Pros: PROS: Excellent quality machine, easy to learn, records on most formats and plays most formats Cons: CONS: Recording time lag, so-so remote, no digital input ports, silver case
I bought this machine for about $300 at Best Buy after a 12% Reward Zone discount. This was close to what I paid for my first DVD player about 3 years ago. At this great price, I couldn't pass on this recorder. In fact, my last VHS recorder, purchased ...
Pros: Compatible with all DVD formats. Easy to use with smartlink capabilities Cons: No inbuilt hardrive. Not sold as multi regional
A stylish looking DVD Recorder from Sony very easy to use and set up with smartlink capabilities. Compatible with pretty much all DVD Formats including -R, +R, -RW, +RW which makes the machine very versatile. Not sold as multi regional but can be ...
Pros: Easy to use and many options. Cons: No internal hard drive.
DVD recorders are the thing to get! I wanted to update from using my VCR since the only thing I use it for like most people these days is to record television shows. If you ever rent or buy a movie, youll want it on a DVD so it will last ...
Pros: Works reliably within its design specs, no bugs encountered. Cons: Consumer-type DVD recorders have their limitations, and those for the US market even more.
The recorder does everything reliably that it is designed to do (although I haven't tried the special features of the DVD-RW/VR disks yet); and it should be noted that it has many more capabilities than are generally enumerated in spec lists on the ...
Pros: multi format, easy interface Cons: no FireWire, appears to be trashing disks
I previously entered a review regarding the Sony GX300 vs my Philips 985 of three years acquaintance. I had just received the Sony and recorded a half dozen disks. I like everything about it's look and feel, ease of use etc. It will impress most people ...
Pros: Records in both plus and minus formats. Finalizing and
record stop functions fairly quick. Cons: Lacks a built in RF Modulator. More expensive than most.
Takes longer to load disk.
This is it! The best DVD Recorder on the market. It's well made, easy to operate, and it's reliable. The finalized disks, the minus R's will even work on my old RCA DVD player I bought back in 1999, a temperamental unit that won't play the CD-R's ...
Pros: The component cable connection and Progressive mode equals a great picture. Cons: No Zoom TV feature and no HDMI connection.
My old Sharp VCR was making enough noise to wake the dead so I decided to buy a DVD Recorder. Got the Sony RDR-GX300 because I have a Sony TV that I really like and a Sony universal remote that runs all the components in my system. Did not want to take ...
Pros: High Sony quality, tons of nice features Cons: Menus are not very creative, no ILink port
I just bought this Sony RDR-GX300 DVD Recorder / Player for Christmas and that made my Holiday well worth it. This recorder is easy to hook up for an intermediate user and easy to setup. Just follow the quick guide and you're up and running in no time. ...
Pros: Looks nice sitting on the shelf. Cons: Does not work for very long. Its Disc Error on all Discs.
I purchased the Sony GX 300 and it worked for a little while. I didn't even use it that much. I started getting Disc Error all the time. When it did play a rental or purchased DVD it would skip or hang up. But towards the end it would not play anything I put into it. "Disc Error". You would think for the money I spent on this unit that it would last for more than a year. Now its just a door stop. I am really disappointed in Sony. I thought they made better products.
Pros: If it keeps working, it's great. Cons: but it won't
You will sing its praises as others have for about a year then you will try to find out why it won't recognize its own dvd-rw or dvd+rw discs. It will format and record just fine but once you remove the disc, you will never have luck getting it to play again. You lose your data and Sony won't even let you cry on their shoulder. It will cost more to repair the problem than what you paid originally.
Sony seems to have seen better days (C-1300 problems) by liobhan ,Oct 15 '05
Pros: Good feature set, fair ease of use. Cons: Terrible firmware design, terrible product reliability.
I purchased a brand new Sony RDR-GX300 five weeks ago and it started getting C-1300 errors when I tried to record a disk after around 10 recordings. When I called Sony Repair, they told me to reboot the machine by unplugging it for an hour and trying again, which did nothing except erase all the settings I'd spent the better part of an hour entering in the first place.
I was then told that the units would sometimes get stuck on an error reading and that it had to be reset in this same way each and every time.
This seems like incredibly bad software design to me, not to mention hardware which goes south in infancy. Reading about this problem on the Web, I notice that it's a common complaint for Sony DVD recorders, with many frustrated stories by users just like me.
Without the Remote it it useless by tonya98125 ,Oct 27 '07
Pros: Works with all functions with the remote (no pause on the record though) Cons: Without the remote it is useless.
I have both the RDR-GX300 DVDR and the RM-AV3000 Sony Universal Remote and they do not work together. When I purchased the RDR-GX300 it was in good working order but within three months the remote died. I purchased a very expensive Sony Universal Remote,RM-AV3000, to replace the original and it is not or doesn't seem compatible and because the original remote doesn't work any longer I do not have the option of "learning" the signals to program the new remote. Without the remote the unit is nearly impossible to use as a DVR, but it still works a a DVD but without FFWRD and RWND. I will amend this post if anyone can tell me haw to get the RM-AV300 to work with the the RDR-GX300, but unless they are both working, it give this machine a thumbs down.
Hard to understand but once you do you will love it by nightimike ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Easy to format and finalize disk. No pixelation problem detected. good audio. Cons: Instructions a little vauge. Keep them handy. Remote not backlit.
As I said above "Just like a spouse" Records all stated formats without making coasters once you understand it. The instructions while much better than others are still lacking for newbes. It took me several PATIENT hours to hook up audio amps tv, sat. and vcr. Then get it to do what you want when you want. It's all there you just have to think about it. Records beautifull. Picture even good at SLP off SAT.
Pros: Good quality when it works Cons: Won't use many discs but doesn't tell you until its too late. Poor customer support.
Have owned my GX300 and VX500 units for several years. Got in on ground floor while they were sky high. Find I can only reuse RW discs even Sony a max of five times and find units very sensitive to discs. Verbatum and Office Depot brands are near useless and the latest flap has been with Memorex 16X DVD-R Discs which just don't work. Units accept the disc and let you set timer and then when it is tried to replay gives you the turkey notice. Sony, Circuit City, an Memorex are all useless in helping with these issues. Next time I'll buy Lite-On or the cheapesst of the cheapest. My preference has been quality: Mitsibuishi, Sony and Panosonic and with $850 worth of Sony DVR recorders and another $2000 worth of Sony TV's Sony has slipped into the gutter for me. Concern in addition to inconsistent performance is non existant customer support.
