Pros: Waterproof to 5ft deep--splash proof, snow proof, and sand proof! Cons: Low resolution photos; No digital or optical zoom; No sound in Movie Mode; Fixed Focus
There arent many digital cameras designed to be used in rough conditions. Specifically, one that is water-resistant or even waterproof. Waterproof models usually are way out of the price range of us regular people, but this one isnt. ...
Pros: Excellent underwater and land performance, superb pictures during movement, easy one-handed use, low shutter delay Cons: No digital zoom, occasional sunburst flaring, only 2-megapixels, right-hand model, limited waterproof depth
Being avid snorkelers, my wife and I were looking for a way to replace some of the underwater one-use film cameras that we took on our trips with a waterproof digital camera. After a lot of research into specialized underwater digital cameras and ...
Pros: tough, water/splash proof, fast start/focus, excellent exposure/color balance Cons: over compressed jpeg for larger prints, punchy intense colors
One year after writing this original review, and I'm still using this camera a lot. I took it on a bike trip through France to watch Le Tour de France in July 04. I could have sold it a dozen times over, but didn't. It is still the only fully water ...
Pros: Small-Good quality photos-1 hand operation-Sequencial photo-USB Firewire-15sec movie Cons: NiMh or Lithium AAAbatteries required! NO zoom-Only 6 feet flash
I just got this camera today(Nov. and I saw it in August). This is the best $220 I ever spent on a camera.(Only the camera/no box or batteries or memory stick) but I have a 256 & 512 meg stick & Firewire already. I had come across this from my boss, ...
Pros: Underwater capable; easy to operate; good image quality Cons: No optical viewfinder; LCD display very small; no zoom
I chose this camera because I needed a camera to take with me while snorkeling. I was a bit skeptical that it would actually work well underwater, but it does. water images look great, and the camera has a special setting for underwater imaging. The ...
Pros: Durable, simple, goes everywhere. Easy to shoot with one hand. Cons: battery life not the greatest, but don't let that scare you away.
I've had my U60 almost a year and have taken pictures with it that I never would have gotten with other digital cameras I've owned, simply because it can go where those cameras couldn't. (Something to consider if you're leery about the lack of a zoom.) Though I rarely use it under water, I spend a ton of time on and around water (both liquid and frozen) and have it with me almost all the time. If you're looking for a great family snapshot camera, this one rocks. It's durable and simple enough to hand to my six-year-old and let him snap away. It's small enough to toss in a coat pocket and should it accidentally slip out of that pocket, will survive the fall (at least mine has). Picture quality is great outdoors, good/average indoors. My only gripe is battery life. Get a spare set and keep them charged. (Sony doesn't recommend it, but I've found in a pinch you can squeeze 15-20 shots out of some good alkaline batteries.)
Interesting Design, Uninteresting Zoom by splatcat ,Mar 11 '04
Pros: Waterproof, Pretty Rugged, good quality, comes with batteries and charger Cons: no zoom, awkward to hold at first
I bought this camera because I do a lot of backpacking muddy/wet type of activities and so far, I have not disappointed. The camera quality has been more than I expected for 2 megapixels. I have used the camera under water several times and the quality is exceptional. I would advise getting a bigger memory stick because the 8 mb stick only holds about 16 pics at the 2.0 resolution. other than that It's great!!
Good at what you should expect of it. by effe ,Aug 29 '04
Pros: Seems well made, ease of use and water proof design make it a smart buy. Cons: It's a pricey little hunk of plastic, included memory stick is a bad joke.
The DSC-U60 is a great little camera, perfect for outdoor types who have always wanted a digital camera. I use mine for candid snap-shots. I keep it in my backpack or in my golf bag. It's easy to use and quite a little conversation piece. I have upgraded to a 64MB memory stick though. The standard 8MB stick included free of charge by Sony is virtually useless. The 64MB stick gets me 113 standard photos at it's highest resolution (1,632-by-1,224) vs. the 14 I get with the included 8MB stick. The flash is decent, colors are sharp. Down-loading photos is a snap. The provided image transfer software is great and easy to install and use. Even technophobes can do it. The MPEG movie feature is cool, but not practical (no audio - no video out). If you ran into Bigfoot or Elvis, okay yeah - great to have it, but if you want quality (decent even) video, keep your cam-corder handy. Bottom-line, the DSC-U60 is a pretty good little camera and I'm very happy with it.
