  • The Sony DVP-NS575P : DVD Quality on a Budget

    Dec 1, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Small, easy to use, good picture, cheap, available all over the place
Cons: Cheap feel, no optical out

Summary: A Little Background I purchased this player along with a base model receiver, basic speakers, and fairly nice TV (that they actually paid for) as an early Christmas gift for the aunt and uncle. Last month during one of Texas' ... read more

  • Shines on old NTSC TVs

    May 9, 2008 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Picture quality, ergonomics, build quality, Sony special features.
Cons: Small buttons on remote and unit. Embedded copy protection. Cheap but deeper discounts are rare.

Summary: For the executive summary, read only the bolded items. This is my third player since 2006. I own the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300S [reviewed on epinions] and Philips DVP642, all still work. However, they have quirks. Cyberhome won't play some of my ... read more

  • Sony DVP-NS57P: Not bad for a low-priced player, but not problem-free, either.

    Apr 2, 2008 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Easy to connect/set up, inexpensive, works with most TV brands
Cons: It's not really HD ready....and it has a few issues with playback.

Summary: When I purchased my S amsung LN-T2643H high definition TV in mid-January of 2008, I was faced with two non-critical and somewhat related questions about the analog TV I was replacing and whether or not I should get a ... read more

  • Second Time is a Charm

    Feb 20, 2008 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Has all the features you could want. Very good audio and video.
    Cons: First unit had problems.

Summary: I was a big fan of Sony quality until about 10 years ago. Then they went cheap and started their nutty DRM rootkit thing on audio CD's. I got a 20 year anniversary present from my company. The only choices I liked were a set of kitchen knives that ... read more

  • A Better DVD Player For Older, Used Discs

    Dec 4, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Plays older DVD's cheaper players might not be able to read; good picture and sound
Cons: A-B Repeat and other control features are more complicated, not as convenient to use

Summary: Well, I have learned a good lesson this year. Stay away from those ultra-compact DVD players that run 30 to 40 dollars. Unless your DVD's are in pristine condition, those players won't play older or more heavily used discs at all. I have seen the ... read more

  • Great Entry Level DVD Player

    Feb 9, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Many great features, plays VCD's too, remote works Sony TV's, handles marginal discs well
Cons: Only has s-video and component outputs, some buttons on remote too sensitive, flimsy cabinet

Summary: First, I believe this model as of 2/2006 is discontinued, so you will probably only find it on eBay and the liquidators these days. I got mine on eBay from a dealer who specializes in RMA's (customer returns) and who supposedly tests them fully ... read more

  • very disappointed in this DVD Player and Sony as well

    Jan 31, 2005 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: It is a slim, sleek, design.
    Cons: it does NOT work.

Summary: I purchased the Sony DVP-NS575P DVD player about 3 weeks ago, which was my 3rd and 4th DVD player purchase in less than ONE month. In my learning process I found that there are several different types of DVD media and I specifically needed one that would ... read more

  • A Good Entry Level DVD Player

    Jun 21, 2004 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Easy to use, good picture and sound quality.
    Cons: "Touchy" remote.

Summary: The DVP-NS575P is Sony’s entry-level DVD player. I’m not really a big movie guy, or a “home entertainment” nut for that matter. In fact, our living room is highlighted by a 13-year old 20 inch wide TV with a trusty pair of bunny ears on ... read more

  • Disappointed feel Compatibility Issues - Stop working reading dics

    Dec 19, 2008 by

Pros: None stoped reading almost all of the discs after three months.
Cons: Region 1 code only and copy protection compability at least on mine DVD Player.

Summary: This DVD player lasted only three months for me - will not read the disc now.  I did not get the extended warranty because I felt if there was problem it would happen right away.  I was wrong.  Since just a few disc play - it might have ... read more

Pros: easy to set up. Good picture and sound
Cons: Flimsy plastic tray to hold the discs. Bad customer support from SONY.

Summary: We loved it until for about three months. Then after fairly light use, it gave us the message, "no disk" or "can't read disk" It wouldn't play anything: new or old CDs and DVDs. We called SONY and they offered us a refurbished model, for $35 plus ... read more

  • Great sounding player for the money

    Aug 10, 2007 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Excellent value, straight forward remote, good clean sound.
    Cons: Very light weight.

Summary: I needed a cd player for my audio system and being an audiophile on a budget, the Sony DVP-NS57P cannot be beat! Has great sound overall that comes close to more expensive players, good bass, mids and very nice soft and detailed highs. I cant speak for ... read more

  • Stopped working after about a year

    Mar 31, 2007 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Looked and sounded fine until it died.
    Cons: It died.

Summary: Unless you're looking for your DVD player to spell out the word CANNOT for every disc you put in, this may not be the machine for you. The picture and sound had been quite good for the price, but my intention wasn't to buy a living room DVD player ... read more

  • Cheap machine bad picture

    Jan 7, 2007 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: None
    Cons: All

Summary: The only redeeming quality of this player is its half-decent stereo imaging; this doesn't mean it SOUNDS good. Picture quality through the upconversion is grainy and veiled. Color balance poor, green tint. If you want a cheap machine because it's slim, ... read more

  • This small component has quite a punch!

    Mar 25, 2006 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Great picture, component video output, progressive scan
Cons: Small size could mean lack of quality/durability, a little pricey

Summary: I bought this DVD player right after purchasing a 32" sony tv. This player was at a great price for a Sony. I was hesitant to buy it due to its very small size (lack of quality/durability?), but it has proved to be a winner! When this DVD player and ... read more

  • Engineered junk

    Jan 23, 2006 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: None.
Cons: Units only built to last warranty period, then expire. And Sony offers no help.

Summary: Worked fine until one month after the warranty expired. Then the unit would not recognize the remote any more - had to buy a new remote. Three weeks later got the "no disc" message, and the unit would not accept any more commands. Phoned Sony - first of ... read more

  • The Sony DVP NS575P : DVD on a Budget

    Jan 1, 2005 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Slim, affordable, very good picture and plays DVD and CD recordable mediums well.
Cons: Slow to start up, poor music CD support, limited AV jacks

Summary: I bought this unit because my PlayStation would not work as a DVD player for my two-year-olds InteracTV (fisher price). This unit was simple to setup and easy to use. It starts up a little slow but not too bad. I had only one shelf, with any space left, ... read more

  • skinny and quiet, unlike my Ex wife . . . just kidding

    Dec 23, 2004 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Good looking, and very quiet! My old one made more noise than the movie.
Cons: Very very slow to start up. Remote hard to operate by feel.

Summary: Very slim and nice looking unit. Your basic DVD player without 3:2 pulldown (or whatever they call it). I'm using it with an LCD and the picture quality is plenty good enough. I think it was built in the South because it is very slooooooowww to load. ... read more

    Cons: Non at this time.

Summary: The Sony DVP-NS575P is a great DVD player. It is very compatible with my new wide screen TV. Because of the slim design, I now have room on the shelf for a VHS ... read more

  • Great Player

    Nov 6, 2004 by
    Rated Show
Pros: great performance, slim design, multi-format
    Cons: flimsy tray

Summary: Just got mine for about $90 at best buy whitehall,PA. Tray is pretty flimsy and the remote is very long, but neither is really a problem. I tested a HP DVD+R 4x disc and it works perfectly. The player takes a few seconds to recognize a disc when first ... read more
