Pros: Good price/value, clear 15" screen, quick, dependable, 2 USB ports Cons: Occasional jumpiness of TouchPad
We're primarily loyal fans of Micron computers, but when it came time to getting my wife her long-awaited laptop computer, we forced ourselves to look around (largely due to cost considerations) and ran across many positive reviews (and a fortuitous price ...

Excellent value for the price by d2002 ,Aug 30 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, decent hardware, reliable, CD burner Cons: Needed memory upgrade, cooling fan issue, no internal floppy
While not the latest and greatest laptop, it is certainly an excellent value. As long as you don't play high-end games or use it as a server, it should serve you well for most of your day to day computing needs.
The 15 inch screen is bright and does well with graphics and most games. The speakers won't replace your stereo system, but for playing high volume speakers its best to use headphones anyway. The keyboard and touchpad are good. Battery life is decent-- the power saving options help.
The CD-RW and DVD have been a pleasure to use. There are a variety of ports (1 serial, 1 parallel, 2 USB, etc), card slots, internal modem, and an ethernet port. The RAM will likely need upgrading to run any Windows OS beyond 95.
About a year after purchasing the laptop, the cooling fan started to make strange noises; I expect it to give out soon, but apparently cooling fan issues are not unique to Toshibas.
Overall, I would certainly purchase this model again. I don't want to go back to bulky desktops after my very positive experience with Toshiba.
