Pros: Light, easy to use, sharp pictures, very durable. Cons: Need to upgrade memory stick, and this is a discontinued model camera
I’m just a girl with a digital camera. I’m no expert at technology or hardware. I’m no photography guru or gadgets whiz. But I am one heck of an end-user and that is what this review of SONY Cyber-shot DSC-P100 is… an end-user’s perspective ...
Ive been a Canon fan since my first digital camera, a PowerShot S20, back in 2000. That 3 megapixel (MP) camera was a real gem of technology way back then. But new models advance and in early 2003 I upgraded to a slick 5 MP Powershot S50. It has ...

My final camera selection was limited to the Canon S410/S500 and the Sony DSC-P100 since my primary goal was to obtain a ultra-compact camera that I'd always have with me to take photos. This excluded my first choice Canon S60. My review tends to ...
Pros: This is a good camera for the price, definately buy an extended warranty. Cons: Sony's warranty performance is a scam, pure and simple
In Feb. 2005 I purchased a P100 camera from my local Sears store. This was the third sony camera I have had. I have had good luck with the camera in general, and meets my needs as a carpenter, using it to document my work, and for family photo's, etc. ...

I'd buy this camera again if I had to buy one. by hokinizeu ,Nov 30 '06
Pros: Compact, long lasting battery, easy to use Cons: Requires Memory Stick Pro for more capacity for pictures and videos
I've had it nearly for two years, price hasn't gone down much. That should say something about this camera; I spent $400 for this camera with 256MB memory stick pro. It's just a great camera, very compact, great picture quality, compact, long lasting battery, very easy to use, easy to transfer pictures to your computer. I also use this camera to transfer files b/w PCs. I still love this camera.
About 10-15 % of the pictures are blurry. There are problems with the auto focus. When I get my tax rebates, I am going to give this to my niece and get a Canon Powershot.
Sony DSC P100, Very Good Camera by robbybrummy ,Aug 24 '07
Pros: It takes clear sharp crisp photos. It doesn't require special drivers to load. Cons: I cant think of anything really that I would want different in it.
This was my first foray into the digital photography universe, and I must say, this camera has made it really pleasurable and fun.
I have had an altogether very positive results with my camera.
I bought mine used, since I was not quite sure what to expect, I was pleasantly suprised by the features and how easy it was to use this camera.
I use it to take photos of fine details like embroidery, and patterns for a small online retail business.
Even in challenging light conditions, like indoors, it still takes fantastic photos.
The colour is very good too. It is compact which makes it effortless to carry with me.
Good camera, but shutter speed drove me crazy by mascaramagic ,Nov 17 '06
Pros: cheap, light and easy to use Cons: shutter speed, battery life and small screen
bought this camera one Christmas and it has served me faithfully for many years, but as technology has advanced and the number of photos i took increased, i felt in need of something with a larger screen and longer battery life. The time it takes to actually take a picture was very long and was difficult to take 'action' shots.
Pros: excellent lens, good pictures Cons: Ambiguous charger connector, a little hard to hook up.
I've always thought Sony charges a little more just because of their brand recognition, but in my experience the Sony brand usually insures a high level of quality. This camera is no exception! I bought it because of the lens system and pixel count. You can't beat a Carl Zeiss lens.. The Vario-Tessar is the best compact lens system! The camera takes amazing pictures for it's size and is very good in low light situations. The adjustments and features are easy to set up and the battery lasts a long time between recharges. Prints made at a Kodak or Fuji Kiosk look better than 35mm snapshots to me. I thought the Mpeg movie feature was going to be a poor quality add-on, but it works very well for short clips.
I would recommend the camera or it's later offspring with similar features.
Great Pictures with Fast Shutter and Long Battery Life by alanpgh ,Jan 18 '05
Pros: Nice Picture Quality, Very Fast Shutter Speed, Long Battery Life, Great Movie Mode with Sound. Cons: None so far.
The Sony P-100 is a very compact, take it with you camera. I bought a P-100 as a replacement for my aging Minolta Dimage XT.
Picture quality is very good. Very fast shutter speed and long battery life. Movie mode is also very good. I also recommend the Sony dock for your TV.
