Pros: Low price, lots of features. Cons: Somewhat 'cheap' accessories, suspect life expectancy.
I bought this unit at Walmart, frankly, on a whim. We had been looking for an inexpensive DVD player for our small bedroom television. I decided, like another viewer, that the 'name brand' Sanyo was a little better than some of the unknown Walmart ...
Pros: Great slim look Cons: freezes up, I keep losing the remote (my fault)
I didn't want to get the cheapest player at Wal-Mart-I was replacing a cheap one that had only lasted a year. I thought the Sanyo looked great and had a well known name so I thought I couldn't lose. It was easy enough to hook up, no problems there. It ...
Pros: Cheap and Durable. Easy to use. Cons: Not high quality.
After receiving so many DVDs as Christmas and Birthday gifts, we finally broke down and bought a DVD player. We did not want to spend a lot of money. So, we went with the Sanyo DVD player for only $40.00 on sale. It was very easy to hookup directly to ...
Pros: Able to play non retail DVD's, thin design. Cons: 9 months, it dies. It's a Sanyo!
Ah, Walmart. Suppliers of any brand that's lower price, and of course, quality then it's competitors. You didn't hear that from me.So I bought this because I needed a second DVD player. It played. And it also played copied DVD's and self made ...
Pros: TVGuardian. That's it. Cons: No durability. At all. Bad customer service.
We have 2 Sanyo DVD players w/TVG, this one and a newer one, and a Sanyo VCR w/TVG as well. I love the TVGuardian feature, which mutes out cusswords, and other offensive language depending upon settings that you set. There are different severity levels ...
Cheap with Decent Picture and Sound, No Durability by metalmusickat ,Jan 30 '05
Pros: Cheap, Decent Picture & Sound Quality, Easy to Hook Up and Use. Cons: Picture & Sound Good, but Not Great, Durability Really Stinks.
This unit provided a reasonably good picture and sound quality for a cheap price ($59.00 at Wal-Mart at time of purchase). Hookup was easy, and the remote is fairly straightforward, although it has it's frustrating little quirks. However, this unit is just under a year old, and it's already failed. Despite light to moderate use, the tracking control became progressively bad over the last two weeks that I used it, and now it won't play anything (including discs that played fine in the past)without the picture freezing repeatedly. (Imagine having a maniac take control of your remote and repeatedly hit the "freeze frame" button, and you'll get the idea.) Neither re-setting it nor cleaning it helped, and it's now bound for recycling, as it isn't worth fixing. If you want a cheap player with a decent picture/sound and you don't mind buying a new one each year, then this model should suit you.
You get what you pay for. by maineskueez ,Mar 08 '07
Pros: Cheap Cons: Cheap
We were in need of a DVD player at a time when money was tight so we chose low end hoping it would at least be serviceable. I have to honestly say that for what we paid for it, the device isnt worth it. We got less than 2 months use out of it before it started freezing up and refusing to recognize discs. I dont know whether its always the players fault or bad rental DVDs but sometimes it works okay for a while, other times it just plain doesnt work. Sometimes we watch one movie fine and the second one either wont play or keeps freezing. The next day, it plays fine. Weve cleaned this machine after every few hours of play and still it doesnt work right. I put in an old scratched up DVD and it played fine yet a brand new DVD out of the box wont. Makes no sense to me.
Sometimes Pauses or Won't Read DVDs by vagabond_song ,Jun 29 '05
Pros: Inexpensive, looks good, TV Guardian Cons: Sometimes Pauses or won't read DVD at all
I really liked this DVD player, especially since it has TV Guardian, which costs 60.00 by itself, but sometimes mine pauses repeatedly while watching a DVD or sometimes it just stops altogether and won't read the DVD. It's great when it's working.
The Sanyo DWM400 was a replacement for my DWM390 that had ceased functioning. I paid $55 for it at Wal-Mart in the Spring of 2004. It was actually $20 cheaper than the 390 bought a year prior, but these things get cheaper with each passing year. Can you remember when a "cheap" DVD player three years ago went for about $200?
Although I had problems with a previous Sanyo unit, I still opted to buy another because it was half the price of a similarly-equipped Sony, Panasonic, or Philips. Although Wal-Mart sells "el cheapo" brands for around $30 (APEX, Durabrand, Norcent), their dismal repair history warrants my snubbing them.
Okay, overall this is a decent unit. Hopefully, Sanyo got the quality under control for this one. It has the typical DVD quality picture and sound, but certainly wouldn't go up against the likes of a $1,000 Denon unit. On the other hand, for half the price it runs the gauntlet quite well against its other competitors. There's little else to be said for a $55 DVD player.
This unit worked great for about 20 DVDs. Then it stopped playing them at all. I took it apart and found that the motor that spins the disk wasn't functioning well. It would spin intermittently and stop. Either the motor is faulty or there is an electrical connection to the motor that is faulty causing the power to the motor to fluctuate.
The drive is modular: Two screws and three cables that connect to a board so if you can find a replacement drive -CHEAP, then it's easy to fix.
i bought my Sanyo DWM-400 for 59.99 at wal mart
and loved it. im a single parent with a decent apartment
and not a whole bunch of money, so it seemed good for her to watch her movies on. however, if i'd know it would break in 6 months and not read any video discs, i would
have bought a more expensive brand. i even cleaned the lens
to no avail. but it will still play audio disc. anyone
have any suggestions on how to fix? aside from buying
another one?
Pros: Great picture while it lasted, on progressive output. Cons: Next time i buy a dvd player, I will get a high definition one.
My wife and I got this from her stepfather for a wedding present, 10/18/04. Stopped working 7/21/05. Spoke to a csr on the 800 # supplied on the sticker on top of mine, and they said, receipt or no, just bring it to wal-mart, and it will be exchanged, or mailed off to fix it. That was 5 minutes ago, so I don't know if it worked out yet.
