Pros: WHEN IT WORKED NICE PICTURE AND GREAT SOUND.
Cons: ONLY LASTED ONE AND A HALF YEARS B-4 MINOR PROBLEMS
I PURCHASED THIS SET 3 YEARS AGO. 1ST YEAR WAS GOOD. TV HAD NICE PICTURE AND GREAT SOUND. 2ND YEAR HAD THE SERVICE TECH COME IN THREE TIMES TO ADJUST VARIOUS ANNOYING BUGS, BLUE LINES RUNNING HORIZONTALLY ACROSS SCREEN. T.V. WOULD SHUT OFF FOR NO ...
Pros: Great picture and sound, multiple inputs, easy to clean / maintain. Cons: Its large, by today's flat panel standards but so are the new rear projections.
I bought this TV brand new almost 5 years ago, I have never had a problem, and I have moved twice. Very dependable. I did my research before I purchased this television and it came highly rated. Great for watching movies and makes it hard to walk away from when it on, it grabs your attention. I had to remove the protective screen once to clear a cob web out but even that was easy.
Great picture and sound, there are front and rear inputs for multiple connections. Wheels make it easy to move for cleaning. Bottom line: Outstanding!
Pros: nice when brand new Cons: faulty part, too bulky for today's standard
We just had the same problem with the screen going blue and cutting off. Evidently, the blue CRT part went bad....and the set is not even 5 years old! We spent almost $3k on this set, including a 3yr warranty that is now conveniently expired. Now we are looking at having to spend $500 to repair. We bought a Sony because we wanted quality and thought this tv would last at least 10 years. The TV repairman said that he has had to replace so many Blue CRTs on these TVs that Sony should have recalled them. And there is no guarantee it won't happen again. Not to mention it is recommended that these sets are cleaned every 2 years (for $200 a cleaning). We have so much invested in this tv that we really don't know what to do. We will not buy another Sony product either!
This is the WORST TV I have ever HAD by hchauhan ,Sep 02 '06
Pros: NONE Cons: POOR QUALITY
After 1.5 years of using this TV, the picture went all blue, I had to replace the Picture Tubes (about $500) and now after another 1.5 year use of it, the screen has gone all blue............I am never EVER buying any more SONY TVs ever again after this extremely unpleasant experience
Good Reliable TV With A Very Good Picture by drizler ,Mar 15 '09
Pros: Great picture, Easy to control, reliable Cons: Prone to picture tubes drifting out of adjustment ( cure: see above link)
Nice tv over the 8 years we have had it. Like all reverse projectors it needs a darkened room to be appreciated but can be watched in full dayling easily. Easy to move around on its many rollers and the back comes off with just a few screws to clean the lenses and blow out dust from the componants occasionally. Set has excellent sound as well. The remote contains nearly all the hidden controls to set up and troubleshoot problems that arise.
These sets are prone to drifting out of electrical adjustment which results in very fine blue, red, or green lines across the screen usually visible only against a very dark back ground. The cure lies behind the front speaker panel and is very easy to do. Here is the link someone posted on how to repair. It is pictorial and very easy to use: http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html
I have installed a Hughes HD satillite receiver and oval dish with 3-LNBs. The dish was a bit of a challenge to set-up but the audible signal was a big help. Great picture on all of the channels and the HD broadcasts are excellent; I'll be glad when everything is HD. The sound system is fantastic. We only use our external sound system when watching movies. Totally satisfied.