Bought it in October 2004 from Staples.com. Very fast delivery. Used my American Express Rewards Points to save $100. (Price shown is after $100. discount using my American Express Rewards Points.) Sony also gave me 20% off on accessories ordered after the purchase from sonystyle.com.
Honestly, this is a great camera! by djic ,Jul 31 '04
Pros: Excellent photos, awesome InfoLithium battery life, good-sized LCD, compactness, and numerous accessories available. Cons: Haven't found any yet.
I'm not an expert photographer, but I can tell you that the photos I've taken with this camera have blown my mind. The tweaks that are possible are sweet, and allow me to easily set up for action shots, low light settings and candid shots. All the flexibility makes this Sony a winner. I can't imagine why this camera would ever get a bad review since this camera exceeds any expectation for a point-and-shoot. I spent a couple of weeks researching digital cameras and for the price, surplus of features, and name you can trust, Sony has done it again.
Anyone else with low picture quality when zoomed in? by jackson97124 ,May 09 '05
Pros: Takes great still pictures, color is great, crystal clear. Video mode is adequate. Cons: Blurry photos when zoomed all the way in. May be defect, I don't know.
I love this camera. Everything about it has been great except one thing. When I zoom all the way in the picture quality is terrible. It is very blurry and streaky, especially in high light situations. Is this normal? Does anyone else have this issue? When not zoomed in all the way the pictures are crystal clear. Please help. I can take this back and get it fixed if it is a defect, but if they all do this it won't help.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Pros: It's small, light, easy to use and takes great pictures. Cons: The accessories are expensive.
I recently purchased the Sony Cyber-shot P100 after doing a great deal of research on-line and in the stores and by asking people I know about their cameras. I chose this camera and am 100% satisfied. I love it because it's small enough to take anywhere--and if you're leaving your camera home because it's too bulky or heavy, then it doesn't matter how good it is--does it?! I also love the quality of the pictures and the ease of use. There are so many features it's great, but even before reading about all of them, the first time I used it, I was able to take great action shots at my nieces gymnastics party. The colors and the action were so life-like. The red-eye reduction works really well--just for test purposes I took the same pictures of the same subject with the red-eye reduction on and off and the difference was amazing.
Pros: easy to use, super fast start up, long battery, small enough body, large pixel. Cons: small LCD, design not good for one hand operate, flash only good for near objects
A not-so-big camera with fast start up, and nice battery life which will catch nice pictures quick. Also with its strong flash, and auto focus if shot steady enough, the pictures are good. A nice choice for beginner.
Great Video, Average Pictures by nettech ,Oct 04 '05
Pros: Great Video,
Small Compact Design,
Easy Operations,
Speed of picture taking
Cons: Picture sharpness,
Fragile,
Memory Stick cost,
Small stick included
I bought this camera for a few reasons. I needed a digital camera to replace a Fujifilm that was stolen. I also bought this camera because of the Sony name. I own a few Sony products at home, a Handycam and a Clie and I like the company.
Since I am away from my family I needed a camera that could take good videos. I am very pleased with the video quality and size, 640X480, 30FPS. Now the pictures, while most of the pictures came out clear, there were quite a few pictures that did not. Some pictures may have been caused by the shaky hand syndrome, but I personally think that is not the case for all the pictures. I was a little disappointed in the quality of these pictures. I just could not help but compare the photos to my older Fuji, which I believe took a sharper photo. About a month ago the camera screen cracked, I honestly do not remember banging it around; lets see what that will run me.
problems retracting the lens by manuelparra ,Feb 11 '05
Pros: seems to be great but... Cons: my lens last just a month...
First I apologize for any grammatical error (I am not English speaker)...
One month after I acquired the camera, I was taking some photos when the batteries get really low in charge. The camera turned off without retracting the lens. I recharged the batteries (still thinking it might be the problem) but the lens never retracted again and the camera stayed inoperative. I sent the camera to the Laredo Repair Center and they just said it was due to physical damage (????) and (of course) the warranty did not apply anymore. I can swear the camera never suffered any hit or physical damage thus I am almost sure my ex-camera came with this problem from the fabric. I neither recommend this camera nor Sony technical Service.
