Pros: Attractive; well-thought out and highly customizable interior; pleasant to use on a daily basis. Cons: Shallow, therefore not much interior space. Reliability issues. Installation must be done by professional carpenters.
A few years ago, we redid our kitchen to include high end appliances. One of our choices was a "built-in" look refrigerator. My wife chose this Viking refrigerator-over-freezer over a competing and less expensive Sub Zero of roughly the same ...

Verify Installation is Correct!
by designnyc ,Jun 27 '08
Pros: Nice looking exterior, fits flush with cabinets. Cons: Price, loud compressor motor, awkward meat/produce drawer, badly placed door shelves, difficult to install.
Please, be sure to check that your installers install the units anti-tipping device into the studs in your wall. Many installers are taking short cuts and they don't realize these are heavy appliances that will rip the bolts right out of dry wall causing the unit to fall.
My 6 month old Viking Fridge ripped the bolts right out of the wall and fell. The only reason I am here alive is that the door somehow swung open at just the right angle and hit the floor which stopped the fridge from crushing me underneath.
I was told that the installers were at fault with their installation, but honestly how does any one know if they are doing their job correctly? And why is an item like this so difficult for the installers to install?

BAD SERVICE BAD CONSTRUCTION
by ronishi ,Nov 13 '06
Pros: widely distributed Cons: BAD SERVICE apparently shoddy construction and/or quality control.
I wavered between Viking and Subzero as the two leading high end refrigerator brands, but the usual distributor I had business with no longer carried Subzero leading me to a choice with Viking. I SHOULD NEVER HAD DONE THAT. After about 2 months of minimal use (I use another refrigerator for beverages) the door hinge broke. What was truly frustrating is that when I called service, the hours are limited and they repeated tell me that someone is coming out and no one shows. The distributor in Southern California, Sues Young, apparently only answers the phone and pretends to send someone out. Given the expense of the product and the low level of customer service I would recommend going to Sub-zero. My original Sub-zero range lasted 15 years with few problems and service was a snap.
