Pros: excellent image quality when properly adjusted; plenty of inputs; good feature set Cons: mediocre out-of-box picture; no VGA/IEEE1394 input; no settings memories for each input; heavy
Note: this model has been recently discontinued, and is replaced by two models: KV-34HS510 ( ...
Pros: Amazing image, great remote, solid design in every way
Cons: Weight
For my money, a direct view, tube TV is far superior to projection or even plasma (though they are getting better). And the Sony KV-34XBR800 Wega may be one of the best tube TVs ever.
I spent about a year looking for a TV for my home theater,...
Pros: I like the wide screen 16:9 format. Plenty of inputs. Cons: The setup menus are clumsy and not helpful. DEfinetly not for beginners
Well, I finally decided to get a sony tv. The picture in HD is excellent, but in regular cable it blows, no better, honestly than my 32" Phillips. So all this crap that sony spew about digital comb filter and DRC and blah, blah blah, is all crap. Its...
Pros: What a TV! We were looking for a new replacement and this is it. Cons: Heavy. Requires more than one to lift.
We have been left in the dust technology wise in recent years. I like to wait until a technology is well developed and proven before jumping in (I never owned 8-track, only cassettes, and went VHS over Beta). We wanted to replace our family TV with a...
Pros: Magnificent Picture Quality. What a
beautiful sight from DVD. Sound is great. Cons: Steady sound feature could be improved.
I've had my 34XBR for about a month now. It truly surpasses any expectations I had. This machine brings a new meaning to the word Home Theatre. I have digital cable
and the performance is truly spectacular. And thats right
out of the box. I...
Pros: Gorgeous picture, great on all inputs, 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i Cons: Extremely heavy, slightly complicated to set up, still not that much HDTV content
I couldn't be more pleased with this TV. The picture looks great in all video input modes, but suprise, suprise, looks best in 1080i/720p. The disadvantages are small compared to the overall picture. I highly recommend. 16:9 aspect ratio is awesome, just...
Pros: Picture in Picture, wireless headphones, nice picture Cons: Expensive
I bought this TV because it looked cool and it was SONY. The gray, or silver, color makes it look very modern. The picture in picture feature is great, especially for me because I can play video games on one screen and watch sports on the other. The...
Pros: Style is attractive Cons: Very poor customer service. DVD's in 16:9 have a 1" border at top and bottom
I returned this TV to Circuit City. Although the style is attractive and picture acceptable I wonder why anyone would spend lots of money just to watch the few shows on HDTV that are available in Time Warner market.
I just bought this TV last week, along with a Samsung sirts160 HDTV/HD DirecTV receiver, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the picture quality that the DVI interface between them is providing me. This TV has DVI, 2 HD-Component (1080i capable), multiple s-video and multiple composite video inputs, along with a front input, front controls, and a nice little memory stick port to view your pictures on.
If you are trying to decide between this TV and the xbr2, the xbr2 only has the ATSC tuner built in. Save your $1000 extra and buy this TV with a 3-600$ HDTV tuner that has DVI output.
I didn't rate the sound quality because I'm not using it's speakers.
Heavy set - get the... by johnt_dt3000 ,Nov 28 '02
Heavy set - get the Sony stand. Great picture quality. I've played a lot of widescreen DVDs and all but the anamorphic types have letterbox in 16:9, even in Full, Zoom, and Wide Zoom modes. Vertical sizing adjustment does not fix this problem as the range is too limited.
This set does not have horizontal sizing adjustment like its cousin the KD-34XBR2. No menu feature on the front of the set (only on the remote), instead a limited use Sony Memory Stick port. Menu set up is less pleasing than that found on the KD-34XBR2. I was told by the dealer this was the same set as the KD-34XBR2 but it is not - same tube, maybe. Local DigitalTV provider (TimeWarner) doesn't have HDTV in its digital line up yet so Satellite is the way to go for HDTV for now.

Great TV. Lot of options. Certainly a TV for the future. Great for a complete connectivity. Not compatible with other company's Memory stick except SONY. No one talks about TWIN VIEW and SCROLLING INDEX. These features are the best. Joy stick type Remote and opens up for Universal mode.
This TV was exactly what... by codyr_dt3000 ,Mar 15 '03
This TV was exactly what I wanted: a large widescreen tube, with excellent picture quality. I choose this tv for many reasons, first off I wanted a widescreen for watching movies. I also and a gamer so I wanted the largest TV without going projection so I wouldnt have to worry about 'burning in' images on the Screen. The sony has very good picture quality. I will be using my own surround, but the speakers on the tv are pretty good, and I believe it even has a 15w subwoofer. I also like the memory stick input for my digital camera. The only thing I could ask for is one more component imput, it has 2. I would recommend it, and am very happy.

Great picture quality with composite video signal.Does not have an HDTV tuner like the XBR2 but save the $1500 and get the same TV. Most cable and dish systems use their own anyway.Awesome TV just have someone else carry it in to the house ;)

Great picture, 4 different modes, 4:3, full, zoom, wide zoom so you can adjust the show you are watching and get rid of those bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Get a progressive scan DVD player to get the best picture (make sure you adjust DVD player to 16:9 ratio). has verticle adjustment but no horizontal (too bad). nice features.
