Pros: Cheap, unobtrusive, good sound, most big boxes have them Cons: A tad light in the bass and limited imaging, but forgiveable for the price.
A Little History This great little speaker is used as the center channel in a newly installed 6.1 system running off a Sony STR-DE598. The front channels are handled by some S

Pros: Very decent sound quality, inexpensive, good looking Cons: Lows can get a little loose, spring clip wire connector
I bought SONY SS-CN550H Center Channel speaker for my home office, and it was an obvious choice for me, since I already had a pair of SONY SS-MF550H main speakers there. This center channel speaker matches the rest of the SONYs SS series perfectly, ...
Pros: Beautiful sound for the price. Clear vocals and instruments (from electric guitars to violins. Cons: Wish it had binding posts. Can be expensive at many stores.
Now first, let me explain that I'm an audiophile in progress. And I am extremely cheap at times. Heck, I'll buy KLH speakers if the price is right. If nothing else, they make great 20 dollar door stops, but voice matching is difficult when you mix ...
Pros: Nice looking speaker, solid sound for the price Cons: none
I'm a person who cares about sound but has a small wallet. I don't see any reason to pay alot of money for speakers in my 12 x 15 apartment living room. I have had sony products in the past including the pc I'm using to write this review and have not ...
Pros: Inexpensive, great sound Cons: A little weak on the bass.
Excellent center speaker. You won't find a better one at this price. I have it hooked to my surround sound and it works great. You should definitely have a sub though, this unit just can't put out the bass by itself.
Excellent Inexpensive Speaker by epiedad ,Jan 28 '05
Pros: Great sound quality Cons: None
Bought this to replace a Bose satellite that I was using as a center speaker. What a difference...I can now understand all the dialogue unlike before when it was muddled. You cannot beat this speaker for the price. As soon as I can afford better speakers, I will replace the other four to match this one.
The Sony SS-CN550H - Nice Center Channel! by robmlisanti ,Jan 12 '06
Pros: Nice sound, Looks good with modern TV's. Cons: Only has speaker clips, no 5 way?
The Sony SS-CN550H from the moment I hooked up this speaker I was impressed. The Highs and Mids are smooth and precise.
The quality of this speaker is up there with Polk. I have owned PSB and Polk and this center is in that league.
I also own the Sony SS-MF550H Tower speakers and the Sony MB-150 surround bookshelf speakers, all together they sound great! I also noticed that it sounds better the more I break it in. I bought this product because I like Sony and have trusted Sony, I love the price point I paid $89.00 which is unheard of for a decent center channel speaker.
Make sure you use good 12-14 gauge speaker wire ( Like Monster ).
Pros: Great voice reproduction. Good lows and highs. Cons: No binding posts. I have them sitting on double sided foam tape.
Bought this speaker at Fry's when I got my new Sony receiver. The price was great and it felt durable. I have it sitting ontop of my TV now and I've been blasting it with DVD's, xbox, and my directv -- All connected via Sony digital surround. The voice is clear and reproduction is excellent. Voices are deep and clear when they need to be. Highs are crisp and blend in with my infinity side speakers. Great speaker for the price. I cannot imagine myself buying another speaker, even if I have more money.
Pros: Sharp sound, look, extended response, and price. Cons: None for me!
I'm not a professional audio expert or a person who will spend enough money on his stereo so that I could've bought a boat instead, just an average joe looking for quality sound at a low price. With this speaker, I think I've achieved this goal.
When I went to the store I was actually kind of surprised at the size of some of these center channels, and not just inches, but price too. Enough to make a decent dent in my wallet. So I looked at the specs on this Sony and it seemed good. I gave it a try and fell in love. It got enough bass for dialogue and effects and the nano-fine tweeter makes things sound really sharp, be it drums, Homer Simpson, or a huge explosion.
What I really like though is the silver front. It matches almost any new TV today as black is going out. The extended frequency response is also a plus for DVD's and, because I plan to upgrade my receiver later for high definition audio, great for SACD's and DVD audio disks.
