I bought this unit for my toddler's room. Been working fine for over 2 years now. Just recently I have been experiencing the "no disc" problem mentioned by many users in their reviews. This issue only happens with burned CD-R's that are labeled as 52X, CD-R's labeled as 1X-52X Compatible work just fine. So it may be that this unit can only read CD-R's that are less than 52X. Just a thought.

We purchased this player because of its price, decent sound and compact. Unfortunately, the player stopped playing CDs just after the warranty expired. It doesn't keep the programmed radio stations if it loses power...pain in the butt if you live in a market with many stations and your power goes out often. The very brightly colored display with alternating green, red and yellow hues is a neat touch but 30 seconds after turning the unit off the color lights magically comes back on in a rotating fashion. Not good if it is in the room in which you sleep - (think Seinfeld and the Kenny Rogers Roasters episode). It has a tape player...but who uses that anymore.

Pros: looks, decent sound for a small, cheap device.
Cons: weird choice of default setup values. READ THE MANUAL!

I'm quite happy with the purchase - I bought a Sony refurb for $39. I see that some of the reviewers are complaining about features like flashing light after the device is turned off. This is demo mode that runs by default. The demo mode is turned off when you set up the clock. True, SONY engineers could have done a bit better by turning demo mode off as a default firmware setup. What is even more annoying is that wakeup music goes on at 12:00AM if you don't turn the wakeup off - another bad default value.

Make sure you install 2 AA batteries for memory backup and all setups (radio, clock, etc.) will be saved if the power goes off.

Cons: CD doesn't work after just 9 months. Radio reception is dicey.

Love the remote feature, but after only a few weeks the CD started to occasionally give a "no disc" message. Now, 9 months later, the CD never works. The warranty is only 90 days; I thought it was probably my fault that it didn't work since I didn't initially try to change out the CD and I figured it was scratched. But now that I've tried brand new CDs in the player and it still won't work, and researched the model, I find this is a very common problem.

Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Junk

Got 2 for Christmas 2003 gifts. One has stopped playing CDs already "No disc" error. DO NOT BUY THIS unless you like being ripped off.

I ordered 2 of these. 1 was defective out of the box - it wouldn't play CD's. Now 3 months later the second one won't play CD's. Don't buy this player.

Pros: None. Looks pretty, but what are looks without function?
Cons: CD player doesn't work. High cost to repair. Warranty short, so no help.

Purchased the CFD-E95 for my pre-teen daughter. Liked design of unit and features. However after a VERY short time, it began to malfunction, saying "no disc".

Cons: CD player fails after very few uses.

I bought this model for its small size, CD and cassette capability in addition to traditional radio features for use on work job sites. After one week (and no more that 3 CD plays) the "no disc" error appears when trying to play a CD (a failure I now read is fairly common with this unit). I returned it to the store which offered me a new replacement. Right out of the box it too will not play a CD. I will avoid Sony for this type of product upon returning this second unit. Strongly advise interested parties to not buy this unless you like returning to the store frequently in frustration.

Even though I hardly used this boombox & never moved it around...it only lasted 1 year. The CD player stopped readings CDs stating "No Disc" & the tape deck stopped working soon thereafter. SONY has reached a new low point with this radio that was not cheap. SONY must know about the problem b/c I've read numerous similar complaints about this model. SONY used to produce a high quality product but now their reputation stinks.
