas and LCD's and I also compared this TV to other brands like Sony and this TV absoloutly is awesome. I have it connected to my surround sound Infinity speaker system and my Harmon Kardon receiver which I think most people who purchase a TV like this would not use the TV's built-in speaker system. DVD's play crystal clear as well, as a matter of fact non-HD DVD's look flawless. The set-up was very simple and the ease of use is fantastic! Could it be better? I guess but it certainly is not difficult. I do plan on purchasing another Samsung DLP HDTV in the future. Samsung TV's are miles ahead of the competition in my opinion.
Pros: Great picture Cons: This TV should have lasted more than 2yrs
At 55 years old and having only two tube TV both magnavox one for 18 years and the other still working .I purchased a Samsungs model HL-P4663W in March of 2005 very pleased with the picture, sound is excellent, great TV I thought all my research has paid off until about two months ago, it started to change it's tint to to dark red all by it's self,it would stay like that all day until you turn it off over night and the next day it's back to normal. In called customer support the fist thing they tell you is you should have bought your extended warranty, Thanks after doing more research now and finding out you ether have a good one or its like an old Rambler ether its starts every day or it never starts . 50% off the owners love their TV Do you want to spend that kind of money to find out which 50% you would be. Once Burned
Pros: Picture good while it lasted Cons: Dismal Quality
After owning this for about 15 months the loud humming noise started. I did not buy an extended warranty. My previous t.v. was over 15 years old and still running great. I would expect that paying almost 10 times more for a new one would buy me at least several years of a working t.v. Also, when another appliance in the house is turned on in the house, the picture doubles. Run from Samsung!
After my first Samsung DLP arrived DOA (no power, no picture) it was promptly replaced with this model by the excellent customer service at Sears. The picture was excellent; clear, crisp, brilliant color, then... everything goes black. It would take the set a few minutes to cool down before it would properly re-start, and after a few more minutes, the picture would go black again. Five service calls later the problem was "solved" by installing a new DLP chip, which could never be accuratly to the screen resulting in a crooked out of alignment picture. Samsung's customer support is AWFUL! No help there. Good thing I purchased an extended warranty, replaced it with a JVC. Samsung, why can't you make this thing work right off the assembly line? Two words: STAY AWAY!
Returning TV for second time by customer0121 ,Jan 21 '05
Pros: Picture looked great when it worked! Cons: Tired of packing and unpacking TV
Liked the size, price, weight and picture quality of new Samsung HLP4663W HDTV. We purchased it for $2600. After one week, we would get sound with no picture and then TV would turn itself off.
We returned to store. They gave us another one. After one day of use we got sound with no picture and TV would turn itself off!
We were told that some of these TV's were having trouble and after they replaced a board, they were fine.
We are packing up the TV and returning it again. I guess we will be looking at a different brand.
Best electronics purchase I have ever made by timho1980 ,Oct 08 '05
Pros: fantastic picture, easy to use interface Cons: sound could be better
TV worked out of the box without a problem. Pretty easy to set up. I also purchased a LG HDTV tuner which works great with the TV. If you follow instructions for setup, TV and tuner works without any problems. With the LG tuner, I am able to pick up HDTV signals for ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox over a standard cable connection. The picture is just unbelievable. Watching baseball, football, DVDs, and any show in HD on this TV is AWESOME!
I have had this TV for a month now, no complaints. I paid less than $1600 for the TV from buy.com. (No tax and free shipping) No regrets so far!
