I have had nothing but problems with this Uniden model and it is the second Uniden I will be throwing down the garbage chute. The reception is LOUSY. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment (approximately 800 square feet) and the two handsets could not cover this range! The caller i.d. had a mind of its own- sometimes I'd get the full number, sometimes just the area code. When the battery is low, the handset will beep three times and then cut you off- plus, trying to switch from one phone to the other when this happens is truly impossible. The static became a routine occurrence, even when I was near the base- channel switching did not help whatsoever.
I am now using a temporary $10 phone from the drugstore and it is a thousand times better than the Uniden ever was.
I am only giving one star because negative stars are not available...

Pros: Nice answering machine and telephone feel.

I was not very happy with this particular Uniden phone that I purchased at Sears. Everything worked on the phone but its range was very poor. I could not even use the phone upstairs in my house without a lot of noise. Its range is approximately 20-30 feet without static. I returned the phone and got my money back.

Cons: WON'T WORK DURING POWER-OUTAGE!!!!!

I wanted to find a cordless telephone/digital answering machine that had message playback that was understandable. Many digital answering machines playback with garbled sound. I had never tried a Uniden product before and am generally pleased with every function of the cordless telephone and answering system. It is easy to setup and easy to use. The playback buttons on the answering machine are easy to see and use and the led message number indicator is great.

Now for the exception: Never before have I had a telephone that won't work during a power-outage. Of course, I didn't find this out until the first power-outage well after the time I could return the phone. There's a tiny blurb on page 52 of the manual that explains that the phone won't work during power-outages. UNACCEPTABLE! So, there's a lesson learned: read the entire manual the first day you buy any product.
