Pros: Vivid, Detailed, and Affordable Cons: Contrasting Front Panel Doesn't Appeal to All
Sony, a long time industry leader among televisions has done it yet again. They have taken technology to a new extreme, and left all other TV manufacturers pondering as to what to do. With the newest and biggest release of the year, the Grand Wega, as ...
Pros: Excellent picture quality Cons: Not enough HD channels to fully appreciate TV's capability
My 50-inch rear projection TV started giving intolerable double images after 14 years. It was a time to replace it. For a new TV, I shopped three different stores with three others (my wife and another couple). Considering picture quality, ...
Pros: Picture, features, size, weight & number of inputs Cons: Product defects - I was burned with the too common startup defect.
This is an incredible, yet unacceptable, TV. It has a great picture, huge screen, rich features, surprisingly excellent speakers, a thin profile, and abundant input jacks. It's much cheaper than a plasma of the same size and LCD panels don't even come ...
Pros: PICTURE QUALITY, price, form factor, inputs, sound Cons: Styling?, brightness in well lit rooms
I've been meaning to write this review for a few weeks now, but when I saw another review that I didn't feel gave this set a fair shake, I figured I'd better bite the bullet and toss in my two cents and what I feel is a great product. I've been ...
Pros: Jawdropping picture quality. Beautiful styling. Great price. Cons: None I can think of.
My searched for an HDTV and pretty much boiled down to the Sony or Samsung's DLP. I nixed the Samsung, because I wasn't willing to risk the possibility of the "rainbow effect." I know it only effects a small minority of people who may be susceptible to ...
Pros: Outrageous picture quality, many helpful features, easy integration with other Sony products Cons: At $3,000 plus a pop, a defect well defect should be corrected...DO NOT BUY
I followed the progression of advice on the net from the time the TV was introduced till the time I purchased my set...it seemed the manufacturing defect was corrected, or at least that it was increasingly unlikely. I thought I would miss the virus. ...
Pros: Excellent HDTV picture and good sound speakers Cons: Picture quality on some cable channels, price
This is a review of a Sony 60 inch Rear projection LCD that my Uncle owns. He purchased the TV at a local Circuit City in December 2003. The Sony 60 inch is a excellent TV in my opinion when it is in HDTV mode. However on regular cable I don't think ...
Pros: great picture, great great great (no black detail. none) Cons: how do you get anything besides the picture to work ??????
Great picture. No place for center channel, will have to mount a shelf behind the TV. That sucks. If you buy Sony's shelf, no place for center speaker at bottom because that's where the receiver has to go. No place for much of anything on the shelves ...
Good for the first 9 months ONLY!! by lynneric86 ,Nov 18 '07
Pros: OK TV until it won't turn on and then the blue dots begin.
Cons: You would think a SONY 60" would last more than 3 years, but NO.
Purchased the Sony LCD Projection TV from Comp USA in April 2004. Within 9 months we had our FIRST service call and had to replace the lamp because it wouldn't turn on. Same problem with our SECOND service call a year later. NOW you can hardly
watch the screen because there are so many blue dots and blue clouds. From what I understand this will cost more than a new TV and believe me it WON'T be a SONY!! DO NOT BUY. No help from the customer service agent in India?.
Pros: Great picture, logical controls easy even for a non-geek to operate. Cons: While lighter than even a smaller conventional CRT TV, the Sony is fairly heavy.
I went to a local electronics store not knowing anything at all about HDTVs. While the salesman did try to convince me that I needed the much more expensive plasma screen, as I keep all my components in built-in cabinets in our entertainment room, it didn't seem to make sense to buy a set that was that much more expensive to save the 24" inches of so of depth that would be gained by wall mounting the plasma screen when I would still have the cabinets coming out at least two-feet from the wall. I bought the Sony LCD and I'm delighted with it particularly since I went to a fiber optic high-density connection. the picture is about as good as I've seen on any screen even much more expensive models. All in all, a great TV and a great purchase.
Optical Block fails in 3 years & cost $1100 to replace DON'T BUT SONY by stellardefend ,Oct 19 '07
Pros: NONE Cons: Products fail in 3 years and are expensive to replace parts
I purchased a SONY KF60WE610 from circuit city in June 2004.I now see blue light leaking out of left front corner and along bottom of screen, Sony will not extend warranty on this part. This is a disgrace. DO NOT BUY SONY PRODUCTS - they fail in 3 years and are expensive to repair!
Pros: Picture size, clarity, ease of use. Cons: None yet, maybe cost of light when I have to replace it...
I bought my TV about six months ago from Electonics Expo. Epinions found the lowest price for me. I wasn't ready for a Grand Wega, but for the price, I had to get it. Shipped from the East Coast with no problems and when we got it hooked up, I was very impressed. I had the HD channels on for the first six months with the cable card, and everything worked great. I just didn't have enough time to enjoy it. I pick up channels that are not supposed to be broadcast over the cable line with the built in tuner.
Stunning picture. Great features . Bad bulb batch. by eewillia ,Feb 18 '04
Pros: Great picture and features. Cons: Sony addressing bad bulb issue with quick replacements.
Awesome picture and useful features! I'm lucky so far since my set performed beyond expectations. I have researched the bulb issue and usually the bulbs made by Philips fail within a couple of weeks so I believe mine is beyond the "infant mortality" phase with 3 months + 275 hours viewing. Sony is now shipping bulbs two-day FEDEX to anyone calling with bulb failure. The new vendor is OSRAM. LCD RPTVs have key features I like. No convergence or burn-in issues to worry about. If you want 4:3 with gray/black bars go ahead, no phosphors in LCDs-no problem. Sony has addressed the dead pixel problem with tighter quality controls. An ISF certified tech set up my system and did a line-by-line pixel check with no dead ones found. I recommend an ISF calibration to get the most from the set's improved black capability and adjust the gamma levels. Get the extended warranty and make sure it protects against dead pixels, the bulb, and damaged boards inside that short out or malfunction over time. They are very expensive!
I've had this TV for 18 months. The lamp just burned out (SONY says this is normal, although it is only about 2,000 hours). The problem (other than having to spend $220) is that you don't know right away it is the lamp and for some time the set just doesn't operate (it turn off automatically or won't come on). So by the time I realize it's the lamp, make some phone calls and finally get lamp ordered, I will not have had a TV for about 3 weeks. TOO LONG! Sony won't acknowledge any problem cause it lasted 18 months. I'm very disappointed. My DVD player bought at same time also broke. Great company! (not)
Sony Grand Wega LCD Projection TV by msmith10 ,Feb 21 '04
Pros: Attractive cabinet. Cons: Doesn't work.
The picture is beautiful. The set is stunning before it is even turned on. Unfortunately, that's the way you'll see it most of the time. After owning the $4000 TV for 3 weeks, it stopped turning on. A search of the internet revealed that this is a common problem with this model. I have not had satisfaction from Sony yet. The TV just will not turn on. DO NOT BUY THIS TV.
