Veo Stingray Web Cam

Pros: Meets/exceeds most video-conferencing needs for $20. Sturdy build. Adequate image controls.
Cons: Acceptable/poor color saturation. Poor as a standalone cam. Shovelware in install consumes space.

I read some of the earlier reviews about the Veo Stingray but I still decided to try the camera out. It cost only $20 at Wal-Mart and all I wanted was a basic webcam which met the requirements for Yahoo! Messenger and would work on my older Pentium II ...

not the best but still not the worst.. its really slow and has a bad picture. i hate it that most of the pictures arn't clear. you can see all the litle dots and my friends tell me they don't like it.. but the thing is it was cheep at the time, and thats all we could get...

I bought this at Walmart for $20 a year ago. It is easy to use and for the price I was impressed how well it worked on web camera mode. I was disappointed with the picture mode however and it doesn't take the best of pictures. I have used it on aol, msn and yahoo messenger services and it works great. Most of my friends spent a lot of money on their web cameras which are Logitec, but mine outperforms their's in quality on web cam mode. It does the job and when combined with high speed internet is fast also. I used it on dial up a few months ago and it works well also, just slower of course.

If you are looking for something to use on the messenger services this is a great buy for the price!

I was looking for a cam and I was on a budget at the time when I bought this cam. For the price, it is okay when used on instant messenger programs. And is great for those that are new to using web cams. If you are looking for something that will get the job done, I would suggest this, but if you want something that is more advanced, offers VERY clear pictures and the best when it comes to color, I would suggest you spend a little more $.

First off, let me say that I got quite a deal on this webcam. I bought it at Best Buy and I got a $10.00 instant rebate/refund. So I ended up paying a few pennies over ten bucks for it.

No it's not the flashiest, the crispest, the fastest webcam out there. It is a good workhorse for the average person to use for video calls. The included software is a tish bit confusing at first, but like any other piece of software, if you futz with it enough, you'll find settings you can live with.

I've used mine for almost 2 years with only a few problems.

Updated drivers are available.

I have owned this webcam for over year now and when I use it - it causes more frustration than it is worth. The picture quality is terrible in snapshot mode and when using it in broadcast mode, it is always too dark. Then there are all the errors that you get when using it with XP. There is a file that is supposed to delete itself after a session that sometimes doesn't... then the camera won't respond. Each time this happens you have to go in manually and delete the file and then run a utility from the Veo site - WAY too much trouble! I would not recommend the Stingray at all. It is a piece of junk. There are some higher end webcams out there that are a lot better and a lot easier to use.

I have had this product for over a year now. Overall its really a good product to have but it has its pros and cons.

Product does not get along well with Virus Scan software. Running on Windows ME and using McAfee VirusScan, if VirusScan loads before you log in (with a family login established) then the driver never loads. The camera can't be found and a review of the drivers list shows the device as unknown. If you're quick you can log in before VirusScan loads and all will work. However the amount of light this $20.00 cam requires will force you to wear sun screen SPF 50. For a few dollars more you can get a better cam.

Very bad picture, extremely slow video frames with jumping ghosts as you move in front of the camera. I wasted long hours trying to adjust the exposure and the colors, without success. I did all that after installing the latest driver from veo.com Cannot adjust the picture while on a video conference. I had to exit the conference, run the Veo Studio, adjust settings, then back to the video conference Bottom line: I will return this webcam and get my money back

This is the first Webcam i purchased and decided to go with the cheapest one. Never again will i do this. Although the camera is very easy to setup and use it's performance has issues. The lighting required has to be practically blinding and the snapshots are fuzzy. I don't know what the framerate on this camera is but it's very slow. Capturing video is like in slow motion and the quality is very fuzzy. I tried adjusting the settings as best i could to possibly improve the lighting and the Slow motion video it captures but the setting don't do much to improve the performance. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this camera if your interested in picture perfect snapshot quality and normal motion video. you get what you pay for here...wouldn't give this one away...fuzzy picture quality...blured video...cant get the lighting just right..dont buy this one if you are interested in the least bit on quality...
