Pros: Beautiful screen, excellent performance, extremely portable, reasonably priced. Cons: Software disks need to be included with unit, better online support needed.
I just picked this laptop the other day at the local Best Buy. I found it had specs similar to other larger less mobile units & the cost was not that much more for its smaller size. At 4.5 lbs and about a 12"x12" footprint, it is amazing so many features ...
Pros: Excellent little machine, fast, bright display, quality built. Cons: None. After 4 months of daily use I have no complaints.
I purchased my V-505 at Best Buys in Sept '03 for $995. I was reluctant to get a Celeron processor, but after 4 months of use I find little difference with it compared to my Sony desktop P-4 for everyday normal usage eg: web surfing, Excel, Word, etc. ...
Pros: none with the quality Cons: everything, from service to product helps

Great machine with only usual limits by mrmike33 ,Dec 24 '03
Pros: size, screen, hw cfg, price I got Cons: mousepad quirky, battery life only ok
Just bought a V505BX for $795.00 (yea, great edal I know) at a local CompUSA. It was a demo machine but in mint condition.
Low down:
+great overall machnie (feats, screen, etc.)
+price (for me)
-I am not a mousepad fan, and this one seems not as reliable as the dell laptop I use
-battery is only about 3 hrs
-no standard PS/2 mouse connector (gotta use USB)
Pros: beautiful, light Cons: you never know when it is gonna die
I bought my sony vaio pcg v505bx 2 years ago, and paid almost 2000 dollars. Last week, It just died on me, no power getting in at all. I had a service center check it for me, and they told me the motherboard had some problems. Because sony had everything combined in motherboard, there is no way to fix it but to replace the whole motherboard. Sony asks for $525 for a motherboard, plus labor fee required by the service center, it will be over $700.
Of course, my warranty has expired. Normally, they only give 1 year warranty.
Additionally, the guy from service center said he had seen a lot of sony vaio computers have this problem with motherboard, and there is no way to deal with it.
so, buy sony computer only if you have too much money to burn.
