Pros: Good Picture, Bookmark Memory, Progressive Scan, Price Cons: Audio Could Be Better
Summary Intro: This is probably one of the best DVD players under $100. You can find several models at Wal-Mart or Target, but I doubt any of them are name brand. The Toshiba SD-3950 provides a lot of value for such a low price. It ...
Pros: Less fussy than the Sony, easier to set up, actually works as advertise! Cons: Remote buttons are not intuitive. Remote TOO BIG.
The Sony DVD player I bought did not meet my expectations, and so I checked out other DVD players in the same playing field. The SD3950 stacked up with one advantage: price. It is 50 bucks less than the Sony 725P! Of course, at $79.99, I figured I co ...
Pros: Easy to use and setup, not very expensive Cons: Not as good as the DVP-NS425P in removing artifacts
Finding a DVD player for cheap is not hard to do, but with that cheap price comes a cheap product. Finding an inexpensive DVD player with enough features to make most happy is not necessarily that easy of a task either. Toshiba has come up with a ...
Pros: Good features for the price. Cons: Difficult menus.
From reading what others have written about this DVD player, you would think that this is a cheap, low quality player. While it is not top of the line, I believe it is one of the best Toshiba SD3950 is a very good DVD player. I received this DVD ...
Pros: Features & cost Cons: Common problem - "no disc". Hard to watch a DVD with this problem.
Our Toshiba 3950, purchased from Best Buy, broke after very light use within 3 months. The machine one day simply refused to recognize when a DVD was inserted into the machine. The LED message on the machine said "no disc". So, we called Toshiba. ...
Pros: Basic functions work as intuitively expected. Cons: The controls locked up twice, so I returned it.
I wanted a less than $100 DVD player, and at least three separate sales associates at Best Buy steered me to this player given my wish list. Besides budget, I thought I may want progressive scan capability in the future, I wanted a few other formats ...
Great player for recorded DVD's by keithtyger ,Mar 03 '04
Pros: 1. Dialogue enhancer
2. Black adjustment
3. DVD+R support
4. Zoom for letterbox Cons: None
This player is excellent for playing DVDXCOPY dvd's, I use DVD+R. No skips, or stutters. Plays everything my previous samsung and magnavox did not, and at 45 bucks open box. Seems to be sturdy, smaller than my samsung yet heavier. The black adjustment is awesome, as well as the dialogue enhancer. I can actually here the words in action movies without turning the center channel apeaker all the way up. As for units not working when bought new, all brands have this in some form or another, save your packaging and return. That's why I only buy from stores that offer 30 day returns. I also read on some forums that it does not like excessive heat. Keep it ventilated.
Great machine if it would only play. by pwake ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: Lots of features for the money. Cons: Glitch in the machine hinders usability.
We bought this DVD player based on its very good set of features for the relatively low price price. Unfortunately, although it worked out of the box initially, within a couple of days it was frequently locking up. It wouldn't play, the disc tray wouldn't open, it would just freeze after turning it on and loading a DVD. Toshiba said it needed to be unplugged for five minutes, and then it would reset itself and would work. This proved to be true. However, it is quite annoying. Perhaps not every machine does this, but enough do that Toshiba knew of the problem. Save your packaging so you can return it if you have that problem (I wish we had). If your machine doesn't have that problem, then as the first review indicates there's a lot of machine here for the money.
Toshiba 3950 not worth owning by nomorejapcrap ,Feb 17 '04
Pros: May be good for a one-time use in skeet shooting. Cons: Has playability issues and the resulting lag-effect renders
the movie unwatchable.
Numerous DVD's lag while watching them. This is an intermittent problem that in my humble opinion renders
the movie/DVD as totally unwatchable. The lagging is
very very irritating and the idea is to enjoy a movie
and not to be irritated. So what good is it?
I even brought the unit back and exchanged it and I still
have the lagging problem.
When using an older non-progressive scan Toshiba unit all the movies that lagged on the SD-3950 played perfectly.
Pros: Everything/ Love the fact that it communicates with surround sound system Cons: Lost the remote
I have owned my Toshiba SD3950 for 3 or 4 years now and couldn't be happier. The only problem I have had was loosing remote but figured out how to whatch movies without it. This machine has outlasted a pioneer my wife won which ended up stopping movies and shutting off.
