Pros: Absolutely excellent Cons: not usually available in bars and restaurants
Rare Breed is arguably the finest spirit produced by the finest bourbon purveyor in the land, Austin Nichols. Rare Breed is a blend of 6yr, 8yr and 12 yr old Wild Turkey, and is bottled uncut at barrel proof. The particular proof of the bottle I'm...
Pros: Smooth, yet strong. Complex, but not overpowering. Cons: availability
I am continuing my quest to find the perfect Bourbon. Fortunately, since there is no such thing, I will have to sample every brand available before I pass on. I have had the original Wild Turkey and was not really impressed. It was average to say the ...
Pros: Availability and Price! Cons: None that i have found
In my youth I was subjected to "Tennessee" whiskey ie. Jack Daniels. I left the "American Bourbon" scene in 1982 and soley consumed Canadian brands till October of 2000. I purchased Wild Turkey Spirit and my life changed from that...
Pros: The best tasting Bourbon Cons: Availability (although I've turned on 3 stores to it)
In the 80's and 90's my two best friends and I hiked periodically in the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. We carried an adequate brand of whiskey with us to sip around the campsite in the evening. Since weight is a premium in hiking, anything we ...
I guess I first found Wild Turkey Rare Breed very soon after its initial appearance on the market. As an avid lover of Wild Turkey 101, I was happy to discover this excellent liquor. This is a sippin' whiskey, best experienced (by most people) straight,...
Rare Breed: A Study in Perfection by sinbad12 ,Apr 18 '06
Pros: Refined. A most wonderful drinking experience, to be experienced over and over again. Cons: Availability. I have to search it out. Fortunately, it's a labor of love.
I was given my first bottle of Wild Turkey RARE BREED for Christmas three years ago. I'd never heard of it before then. My first drink of the amber nectar convinced me that I will never be without it again. Or the friends that gave it to me. Both, very special. It was liquid velvet going over my palate, the finest of silks. It never exploded when it reached it's final destination. Just a warm glow. Let me say, here and now, I love Bourbon. Scotch is a high second but Bourbon is my chosen love. A welcome respite in a world of coarse whiskeys. It is well worth the price ... no matter what it costs. Perfection is like that. ALWAYS worth the price. You still get what you pay for. My time is valuable, at least to me. I no longer see any reason to waste it imbibing in inferior bourbons. Drink responsibly, always enjoy it. Feel the smoothness, it is like no other. Closest I have ever been to an oral orgasm.
40 years and worth the wait by zombieking ,Jun 09 '05
Pros: Packs a wallop, smooth and civilized. A refined bourbon not be wasted on the young. Cons: It will eventually run out.
My brother got me a bottle of Rare Breed for my 40th birthday this past December. I sipped at it lovingly for months and occasionally shared a nip with my father who is definitely a bourbon expert. While I appreciated it's clean smooth finish my dad said it was the best bourbon he had ever tasted. I recommend it highly for you or for your old man.
Pros: The finest bourbon I have ever tasted. Cons: Sorrow that I did not taste it earlier.
I am an experienced whiskey drinker, with tastes that include Scotch, Irish, bourbon and rye. When my local liquor store had a promotional special on Rare Breed, I picked up a bottle to give it a try.
My first taste of Rare Breed was a revelation. I did not know bourbon could taste that good. At the current batch strength of 108.5 proof, I was tempted to add water, but started neat in a snifter to get the full flavor. I never got to the water. Rare Breed is amazingly smooth and flavorful, with a refined finish that transports you to a finer world. If you are a whiskey sipper, you owe it to yourself to try a bottle.
Rare Breed is a barrel strength blended bourbon, with the batch blend printed on the neck band. As of early 2007, the batch is WT03RB. I may lay back a few bottles for the future, when the blend will change.
Rare, but you need to drink it neat or with very light ice. by audiofilez ,Sep 21 '05
Pros: Robust while being very civilized, lends itself to being sipped (not drank) neat. Cons: Expensive and all your other bourbon just became just a little less drinkable.
I believe the whole point of this bourbon is it's the most powerful flavor in a whiskey you can get without any harshness from the fermintation. So to dilute it much is to miss the art of this particular spirit.
Drinking it neat you will notice a robust front end that just mellows so quick and nicely. So, naturally you take your time between sips as you savor it. A bourbon that took time and a lot of experience to make like this naturally lends itself to a very slow sipping. And speaking of it mellow...I mean it is just plain complex. A multi-pronged sweetness (caramels, vanillas, cinnamons, and the best tastes that bourbon can render) and light woodiness, and most importantly all this without any harshness period.
It boils down to this. If you've drank bourbon for a while and you've got to the point where you like a smooth bourbon neat you owe it to yourself to try this. Jimmy Russell, the dean of Kentucky master distillers, isn't on a pinnacle among his peers for nothing and this bourbon is all the proof that will ever be needed to cement that reputation.
I started drinking bourbon a month ago... and... by frankiejayiii ,Nov 01 '08
Pros: Smooth, Tasty, Good Value Cons: Where can I buy more? Sometimes thats a good question.
By far THE BEST, bourbon I have tried, and I don't know if anything can compare. I thought that I liked other bourbons, but then on a whim I tried this gem.
