Pros: Stunning picture quality with HD programming, very good internal speakers, decent SD picture quality. Cons: Awkward remote, internal speakers must be turned off for audio output to work.
I went through the long and confusing selection process that most big screen TV buyers suffer through. Plasma looks great but what about burn-in and durability? DLP is fantastic, but what about the rainbow effect and headaches? LCD...poor black ...
Pros: Excellent HD image quality, ease of use and setup, form factor Cons:Disappointing standard image quality, bright color glare and eye-strain
I picked up this TV a few weeks ago after deciding to upgrade to 16:9 and HDTV. My previous TV was a 32" Trinitron which was (especially in retrospect) a fantastic TV. The only drawbacks were that it was 4:3 standard def, it weighed about 120 pounds, ...
Pros: Amazing HD picture, ease of use, many inputs/options Cons: Black levels are still a bit off; pixelation w/ fast movement, bright light
I had been shopping for a new television for the better part of three months, and had gone from plasma to LCD and back, before finally settling on the Sony 42" Grand WEGA HDTV projection LCD television. It is, hands down, the absolute best value ...
Although I initially did not consider this TV because Consumer Reports and CNET recommended other models in the rear-projection category, after test driving three models (Panasonic 43" LCD, Samsung 46" DLP, and this Sony), I found that this TV offered ...
UPDATE: January 2007 Had I not bought the extended warranty on this, I would have paid for it twice. There was a problem (apparently one many have had) with what is called "roadmapping" or the "etch a sketch" effect on my tv. I turned it on one ...
Pros: Good value for the money outlay, easy-to-navigate on-screen menu, many choices of cabling options. Cons: Remote control is complex, but can serve as a universal remote for satellite/cable box/dvd/vcr, etc.
This was my first purchase of a big screen TV, having migrated from a 22" tube TV, which was really too small for my 10 x 12 foot living room. As a rule of thumb, a viewable TV should be 1/3rd the size of the room, so for a 12 foot room, a 42" TV is ...
Pros: Great quality picture, UNTIL the known Optical-Block defect arises. Cons: STAY away from this and all other SONY products. They don't care after you purchase.
I've had my Sony Grand Wega KDF-42WE655 for just 27 months. It went on record as the most expensive television set I ever owned, I'm an avid TV viewer. Went it developed a strange, random "pattern" in the picture, I was heartbroken thinking that the ...
Pros: Definitely recommend! Cons: Minor issues of black level and pixelation
Could not be happier with this tv. After much research on competing technologies and companies, I bought this TV and could not be happier. Before I describe the TV, let me give a quick synopsis of how I chose it. First decided on physical ...
Pros: The pixel is higher than other brand, and the price is very reasonable. Cons: Blue star, yellow blotch blue spot on the screen.
We bought this TV on 11/12/2004. We were planning to buy other brand, but when we compare the price and the specs. SONY was the winner. I think SONY name was a part of our decision that time. We paid 2,059.19 on sale, regular was 2,339.99 and got a 2 ...
Pros: Picture quality
Sound quality
Built-in receiver automatically receives HD direct from cable Cons: Cabinet is uninspiring
After shopping around in person and then checking out reviews, I settled on this model for our relatively small TV room (viewing distance about 10 feet). We've had it for about a week now and we love it. Took it out of the box, plugged in the cable and ...
Pros: Great Picture for projection TV. High quality sound has a wide range of viewing angle. Cons: this TV will Break 3 months to a little over a year.
Sony KDF 42WE655 - 42 inch projection TV... Just got off the phone with Sony and there is nothing they will do about the problem with their TV breaking after a little over a year. I would power up the TV and the screen remains blank - no sound no picture. I highly recommend that no one should buy this TV and look for another brand.
(I know about the bulb that you have to replace and its not that)
I did a little research and there are a lot of other TV (same model) that have the same problem. When will Sony admit that this is a problem and start offering free Parts and Labor. Their excuse was that things break - Yeah I have a 1994 Toyota pick up that I had a recall on last year (2006) and Toyota picked up the tab for Parts + Labor and a FREE LOANER!
Pros: great picture, lots of option for hooking up auxillary.light weight and nice looking Cons: lamp bulb gave out in one year.remote is somewhat complicated.
my Sony gave out after one year the lamp bulb had to be replaced.the factory warranty was for one year ,i was one month beyond the warranty and they would not fix it.so if you buy one be sure to get the extended warranty or you'll be facing a $200-500 repair cost.i would think after paying 2,500 ,dollars they would make a little concession but they wouldn't ,so i'll let all know to beware.this product is great until the bulb goes out in one year and a month
Pros: good picture Cons: bulb does not last long and is pricey to replace
i have had a sony grand wega 42 inch tv for two years. the picture went black and i had to replace the bulb. it cost $216.00. i paid $2200 for the tv. i think the bulbs should last longer. i think sony should come up with a longer lasting bulb and replace all the bulbs on their grand wega tv's. if u agree u should go to sony's web site and send them an e mail.
Pros: many inputs for auxiliary components Cons: poor quality, poor warranty
Initially I really loved the picture quality. After about 14 months pink blotches appeared on the screen. After contacting Sony the problem was diagnosed as "environmental not a problem with the TV. This left me with a $400.00 repair bill and no guarantee it would not happen again. Oh even the extended warranty would not cover this since it is not a problem with the TV but is labeled as environmental
Pros: NONE ANYMORE Cons: Basically a disposable unit
I have had mine for 14 months. Problems with the set require replacement of costly OPTICAL BLOCK. Simply google KDF-42WE655 Optical Block. This set is GARBAGE and Sony knows it. However...........SONY WILL DO NOTHING EVEN IF WITHIN WARRANTY. They deem the problem ENVIRONMENTAL.
