Pros: Crisp picture, anti-glare screen, detachable speakers. Cons: No built in HD tuner.
Getting to the point where I was able to convince my wife we needed a new TV was the most difficult part of this purchase. It's taken me 4 years. So when I finally found a TV that received my wife's blessing I think it goes without saying I was very ...
Pros: HDTV picture is great. Stylish Looks. Cons: Analog picture is just OK.
I have been searching for a flat panel tv for a long time. With all the hype about plasmas I had been hearing I checked into those first. Although some say burn-in is remote I figured they were right. But one afternoon I went to circuit city and saw a ...
Pros: Flat screen LCD for under $4000. Enough said. Cons: Out of box color needs tweaking, defects, poor analog display, fast motion pixelation.
I also had defect problems with not one, but TWO LC-37G4U's. The first arrived with the screen showing nothing but up and down lines where any image should be. It was obvious to the repair man they sent out that it was a bad monitor, but Sharp ...
Pros: Bright, intense viewing from any angle. Cons: Zoom Functions Somewhat Limited and No Picture in Picture
I bought from a local computer shop for under 4000 bucks, so the price was comparable to internet stores. The picture is just amazing, and with the Built-In HD Tuner (yes, there is a Built-in Digital Tuner with this one, not the G4U), you can watch ...
Pros: nice picture when it works Cons: breaks within 10 days
Seriously, I just did a search for power light and opc and saw the previous review. I've had my Sharp LCD Aquos for about the same time, now the power light and opc light just blink. The darn thing won't even power off! (enough to make the lights go out)
I'm not even sure I'll call Sharp after that other review. Just a waste of time.
Pros: Picture was good - from what I remember Cons: TV broke within 4 hours and no clue when/if I will get it back
Sharp LC-37D40U
Brand new TV ... watched it for 4 hours and it died on me. It will not power up. The power light and OPC light blink alternately. 10 days later I still have no TV very little assistance from Sharp in getting TV even looked at from their recommended authorized service center. From what I remember of my TV the picture was nice. Unfortunately, the only thing I see now are wires hanging out of my wall where my TV once was.
I have spent equal time on the phone (mostly on hold) as I have watching my television. I will never buy Sharp again!
LC37G4U Sharp with Harmony Remote by kbcriolobo ,Dec 09 '04
Pros: Great picture, size is perfect for entertainment center Cons: Analog picture quality, suspect quality, suspect customer support
Great picture out of the box. Selected this model to fit in my existing entertainment cabinet. The speakers are removable, so it fits perfectly. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha RXV-750 through my surround speakers. This is all made possible using the harmony 659 remote. What a great idea. Read up on the latest harmony remotes, sounds like the older models work as good with better layouts.
Now for the Sharp. 10 days out of the box and NO picture. It was out for 1 week before service came and picked it up. It has been in the shop 1 1/2 weeks, 3 parts later and the factory has now requested it be shipped back to them for service. I am righting this out of frustration. Service wants to fix it. I say give me a new model. They say no. After rangling, I have agreed to another "fixed" model if they will overnight it to me. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow. This is no way to treat a customer for an expensive tv.
Pros: Nice picture, great sound Cons: Not good longevity
Twice within 6 months my picture failed. Each time I have had to send it by courier to their service. This is costly and troublesome.
The last time my picture failed was in Feb 2005. The courier picked it up on Feb 16th and service still have it. Very difficult to contact as their phone line is always busy.
Awesome digital picture BUT beware by eclarkrn ,Dec 10 '04
Pros: 1. Awesome digital and high definition picture.
2. Side by side technology good Cons: Cablecard defect;Analog picture poor; Having to switch from digital to analog on remote.
I recently purchased this television and once I turned it on, I fell in love with the digital picture. The analog channels are average. Actually, I think my old 27 inch CRT had a better picture than the analog channels on this brand. BUT beware, if you think your going to use a cable card in the cable slot...it doesn't work well. The cable card gets hot and the fans on the television attempt to cool it down. So even with the television off for hours suddenly the fans come on in an attempt to cool down the TV. After calling Sharp and having the technician come out to look at it, I decided to exchange the television, which J & R music world was kind enough to do and I still had the problem with the 2nd television. I took out the cablecard and the fans haven't come on yet. Unfortunately cablevision is charging me for a 2nd visit for service. So save yourself some cash. Until the technology improves with the cablecard or the televisions that use this technology, cable cards are not worth the hassle.
Pros: Very thin and wall mountable. DVI connection for computer. Cons: Lasted only two days and replaced by Sharp after 1 month.
It took me longer to take the unit out of the box than to set this unit up. I love the looks and at is very thin and fits in my limited space. The unit worked great for 2 days and when I finally figured out how to use the PIP feature the right hand side of the screen went black and red. I called the 800 number and 6 different menus I finally got to the Sharp service center. The repair guy came over a few days later and had to take the unit to the shop. He said it would need to be replaced and now Sharp is trying to figure out if the repair facility tried all the troubleshooting options. I can not give an accurate rating since the LCD only worked 2 days. I will update the review when the unit gets returned.
Unit was replaced by Sharp after 1 month. I love it.It has a DVI-I input and I have my computer connected to it. WOW!! That is worth it alone. The PIP (side by side works great and the Video Distribution center makes it a simple cable run from the device to monitor.
Pros: Very crisp colorful picture. Excellent customer support. Cons: Some units may have a circuit board defect.
I bought this TV online from Abe's of Maine. I was impressed with the speed, quality of delivery, and low price (not the lowest-but very low). However, the right side of the screen was dark-----I had to take the unit to a repair place and Sharp had to fix one of the circuit boards. (--same problem I saw with a model on display at Best Buy----I'm thinking the set has a manufacturing defect????) On the bright side, I called Sharp customer service and immediately (really, no waiting --twice!!) was connected to an extremely pleasant representative who arranged for repair. When the repair was complete, Sharp called me and told me to go to the repair center to pick up the unit. The TV is incredible, the picture is absolutely awesome!!! --Sound is terrific. --colors are fantastic and with HD from Comcast, it is an experience just to watch!! This is a TV that will blow you away. I recommend this TV without reservation.
