by readhttp , Feb 05 '05
Pros: Perfect size and balance, outstanding image output
Cons: None
As it grew to be time to replace my ancient (six year old) digital camera, and after careful review of the myriad of choices reflected upon by the many wonderful persons on Epinions, I selected the Sony Cybershot DSC – P93A for my new image ...

A Perfect camera for couples where he wants features and she wants simplicity.

by thetaxiguy , Jul 09 '04
Pros: Price, Picture quality, size, features, Manual shutter adjustment, noise reduction,
Cons: Must have Memory Stick Pro to shoot the high quality video.
I have had a great experience with this camera. I did a lot of research to determine the camera I wanted and I dicided to get the Sony DSC-P93. This is a camera for couples. I'll explain. I wanted a camera I could do all kinds of cool stuff ...

Superb Camera

by karenlw , Feb 26 '05
Pros: Build quality, picture quality, Uses AA batteries
Cons: None - it's excellent!
After +20 years years of using Olympus cameras, I bought my first Sony DSCP92 in 2003 and was converted to Sony instantly - and I've never looked back. I enjoyed 2 years of using my DSCP92 then bought the DSCP93 for my father - although it will be ...

More a gadget than a camera

by dkseeles , Jun 08 '04
Pros: Lots of cool features; great as a gadget
Cons: A struggle to create good-quality photos; not a photographers' camera.
Review version 3 After 4 months with this camera, I now have a fair idea of it's potential. To give some background; my last camera was a Fuji Finepix 4700Zoom, and I loved it so much, I bought three in succession when the others were lost/damaged. ...

DSC-P93 quick opinion

by eiapoce , May 17 '05
Pros: Battery Life - NightShots - 5Mp - Fast and configurable.
Cons: Some soft image problems
Hi, this is my fifth digital camera and my favorite after all. I have been using it for quite a while (6 months) and shot almost 5000 pics. I don't want to make another "copycat" review as most of them are already good quality and some are just a ...

More than you probably need...but nice to have

by pitpndlm , Oct 18 '04
Pros: Fantastic photo quality, options in photo taking, available accessories, image stabilization, movie capability.
Cons: It isn’t cheap, but you get your moneys worth.
My wife and I bought this camera to replace our old Kodak 1.9 mega pixel that we loved for the inherent convenience of the digital format, but it's quality was really only good for snapshots. I initially wanted a good 35mm as I have some experience ...

Small and Easy

by pony-dog , Nov 09 '05
Pros: size, ease of use, durability, feature packed
Cons: slow in auto mode, memory stick
This was my 1st serious digital camera. I switched from a Canon Rebel 35mm SLR. In some respects it will always be a major step down to replace a SLR with a point and shoot. So it would not be fair to compare it to a SLR. Since then I have used my wife's ...

A big let down!
by solarbear ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Brand name, 5mp, aesthetics
Cons: PICTURE QUALITY!!!!
I was so excited to get this camera for xmas, it was sleek, stylish, and of course a Sony! Well, I am on this forum trying to find its replacement. My wife and I are very disappointed in the picture quality for a 5mp camera. We had an Olympus d490 before (only 2mp) that took clearer pictures. The Sony has a lot of power, parts of pictures are very clear, but the auto focus doesn't work properly. One person will be crystal clear in a picture and the person right next to them will be blurry. I've tried many of the other settings but no luck. We were wanting a true "point and shoot" camera. If that is what you are looking for, I would look elsewhere.

Hard to get pictures that are memorable with this camera
by jg3arrow ,Apr 16 '05
Pros: Takes competent pictures and uses AA batteries
Cons: Pictures lack verve
This camera takes good, not great pictures. Like another reviewer said this camera doesn't not take pictures with soul or verve. The colors are very ordinary. Taking a good sunset picture without a filter of some kind is a waste of time. Beautiful turquoise waters, azure skies, copper-skinned girls are all lost on this thing. The resolution is adequate, and I paid for the thing the first week I had it by taking a publishable picture. But a year later, I was ready to get rid of the thing. I traded up to the new P200 with 7 megapixels so I could hopefully use a few of the same peripherals...unfortunately I can't. The 93 at least uses AA batteries...its best feature.

