Pros: Great toner life, no more dried-up or clogged ink cartridges. Cons: Toner cartridges cannot be found locally, they must be ordered online.
This has been the best printed I've ever had. For years, I fought a losing battle with the !#$%^ inkjet printers. I print mostly documents, but with the occasional photo thrown in. So I'd use the black ink cartridges, open a photo color cartridge, make a ...
Pros: Least expensive printer for making quality checks, prints 17 pages/minute, fast start-up time. Cons: White casing doesn't match all my other silver and gray computer equipment.
As the publisher of software that makes checks, bank drafts and deposit slips, I am forced to test many printers on a regular basis to see how they handle thicker (24 lb.) check paper and if they can be used with MICR magnetic toner. I tested the ...
Pros: Cheap Printer, FAST, Feeder Trey, Cheap, Good Page Yield, Cheap, Wonderfull Text printer, CHEAP did I mention that already? Cons: Manual Feed can be a pain, Printer Settings Box isnt the greatest, And sometimes Jams when you do double sided ...
I finally got around to buying a laser printer last January, about a year after my last inkjet finally died on me. I got the usual sale and rebate, so I paid $99 for the printer. It was easy to set up, although the paper tray is a little fiddly to load ...
Pros: Cheap, fast, decent capacity tray, better for graphics than some believe. Cons: Starter cartridge doesn't last the advertised 1000 pages; noisy; absolutely murders envelopes.
I've had this printer for about four months. It would warrant no more than 3 stars if not for the fact that, after the frequently-offered rebate, it can be had for $99. In laser terms, a $99 printer probably should be absolute garbage. The 1740 is much ...
There are lots of good reviews already written, so I'll just add my experiences. I've had this printer for about 8 months now, and it only prints an average of 10 pages a day for school or work. Compared to the slow,ink-hogging,noisy Epson inkjet it ...
I chose a laser printer over an ink jet printer because of the overall costs of the printer and its operation. I have owned an inkjet printer in the past only to find that I seldom printed anything in color. When I didn't use it for a while, the ink ...
Pros: Performance for the money Cons: Noisy, manual feed not the greatest
After a good hour or two spent on-line researching low end laser printers, I opted for the Samsung ML 1740. On the same day that I purchased it, I opted to take it back. It's not a bad printer, but it has one big flaw that didn't fit my needs. The ...
Pros: Clean, sharp print. Cons: NO heavy paper, power glutton (made my lights dim when running), first page slow
This printer does NOT handle card stock at ALL. And you can't find that information ANYWHERE except on the CD included with the printer. My fiancee and I bought this printer with the intent of printing our own wedding invitations. If you're thinking ...
Pros: None Cons: Warranty support is at best lackadaisical, apparently indifferent, incompetent or both.
OK, maybe I got the one lemon Samsung has ever built. But a freight car full of superior Samsung printers is of no relevance to me; what is, is the one that developed a loud grinding noise only two weeks after purchase, during which it was barely used, ...
Pros: Very good text print quality, low power consumption, toner saver option. Cons: Subpar graphics printing.
A lot of printing is done in my household and this printer is fast and cheap. Print quality is adequate for text, but don't expect much when printing graphics. Low power consumption when in standby mode and toner saver mode are big pluses for me. A tough printer to beat in it's price range.
The Samsung ML 1740 is a great deal by valeriet ,Jan 29 '05
Pros: A great printer for the price. Cons: Uses a good bit of energy.
I purchased my Samsung ML-1740 from Bestbuy, where I received a $50 rebate. So I only spent $100 for a black-and-white laser printer, and I'm very satisfied. I am a Ph.D. student writing my dissertation, so I use lots of paper and rarely need color ink. This was a practical purchase and I believe the laser cartridge will last much longer than the ink cartridges I had to buy with my HP deskjet.
One drawback is that the printer seems to use a lot of energy compared to my other electronic devices, so when it's printing, warming up or cooling down, my desk lamp light flickers a bit! But this goes away completely as soon as the Samsung is finished printing a document.
I also find that the "Toner Save" button saves quite a bit of ink and is perfect for drafts of writing.
Hint: buy "remanufactured" laser ink cartridges (available on many internet sites) to save about 1/3 off the price
of new cartridges. They're supposed to be just as good quality, and better for the environment.
I've had the printer for about three months with no problems (occasionally my computer doesn't recognize it, so I turn the printer on and off and everything is fine). It is quiet, quick and small and the best priced printer (when I got it).
Pros: Cheap to use, easy toner refill process, Cons: No color printing.
This is the best printer I have ever used. It is quick, cheap, and simple to operate. As a writer I often print hundreds of pages at a time. This cheap little Samsung has made that much easier than the old inkjets I used to have. I bought a couple toner refill kits on ebay for less than $30 and have yet to buy more. I was initially skeptical about how effective a toner refill kit would be, but so far (a year now) it has worked out perfectly. Beats any inkjet printer out there for printing text. Believe the manufacturer when they say you do not want to print anything other than text with it. I tried to print a screenshot of Google Earth with it once and got a horrible result, but that's not what you buy this printer for. I will never go back to inkjet for document printing again, and next time around I plan on buying a Samsung again.
Pros: Excellent print quality, Ez and cheap to replace toner, fast and relatively quiet. Cons: 8 meg memory, Didnt come with cable.
This lil printer is just amazing. It prints better than the Hewlett Packard printer at work that costs 10 times what i paid for the Samsung 1740. If you dont need color prints, you'll be very happy with this printer.
