When my brother graduated from college this summer, he had to give up the laptop that the school had provided him. And so we embarked on a mission to find the best on the market. I consulted my uncle in Osaka to see what top-secret things Japan had in ...
Pros: Centrino, XBRITE screen, speaker placement, camera, battery life, ultralight, magnesium casing, style, overall great design Cons: EXPENSIVE$, Gets hotter than expected, optical drive seems weak, sony support has bad name
This notebook is amazing. I just received it yesterday and have nothing but praise. The scre ...
Pros: Design and "I Want to Look Cool @ Starbucks" factors, Ultrabrite screen Cons: No video output for presentations, pricey, Hard to find XP pro version
Well, I live in Nepal and visit here once a summer, so what to I do, I drop my laptop and had to go ...
Pros: Great screen, compact size, nice design. Cons: Pricey related to other similar sub notebooks, start up a little slow, camera gimmicky
Very compact and well designed. Camera feature gimmicky and have never really used it. Picture quality from camera is grainy and pictures generated fair at best. Start up is a little slow which is apparent relevant to it's processor speed. Battery life averages in the 4hr range. Screen on battery is fair with obvious best output with ac plugged in. Screen is very clear with option to zoom in to make the small screen display text and programs at a more acceptable size. Wireless 802.11b integrated has worked fine for me. The touch pad reacts well but I use a mouse with the port. Little disappointed with the new technology of the TR3A already out for the same price, but what can you do.
BEST DAMN LAPTOP I'VE EVER OWNED!!! by drh93 ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Long life battery, wireless LAN, memory stick, 512 RAM lightweight, beautiful screen, dvd/cdrw built in. Cons: No microsoft office pre loaded.
After gone from a 486/50 NEC 10 years ago to a Dell Latitude 15" Screen, I found that I couldn't even open the darn thing on a plane. Then I found the TR-1. Sony figured it out for the traveling businessman. This beauty is a small as a book, no more wheeling my laptop around airports, I just throw this in my briefcase and I am moving. The wireless LAN and memory stick are awesome additions that I love since I own many Sony Digital Cameras and swapping files with a memory stick is fast and effective. The battery life is a little less than advertised, but with a full charge, I can work on Excel Spreadsheets forever, but watching a movie once is about it. Why it doesn't come with Microsoft Office is a crime, when you look at the price. (another $500 for me) However, it is the best buy I have made in year. I hope you like it.
I bought this last summer for over 2k. Its very light and compact and has a very bright screen. This machine is very very fragile. I have sent it in twice for repairs. The machine is excellent for frequent travellers. Its light and functional.
My only warnings for you. IS that the Sony tech support is NON EXISTENT. Its absolutely terrible. It took me 4 calls to get a box to send the machine to them. Then takes a min. of 10 days to get machine repaired. I have faxed them my proof of purchase twice and included it twice with my repairs. There is zero communication between the call center in India and the numnuts in California.
If I had to go back and make the choice all over again. I would have chosen an IBM X40 or something else. IBM blows sony completely out of the water.
Pros: everything in one piece: internal speakers, CD writer.
It's the smallest computer there is. Cons: The outside metal cover gets rather easily scratched. Watch it. For small fingered people.
It's the smallest computer there is. The size of two PDAs. Why use a PDA?
And you can get used to the screen (I am 52 with not too much presbyopia). Plus, you can change the size of the letters.
I just throw it in my bag and go everywhere.
It's for people with small fingers, females really. Because the keyboard is smaller, a touch typist makes mistakes. But the ease of carrying it around overrides that for me.
Pros: screen, speed.portability, versatility Cons: no video out and my screen cracked after 4 weeks
I was ecstatic when i got it. What a little wonder. Very good performance, ultra portability, great quality screen and handy wireless connectivity. Until four weeks after I bought it a small crack in the LCD appeared and i now find myself bumped to Sony service by circuit city Miami who claim no responsibility. I am royally angry with it and now have to arrange for repairs in California whilst I live outside of the states. WAIT TO BUY AND SEE IF MY PROBLEM IS A BIGGER PROBLEM FOR THIS NEW VAIO!!!
