Pros: Boots up fast
Graphics are good
Built in wireless very sensitive and responsive Cons: Must play with tilting screen to see dark colors
I needed a laptop to do school work on, something I could carry around campus to program, use for email, store my work files in and transport, etc. After about a month now, I don't even use my desktop machine anymore! This baby rocks. It can be a bit ...
Pros: large screen, top of the line processor, long battery life. Cons: many cheaper pentium 4 can surpass the 311's performance.
The S311 is very adequate in its performance and I would say it is worth the 1250 price tag. There are cheaper but with the pentium m you get a top of the line processor. I am mobile with mine and the excellent battery life of 3 hrs is necessary. the screen is very life like, but I would have preffered the Nvidia sound that come with HP. The 60 GB hard drive was about 56 GB. I can live with that and the processor rates a 1.6 opposed to the advertised 1.5 and that makes this a top linecomputer in my book. Great investment and easy to operate.
Pros: Great screen for modest price. DVDs play full screen with no problems. Long battery life. Cons: Missing a 3 year fix anything warrantee. For free. Risk of purchase was daunting.
This is my first laptop after 3 desktops and 20 years as a computer programmer...and 4 months of shopping around. After 2 months of use I feel it completely replaces my desktop in internet access and screen enjoyment. My tests with a new battery shows 4.2 hours of straight internet use and 3 hours plus playing a DVD. And I'm writing this via a free wireless hotspot in a coffee shop ! And the touchpad is so fantastic that although I bought a mouse, I don't use it. (I recommend deactivating the Toshiba overlay for the touchpad though and tweaking the touch sensitivity and speed of the touchpad to your taste however.) And after rebates and taxes, about $1000 total new. For a new user to XP, I've found between Toshiba and Microsoft, this is a really well explained, plug and play product. Good job !
