Pros: Ease of setup, number of features, appearance, low power consumption. Cons: Runs hot while providing minimal pure power to speakers.
Sometime in the early 21st century, I decided to abandon quadrophonics and upgrade to surround sound. So out with the rocks and sticks that made up the old amp, and in with the Sony STR-DE595. Turns out I took a step down. Let me ...

Pros: Simple to use system with high power. Good musicality and surround sound. Looks Cool. Cons: Limited features (but does the job), Runs quite hot, push-in speaker posts.
I bought this amp as I needed a 100W per channel receiver to power my new Wharfedale Movie star 60 speaker system. It was a tough decision as there are many products at this price, all with different specs. Once I got it home, I was slightly disappo ...

Pros: cheap
ez to set up Cons: 100w? No way.
Runs hot. REALLY hot - into 4 ohm speakers.
I had this item for 5 years. I was happy with it until I found some killer Cerwin Vega and Klipsch speakers to upgrade my home theater. I thought it sounded great through JBL N38's and Wharfedale surrounds. When I hooked up the new speakers it seems a ...

Now disappointed

Pros: Good sound. Cons: Short life!
I was very happy with this unit until today - good sound and not over-sized. Then, turning it on this morning, dead silence! The machine is barely three and half years old! It may be premature on my part, but if this is typical of Sony, then I'm through with it as a brand!

Sony STR-DE595 5.1 Good for Beginners!
by robmlisanti ,Jan 12 '06
Pros: Ease of use, Nice looking, not oversized! Cons: Could use more power, Better speaker connections
The STR-DE595 is a decent product from Sony , who I trust since I own alot of products from them.
I have had this receiver now for 3 yrs, and I still love it,
The only gripe I really have is maybe I wish it had a little more power for louder cleaner sound, but otherwise I really enjoy my receiver. I found the remote easy to use,I like the menu and the little Blue light that comes on to let you know when you are decoding in 5.1 surround. I have all of the Sony SS-550h, CN-550, MB-150 speakers and they all sound great with the receiver. I am using Monster cables and speaker wires. all and all it's a good product, the only gripe I have besides more power is the lack of better speaker connections.
