Pros: No doubt about it...Sony makes a great 3-chip camera. Cons: ND filter and manual exposure controls are impossible to use "smoothly"
About this Review This is a very long review. Someone truly interested in buying a camera of this class will probably appreciate this level of detail. I would suggest that you check out the user's manual on www.sonystyle.com for some of the ...
Pros: low light sensitivity
Zoom/Record on Handle
Built in Lens Cover
New Gray Body Color Cons: Achieves beautiful video quality
Overpriced
For the money, would purchase the VX-2000
The Sony DCR-VX2100, is simply an upgrade from its once popular 2nd generation Sony DCR-VX2000. The Sony DCR-VX2000 was introduced in summer of 2000, and was a dramatic improvement from the 1st generation Sony DCR-VX1000. Sony improved the VX-2000 with ...
Pros: pro level video, solid case construction, responsive zoom Cons: price, a little hefty in size, most shots will need a tripod.
This unit is a "pro-sumer" unit... not quite what the pros use, but well above the consumer level unit. The 3ccd senor captures colors in rich vibrant definition and images are crisp and clean... none of the typical "squiggles and lines" from a ...
Pros: Value. Low-light feature(1lux). Professional looking, and gives great results! Cons: None. Not your "uncle joe" video camera.
I want to give a rave review on the Sony's VX-2100. I've had it for over a year now, and can say it's definitely one of the best dv professional camcorders out there. And for about $2200 it's really got great value! I've made a lot of wedding ...
Pros: Great sound and picture quality, tough as hell, good cold/warm heat transitions Cons: 8mb memory stick, replacement parts expensive(mic. mesh is $69 and lens hood is $90 )
I purchased my DCR VX-2100 used from a buddy and we have filmed countless hours on this thing and it looks and sounds as good as ever, and i did i mention its tough as hell. We dropped it lens first onto pavement out of ford f-150 with a 6 inch lift, and ...
Pros: Low light performance, LCD, manual controls, built in lens cap Cons: focal length
I own a Sony DSR250 and Canon GL2. Here is a quick comparison summary. I brought the VX2100 3 months ago and used it on 5 weddings. I am pleased with it. Things I liked: 1. The low light performance is MUCH more superior to the GL2. Although ...
Great wedding/event camcorder! by okvideoguy ,Nov 11 '06
Pros: great in low-light; beautiful image; rugged Cons: front-heavy; no shoulder mount; no independent audio channel control
I'd rather have a PD170 which is essentially the same camera with XLR inputs and separate controls for audio channels, but at the time the money difference was bigger. We own two VX2100s and we do about thirty weddings a year. These cameras are great! I can't say enough goog things about them. I once was using a cheap tripod (bad idea!) and had it slung over my shoulder while I walked along a road on a documentary shoot, when "Crash!" the VX2100 fell off the tripod and fell seven feet to the pavement. It stopped working, but only had a small crack in the case and needed a new switch - $300 in repairs at a great shop in Ft Worth. That was over a year ago. That camera still works as good as new - talk about rugged!
Good enough to make TV commercials by goldman8073 ,Oct 01 '06
Pros: Excellent overall. Great for close up wild animal documentaries - quiet operation, excellent zoom capacity. Cons: Needs a tripod when max. zoom is used - auto focus slow at distance.
Generally an excellent camera for almost any use. At full zoom - use of tripod stand is a must. Long battery life, quick and easy to shoot with and excellent quality pics, and in auto mode is very forgiving if you tend to shoot towards the sun or with too many shadows in the frame. Slight problem with auto focus at distance, as it takes a long time to work it out. It eventually gets there but sometimes disconcerting when you need to opportunity shoot quickly. (This might be problem with this individual camera - as have not seem other negative comment in this regard.)
Overall very impressive and I use it extensively for TV quality adverts. Has never let me down.
Pros: Low light and ease of use Cons: Microphone jack has to have stereo input tip
I have been using the Vx-2100 for nearly 1 year and am happy to say that I find it easy to use but yet full of feature options to allow me to configure and customize the settings. I love every part of the camera and I just bought my son a Vx-2100, he in turn can't stop bragging about it and just loves it for skateboarding videotaping. The DVD's produced are all great. We especially love the low light capability.
Sony HandyCam DCR-VX2100 in daily production by woodshopdemos ,Jul 26 '05
Pros: great picture. camera has nice feel. Cons: none yet
I am using it for "pro" production. It is way better than the Sony DXC327 that I have used for last 20 years. The DXC looks more the part, but the DCR-VX2100 delivers. My big hands are pretty clumsy with the DVmini tapes and certainly with all the little mini buttons. AT 5 or 6 lbs it is still underweight for my Schacther Video 15 tripod. Placing small 9 inch monitor of tripod with the camera is better balancing. I should probably just remove the counterbalance spring...not needed.
