Good but not necessary
by doochin ,May 03 '06
Pros: Looks GREAT, sounds good, and more options (can add more accesories) Cons: Sound not as impressive as the Cambridge Soundwork radios.
I recently purchased the Tivoli Model 3 along with its accesories (stereo speaker and subwoofer) because I wanted a good sounding table radio. My experience with the Soundworks Cambridge Model 88 radio was what initially drew me to this machine (Henry Kloss is credited for the invention of both these machines). I prefer the sound out of the Model 88, however, asethatically this machine is hands down a better choice, which my wife appreciates. The addition of the soundwoofer makes a difference (especially listening to POP music) however, I am not sure if it's worth the full retail price (luckly I got mine on sale). Bottomline, if you want a small radio that will impress you with its sound get the radio from Cambridge Soundworks (I don't think they make the Modell 88 anymore but something similar) but for a combination of good sound and good looks this should definitely something to consider.

Tivoli Subwoofer, not noticeable until I turn it off
by hardin ,Jan 08 '04
Pros: Easy set up, looks nice, fills room with previously un-missed bass. Cons: Doesn't add a big, noticeable booming sound (which may actually be in the "pro" catagory).
I got the Tivoli Model 2 for Christmas, then a week later got the Subwoofer. When I plugged it in and turned it on, I didn't really notice any difference. I couldn't really hear anything out of the subwoofer itself. After turning it off, however, I definitely noticed an 'emptiness' in the room. The model 2 stereo set up in the kitchen sounded fine without it, but now I'd say it sounds (feels) better with the subwoofer. The Model 2 set up in the living room sounded lost (but still great), so I beleive the subwoofer would really work better in there. I have not moved the entire system back into the living room yet. I'd say the subwoofer is worth it, but if you are satisfied with the Tivoli 1 or 2 sound right now, it's not going to make a BIG difference. If the sound seems empty, then go for it.
