Pros: Easy to use, VERY thorough protection. The full-time shields give me continuous peace of mind! Cons: Not free. (But definitely worth it)
Last Thanksgiving, when I should have been busy cooking a turkey, and getting the house ready for company, I found myself, instead, obsessing over the fact that my computer seemed to have been possessed. I was battling against popups, advertisements, ...
Pros: Good price, easy to use and install, and it works. Cons: Update reminders may pop up at inconvenient times; running system sweeps is time-consuming.
Having virus protection nowadays is not enough. In fact, hackers and other evil computer geniuses are turning more and more to obscure cyber-plagues, those that not only wreck your system, but pilfer your personal information, as well. What is most ...
Pros: Stable, works well, catches a bunch of spyware. Large definition db. Free upgrades 1 yr. Cons: HOSTS shield takes 1 minute to 'pop up' after I've changed file. Oh big!
I've been a PC guy -> server admin -> network engineer now for 15 years. I used the free anti-spyware products for a number of years, tried a few trial offers on other products. I checked around, wasn't happy with the free ones (Adaware, ...
Pros: none...well it USED TO BE good. Cons: Sucks CPU resources, slows systems to a crawl, buggy, etc.
A horrible piece of software..... I do corporate security work for a living & retired from law enforcement. Obviously the two do not make me an "expect" simply based on a title. But, my extensive training in IT, Network Security, etc. does put me ...
Pros: Nothing I can think of, when compared to Ad Aware Cons: Worst customer service ever, poor comparative function, charges fee.
The newer versions of Spy Sweeper have some major operational glitches - simply would not run after upgrading from older version.
Took 19 days (almost 3 weeks!), for a service rep to even RESPOND to my complaints that the software wasn't working.
This is below "lousy" customer service. It is unforgiveable and indicates a basic lack of concern for the customer.
My recommendation:
Ad Aware SE, by LavaSoft.
And it's FREE, compared to $20 for Spy Sweeper.
And... it's better. After running the earlier version of Spy Sweeper for 6 months, I ran Ad Aware and it uncovered 23 different spy files and two tracker files that were missed by SS. And, Ad Aware did the sweep faster.
Next, I waited two weeks, ran Ad Aware again, found 5 more files. Ran SS... nothing.
The point? Ad Aware finds everything SS does, but SS can't find everything Ad Aware does. And, again, Ad Aware is FREE.
I am not associated with Ad Aware in any way - just want to pass along the info.
Spy Sweeper and CoolWebSearch by trish6061 ,Jun 28 '05
Pros: Seemed pretty good until CoolWebSearch got in! Cons: Tech support could be better!
Sorry guys, but Spy Sweeper can't remove the junk added to my registry after we were infected with CoolWebSearch. Tech support at Webroot offers a refund, which I wanted to request, but unfortunately, the link is bad or the page is missing!? At first I thought my problems were because of my computer, but I can't access the "request a refund" page from my work computer, either. I have now twice e-mailed tech support, and filled out a customer satisfaction survey online, with no reply or results after 1 1/2 weeks. The cost to purchase was only $19.95, but after purchasing Spysweeper and other products designed to tack these problems, it added up to almost $90 spent on zero results. Bummer!
Pros: It is a smooth operating program with no deceptive advertising. Cons: No complaints
I was using CounterSpy and Adaware. The spyware was getting the best of me. Then the kids went to Myspace.com and in a few minutes the spyware was completely out of control. After many reviews I tried Spy Sweeper and it got the job done. My computer also ran slow but I was running SpySweeper and CounterSpy at the same time. I turned off CounterSpy and the computer response time was as good as it ever was. So far I am comfortable with SpySweeper.
Pros: program is okay Cons: Customer service is nonexistent.
I have been waiting nearly a week for a response to an email question on the Webroot site regarding my Spysweeper service. Meanwhile, I installed it on a new computer, and even though I have another month on my subscription, it's saying my subscription has expired. Therefore, I'm without service until I hear from them, and the days of my subscription are ticking away. No response whatsoever for days. I don't believe I WILL renew at this point.
One of the best SpyWare removers by aceracer ,Oct 07 '04
Pros: One of the best at getting the bad stuff off. Cons: Yearly subscription, no auto updates.
I'm a PC tech and lately SpyWare/AdWare has made my life rough! This stuff has completely infested the internet much worse than virus.
I have tried most of the SpyWare removers out there. SpyBot, AdAware, I've tried most of 'em. SpySweeper has done the best job for me at removing this crap from my customers machines. I install it (along with anti-virus) on ALL my new machines BEFORE they get on the internet for the first time. It's not the best as far as updates are concerned though. You must MANUALLY check for updates to the program & definitions. So I have to spend time educating my clients on it's use and HOPE they keep up with it. I would rate the product excellent if they could add auto updates somehow. Otherwise it's worth the money.
