CoPilot Pocket PC 4 is the ultimate copilot

by tochriste , Jul 15 '03
Pros: Both speech and written directions, points of interest, and works quite well
Cons: Pricey.
After reviewing many GPS hardware and software products, I settled on the CoPilot Live Pocket PC 4. ...

Don't buy CoPilot 2003

by solakian , Jun 09 '03
Pros: Great features, Easy to use, Ability to reroute on the fly
Cons: Awful support, Expensive
I've been a registered CoPilot user for 4 years. I have purchased every annual upgrade as they became available. The product performs very well and has features that can't be found on any other product. However, I believe no amount of good features...

Steer clear
by dangerous2 ,Nov 10 '06
Pros: The various modes that can be used are very handy such as walking mode.
Cons: The technical service is lousy.
Co-pilot has never worked properly with my Ipaq 3970 since the day i bought it. I have had the jacket swapped out 3 times and upgraded the software. Alk tech support have never told me exactly what the problem is because they don't know. I have now purchased a Garmin unit for my motorcycle which works fine. My advice would be don't by this product.

CoPilot 5 - still crap
by disabati ,Aug 13 '04
Pros: Works only fair if you can get it running.
Cons: Most will struggle with the installation and likely give up.
Been trying their product on a Pocket PC-PDA for the past 2 years. They still can't get it right. I'm a software engineer and for a company to get so close but miss the target by so far is inexcusable. With the right software development manager, they'd have a winner.

Until then, sorry, I still can't recommend it. It's downright frustratating and ALK's customer support is lousy.

By the way, you can't hear the voice commands hardly at all.

CoPilot 5 for Australia
by gpsjohn ,Apr 09 '05
Pros: It will most likey get you to your destination.
Cons: Very poor product. Some aspect easy, others difficult, other totaly missing.
The poor pretender!
Its not there. After all the hype about the new V5....very poor product, and basically a waste of money when compared to other comparitive products.

Map displays are the worst - blan and no real substance.
Hardly any use of colour and graphics for landmarks etc.
Intersections are so full of little diamond icons, you'd think your screen is about to de-pixel!
Absolute min display of steet names - so wonder why they even have a Navigation mode - it's meaningless.
Still trying to get sound to work on pocket pc!
After using a variety of other products in the past 4 years, this is the biggest dissapointment.

When it comes to GPS Copilot is the King
by jeyan ,Oct 13 '03
Pros: Quick Locking, Clear screen navigation, Driver/Passenger mode, Voice recognition and navigation.
Cons: Price!
Among all those cheap navigations available in the market that don’t even lock two satellites at a time, Travroute blows out all the competitions and is beyond all your expectations. Definitely the best I've ever seen and it locks within seconds to a bunch of sats. The detour feature is awesome and very helpful. The screen is very clear and Voice navigation and recognition is a plus.
Once again Copilot proves that it is the best.

Look out!
by brassspike ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: The GPS portion of this unit works fine.
Cons: Poor map base and customer service.
The GPS portion of this unit works fine, it's the software that you should look out for. The map base was very poor for my area. Streets that have been here for many years are not in the map base. Field paths to nowhere are in there though! The worst part is the customer service. They ask you to provide them with data on errors and then want to charge you $99 per year for your own work and even then there is no assurance that the update will contain your data. Buy from someone that will update the database. Would not buy again!

Very Poor Service
by peterluvsbeer ,Apr 05 '04
Pros: Good mapping for Australia.
Cons: Bugs, extremely poor customer service
The latest version has a bug which won't allow you to save the "Current Location". This was a desirable feature for me. Customer service isn't just poor it's non-existent. The alk website boasts customer service replies by the next business day. After two emails and two weeks I'm still waiting for even an acknowledgement of my messages.
The Australian agent is just as bad, however the dealer has tried to help.
