I had this oven for two years and when it works, it works well. However, I have been wrestling with computer fault codes for months now. The authorized service is slow, not very knowledgeable and failed to properly diagnose and fix the problems. I had to wait 2 weeks for a service appointment with my oven out - not the high-end experience I expected when I bought the oven.

I am expecting my fourth service call for the replacement of the computer - having poured hundreds of dollars and many hours into making a relatively new oven work!

Pros: Looks Great, fairly easy to use touch screen
Cons: Cooling / Exhaust fans can get noisy even after replacement

I've owned the Thermador C302U Double Oven since May 2001.
Since that time there have been 4 service calls for the doors not closing properly. Each time new hinges were needed and /or heavier duty hinges installed.
The latest and 5th service call was for the lower over, that is rarely used except for the holidays, due a sensor fault that required me to call Thermador direct to find out what the "Fault Code" meant. It was the sensor and the cooling fan and motor that needed replaced after approx. 8-10 uses. This happened in March 2003 when the unit was less than 2 years old, (Warranty is only 12 months), Customer service was initially sounding helpful until the service estimate came in over $500. It's taken 6 months and e-mails and far up as Franz Bosshard the Pres./CEO to get a response.
For those of you researching the purchase of a high-end appliance be sure to check warranties.
Also based on price and my not so pleasant experience, I'd suggest researching GE products. Cost is considerably less and you can still get the same function and looks.

Pros: Very nice looking from the outside.
Cons: Basically worthless as a baking oven-doesn't regulate temperature with any consistancy.

I thought Thermador was a top-notch brand and well built/engineered. The price I paid should've guaranteed as much. I bake a lot and both ovens have been highly problematic. I've had the computer mother board replaced three times and racked up over a thousand dollars in repair bills. Every time there's a power outage the bottom oven locks shut and it's a $200+ fee to have a repairman out. It's always something new-wasn't wired properly at the factory, a short here, a failure there-ad nauseum. I would never again buy anything made by them. If you're going to run an appliance via computer control at least equip it with a quality computer part. I haven't been able to use my lower oven for quite a while-all I get are Error Codes when I try to turn it on. Frankly it's a piece of trash-unfortunately it's built into my kitchen.

Pros: The oven has many features. It also has a very sleek look to it.
Cons: Besides the controller problem, the temperature calibration seems to be off. Customer sevice terrible.

Less than two years ago, I had to replace the computer controller for this oven, at a cost of $294, and now the exact same problem has re-occurred. Yet, the manufacturer not only refuses to acknowledge the defect, but the customer service representative just gives you the runaround. He immediately tried to find a way out of taking any responsibility for an obvious defect, and will not even let you speak to his supervisor or understand the problem. They act as if it is just your tough luck, assuming you have no recourse but to continue spending several hundred dollars a year to replace their defective part.

The problem at fault is that the bake cycle stops working; it will not reach more than 100°, but the broil cycle works fine, indicating that it is a controller malfunction.

Pros: Looks great
Cons: Preheating takes forever.

I built a very large home with a large number of appliances - this oven is absolutely terrible. The oven takes 25 minutes to heat up to cook a pizza.

Also - the buttons are not easy to use. I would not recommend this product - we had 3 service calls and we never got it working right. We have had it 4 years - we will replace with something else !

Pros: Attractive stainless steel exterior Basic operation is good (for an electric oven)

While this is an attractive unit that performs well in normal use it appears to have a serious design flaw in the reliability of its computer display - which fails within a few years from overheating. This was confirmed by the technician that repaired by unit as being a widespread problem - after presenting me with a $350 repair bill.

Pros: Cooks well and looks great
Cons: Generic problem with computer display, expensive to fix, Thermador fails to recognize issue.

Ovens cook well and look great. However, the display is flawed and has generic problem that Thermador refuses to acknowledge. The display LED loses its brightness with time until it diminishes completely. I know personally of three other units with exactly the same issue.

Pros: I cannot recommend it!!!
Cons: Thermador refused to pay labor costs to fix it,aprox $1,250.00 Oven only 4 years old!

The lining cracked a few months after we installed it,the self cleaning feature is horrible,and my glass door cracked.Food gets in between the inner and outer glass doors and you have to get a technician to clean it for you,and Thermador does not stand behind their products.Their gas stove is a lemon as well.I would never buy their products again!!