I take it everywhere... but not like that !
by ruffas ,May 19 '05
Pros: picture, quality, battery performance, ease of use, weight.
Cons: no complaints whatsoever..
I have had CyberShots for a few years and bought this one about 6 months ago and can;t see me changing for some time.

Small but it feels heavy in your hand which is what you need to get those steady shots when zooming in on the birds. ;o) The manual functions on this camera have helped me understand a lot about photography as you can have as much or as little control over the parameters as possible.

Picture quality is awesome, video quality is amazing! I have converted MPEGs into DVD and played back on my large TV and they transfer very well.

Using Sony Stamina batteries I get hours of use out this before i need to recharge.

This simply a brilliant camera and I would recommend it to anyone from beginners to seasoned photographers.

Perfect point and shoot
by darknight1580 ,Jul 27 '05
Pros: Small, good on batteries, great resolution.
Cons: Small aperture range.
I bought this camera because I was in need of a small, compact take-anywhere point and shoot camera, and was very pleased. I come from a manual 35mm SLR background and therefore was only slightly disappointed in the low-light outdoor picture quality, but that's my only complaint. The aperture in such cases just doesn't go low enough, but again, this is not what I bought it for. It works great for daylight landscapes, portraits of any sort, and things of the like. Focus in my honest opinion, works flawlessly, and even in low light (short distance) can use the IR beam to help it focus. One more plus to me was the ability to use non-proprietary AA batteries. Overall, perfect combination of resolution, size, ability, and price.

SONY DSCP-93
by sjsrana ,Jul 04 '04
Pros: Overall has lots of good features and ease of use/UI.
Cons: Not very impressed with picture quality.
Overall has lots of good features and ease of use/UI. Main attraction is 1GB "fast memory" stick which can store full VGA movie with mono sound (12.xx min). Can display on NTSC/PAL USB 2 compliant makes it a good value for price.

However I was not very impressed with picture quality. May be it requires some special config/settings to deliver digital crisp-ness therefore does not prove to be a real POIN-n-SHOOT camera. Also it requires special adapter to attach special lenses (UV/TELE/POLO) etc.

In a nut-shell watch for what you are looking in this camera.

Awesome Camera!
by marcusmeyers ,Aug 28 '04
Pros: Fast focusing, excellent MPEG quality and picture quality.
Cons: Manual controls are decent but not true manual.
I've owned many sony digital cameras starting with the P1 and I'll have to say, there are great improvements with every new line that comes out. Comparing this camera to the P100, even for not having a Carl Zeiss lens, the image quality is almost identical. The MPEG movie VX fine is awesome but EATS memory! You only get a little over 3 mins of video with a 256MB Memory Stick Pro. Time to invest in a 2GB SanDisk, hopefully the prices will drop shortly. The AA batteries last even longer per charge than in my P92. Width and depth are almost identical to the P92 but the height is about 1/2 inch shorter which makes it about the same size as the previous P5, P9 or P10. I like the fact that they added Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness controls. I highly recommend this camera to any amateur or advanced photographer!

Disappointing Picture Quality
by retracj ,Sep 08 '04
Pros: Sony Brand Name
Cons: Disappointing Picture Quality
I recently decided to make the switch from a film camera after borrowing an older 2MP Sony Cyber-Shot on a trip to Patagonia. That camera took such great and easy pictures that I was sold both on the digitals and on the Sonys. When I got back to the states I waited awhile for prices to drop and than eagerly bought the DSC-P93 expecting great things.

I was disappointed in the quality of the pictures. I don't know if it is the lens, or the processor or what, but many of my pictures appeared too soft. Pictures capturing contrasts of sunlight and shadow were either too dark, or over-exposed. A few appeared to be out of focus. The LCD was hard to see in sunlight.

I suppose everything else works fine - I very much like the Sony layout for functions and controls, and the flash is powerful...but..I wanted a camera that takes great pictures. I just returned the Sony DSC-P93 for a Canon S410. It is a step down to 4 MPs, but surprisingly, the picture quality is better.
