My Dream Refrigerator

by robin7333 , Apr 12 '01
Pros: shallow shelves make things easy to reach, well built, efficient
Cons: inconvenient to clean the coils, so burning up the motor is easy to do
I purchased this refrigerator because it fit into my large but narrow kitchen without protruding into the kitchen as most refrigerators do. It has far more shallow shelves. Mine is actually built in. We have a full-size companion freezer that sits...

SubZeros are pretty cool

by patrickthickey , Dec 12 '00
Pros: quality, performance, appearance
Cons: price
OK, so the title is lame.

We own the SubZero 601R and 601F standalone refrig and freezers with the stainless steel fronts. These are impressive machines from an appearance and engineering standpoint.

The differences between the...

INDUSTRIAL SIZE perfection

by ndgolfr , Nov 05 '99
Pros: Huge, plenty of room, nice looks
Cons: Have to wait for seal to reopen
There just simply isnt a betters set of refridgerators and freezers on the planet than the sub-zero one. We use a full size set side swinging door. We have them placed apart from each other.

They fit right into our kitchen with the wood...

Vegetable crisper, total failure
by aich ,Aug 11 '07
Pros: shallowness of this unit makes it easy to reach for things
Cons: poor customer service, before buying ask how humidity will affect your unit...
We just purchased this model, and I am having the worst nightmare considering the price I paid for it. The glass shelf that sits on top of the vegetable crisper drawer pools beads of water, due to condensation, and since it is supposed to make a tight seal, the water has nowhere to go but drip on the greens. My vegetables do not last more than a few days, and let's not talk about berries. I spoke to a technician and had one of their repair service person come to the house, he was puzzled but did not offer much explanation except that it was due to the weather. Our house is air-conditioned, so this explanation is totally bogus in my opinion. I think there is a design defect in this model, I used to have a subzero with bottom freezer drawers and was very satisfied with the unit because the vegetable crisper drawer had a humidity control which this one does not. I think Subzero needs to rethink their design, just as they did with their freezer drawers.....

Love it, hate it
by rsiakel ,Sep 04 '06
Pros: Great to design around and work out of.
Cons: Short life span. These are not our parents Maytags...
We have the side by side Sub Zero refrigerator and freezer. We love the style and working out of them WHEN THEY ARE WORKING. Both units are less than 5 years old and we have just experienced our 2nd failure of the refrigerator and had one on the freezer. They’re great when they work, but not very durable. And given the fact that we had our kitchen cabinets designed around them, it’s like have in life sentence. I may bit the bullet and look at GE.

Pros: Good on paper
Cons: numerous service calls
I stumbled across this site because I am looking to replace my sub zero 601R. On paper it is exactly what I wanted; 36", shallow for good organization, able to be integrated with a cabinet panel and all refrigerator. However, it is unquestionably my most regrettable kitchen appliance purchase ever! It has required service calls 10+ times in 7 yrs. Often, the factory authorized techs were baffled by the varied problems presented by this unit. Also, sub zero only allows 2 factory authorized reps in my area code of over a million people. I will never buy a sub zero again.
