Pros: No other digital voice recorder has so many features
Cons: not enough memory

Sony worked a lot to get the digital voice recorder with every imaginable function. No other device has as many as this one.

However, they are parsimonious about the memory. 16 MB, that's about 126 minutes in high quality mode or 45 minutes in stereo mode. What a shame. Forget about other quality modes.

High quality mode is not enough for a good voice recording. It's like a mp3 file recorded at 16 kb/sec. Something like a robot. However, noise is very well recorded, so that you won't understand what you recorded.

Pros: Decent sound and PC link ability.
Cons: Expensive, quality depends greatly on setting.

I never bought a recorder until MD's came out and now this. I never wanted to deal with tapes. Then I still waited until there was one that could connect to my computer.
I used it to record classes, then I was able to save each session on my computer and make a log of the semesters work. I would imagine this would apply just as much in the business world or other settings.
The sound was of decent quality, I found it depended a great deal on the location. If the person speaking was within 10 feet, the sound was nothing I would make a CD of, but was great for reference use.
Controls were fairly straight-forward, but it did take me a little time to learn the more advanced features.

I bought this to after taking back an ICD-P17 because I could not hear the lecture I was trying to record. This recorder gave me the quality I was looking for and I was able to record a lecture in a noisy lab environment.

It records in stereo, so the sound quality is much better and there is a lot less static and hissing. The mono recorders have to get all their sound from 1 microphone, so if someone moves a chair or slams a book, you cannot hear anything but that sound. With the stereo, you can hear the intonations and depth of the voice and this also helps reduce the effect of surrounding noise.

I like the Sony ST10 but it doesn't blow me away. I use it for recording college lectures. I think the LP mode is too scratchy and the ST mode sounds good but is too short...40 minutes or so. I use the SP mode and it has a good balance of quality and length. This recorder does pick up noise that "isnt really there" but its better than most. Fun to use!

I bought this unit after doing a lot of research and even going to a Sony outlet store. The low-end Sony digital recorders that do not have USB connection are pretty cheap. This unit has the USB to save voice files to the computer (comes with software) and also drop MP3 and WAV files onto the unit when it's connected to your computer. Makes for a feature-packed, great sounding voice recorder and a decent MP3 player to boot (though capacity is very limited when storing MP3's on it).
