Excellent value notebook
by ozebaz ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Good value, great screen Cons: No floppy drive or Toshiba floppy port, only WinXP Home.
This is my 4th notebook, & by far the best in performance & value. I'd seen an earlier version of the 5205 in Office Depot in Canada, where it sold for C$3000, a bit less than the US$2200 when exchange rates were taken into account. But what impressed me most was the fantastic, yes, fantastic screen! Sharp, bright & clear I began to search for other manufacturers products with UXGA screens, & found that Sony sold one, but for a lot of money. As I also wanted a remotely controlled CD player (useable without booting the PC) I was limited, but found to my surprise, that Toshiba sold the 5205-S119 direct for US$1400. No, it didn't have the DVD burner, nor the TV tuner with Win Media Centre, but who wants to watch TV on a computer anyway? Not me. So, although the CPU at 2.2Ghz is not state of the art, it's plenty fast enough for me & has lots of ports. But a Toshiba floppy drive from a Portege won't be useable as there is only the USB ports for that purpose.