Pros: Underwater housing available, size, picture quality, battery life in minutes, manual mode, auto shut-off Cons: Packaged with 32MB(12 pics), controls a bit tedious, accessories are a little pricey
This camera is small enough to fit in your pocket and takes great photos. I was amazed at how bright the photos were even in dark areas. Accessories are a bit pricey but thats expected with Sony. I found that pagecomputers.com offer the best prices on accessory items. The upside is that Sony does offer many accessories for whatever your needs. Sony offers a reasonably priced underwater housing rated to 132 ft. Being a scuba diver, this was an important feature for me. The controls do take some practice to get use to so read your manual. I shot all weekend in the auto mode at my family reunion and the pictures turned out great. It was nice to let everyone view my pictures via TV in the evening after they were taken. The camera to TV cable is included with the camera so you don't need the docking station unless you like the remote control feature. The camera itself has a metal body and not plastic like many others out there. So far I'm very happy with this camera and besides it's a SONY.
Pros: compact, strong brand name, balanced and light-weight; mpegs have sound from built-in microphone. Cons: most pictures are out of focus. I'm returning mine!
P100 is attractive in size, brand name and balance/weight. But, it takes poor quality pictures... 90% are not in focus. I've tried a variety of subjects at different distances and in different lighting conditions... about 90% of the photos are not in focus, especially if you zoom in when using the 5M pixel mode. I'm returning mine even though I may have to eat the restocking fee and extended warranty I purchased.
Pros: the picture modes, way to set manual picture quality, the flash. Cons: the memory usage, the card given by Sony is not enough for a 5MP camera.
This is realy a great camera, compact, and packed with premium feautures. The size fits into your pocket and easily allow's you to capture the moment that you've always wanted.
Pros: easy to use, takes beautiful professional pictures. Cons: maybe a larger viewer? light for shooting video.
i purchased this camera about a year and a half ago, and fell in love! the camera can see things i cant! try zooming your photo in the viewer, then trim it, then zoom that, then trim it again, well, you get the picture!! and crystal clear! the camera would have to be surgically removed to take it from me.
A great point-and-shoot digital camera! by mike_donaldson ,Jun 07 '04
Pros: takes wonderfully clear and detailed pictures, compact, easy to use, great value Cons: no tiff, 32 MB memory stick
I have owned 3 digital cameras in the past 3 years but this is the first Sony that I have purchased. I have to say I am so far very impressed with it. If your looking for a small, easy to use, point-and-shoot digital camera, this is a great one to have. I bought it for 380 bucks and I believe it was well worth it. Takes crystal clear pictures with a nice variety of options and settings for customization.
Sony DSC-P100 is a WINNER!!! by hawkintx ,Oct 08 '04
Pros: VERY FAST!! Great low light performance! Cons: Goofy recharging cord connection unless you buy the charging cradle (which is great!).
I've been using my P100 for about a week now and I've been THRILLED with the results. I have used a Canon PowerShot S45 for the past year and a half and was very disappointed with the auto focus performance. The P100 is SO FAST when focusing and taking pictures....it's much easier to capture great photos of my 2 year old. The complaint about Memory Sticks being expensive is invalid, there are a lot of manufacturers available now and the prices have come down substantially. Awesome battery life and small size are additional pluses. All in all a great point and shoot camera with some flexibility for being creative.
Pros: Thin, lightweight, great pictures, lens cover closes when power is off. Cons: I hoped that to put an additional lens on would not require and adapter.
I recently purchased this camera and I am totally in love with it. It is easy to use. Lightweight and takes crystal clear pictures.
I liked this so much that I purchased a Sony DSC-P72 for my 15 yr old son. He loves his as well.
Those reviews above are a cakewalk! by kontol ,Jul 01 '04
Pros: Video Mode Cons: Expensive memory stick, picture noise all over the taken pictures
This camera was not a good digital camera because it has a darn bad noisy pixel shots and the memory stick is darn expensive!! Look at that darn photo qualities that I took beforehand, God Darn noise all over the pictures. I like the camera because of its brand, Sony, and the price was not that expensive... maybe if you don't care about picture quality, you can buy this camera. One thing to tell you that Sony is a camcorder maker, therefore I would expect the best from the movie mode of this darn camera. But I am just a god darn photo takers without doing some of the video thing. So, all those reviews are CAKEWALK!
