My XTR1 died yesterday after 13 months of daily use. I was informed by Xact customer service that they will not honor my warranty.I can send my unit back with $99.95 and they will send one back with a one year warranty. I am sitting
with a Boom box and "walkman adaptor" and no confidence at all that if I send my unit back I won't be in the same boat 2 months from now. Reading the other reviews it doesn't appear as if the newer units perform any more reliably than mine.

I've had mine for over 3 years now with no issues what so ever. I've used the FM Transmitter to play through my home stereo and it worked perfectly. The Xact portable pod I purchased to go with it also works very well. I am replacing it now only because my kids stepped all over it in my back seat floor...not their fault, still works just looks a little banged up is all. Anyway....Love it.

Pros: Good for at least a few months.
Cons: Very expensive purchase for such a short lived product.

I originally wanted the Sirius brand receiver but instead an Xact brand was purchased for me as a gift. I bought the large and heavy boombox mate for use between home and work. Within four months the unit began to flash on and off, beeping while listening, until eventually that was all it did. I was able to get a replacement free of charge and my listening pleasure was restored. About six months later the unit began to malfunction once again. Beeping on and off, flashing the display "Antenna not detected". This time I had to purchase another because it was no longer under warranty, the new unit worked good long enough for me to have it activated by Sirius but by the next morning??? Well, let's just say this time it was the result of the boombox. Now I'm stuck with a receiver and I will NOT purchase another Xact boombox, or accessory for it.

Only electronic product I've ever purchased that stopped working after just a couple months of regular use. Runs very, very hot! When I turn it on, it just reboots over and over again. Customer service said to return to them, but from what I'm hearing from others, this is a waste of time. Now, I'm stuck with home kit and car kit for a radio I would never buy again.

Pros: SOUNDS like a good idea, portable, lightweight, versatile.

This unit is a piece of junk! I bought it thinking it would be great to use at home (in the boombox unit) or in the car. The first few days it worked, but it completely conked out after less than two months. Trying to get a replacement under the one year warranty has been a joke. I returned the unit, which still had more than 6 months left on the warranty, to the company, and received a letter from XACT demanding $99 to repair or replace the unit. I was told by the staff that the letter is sent out to all who return products. Sounds like a scam to me. I'm still waiting for them to return the unit. At this point, I don't care if I receive a replacement or the original that doesn't work, it's going back to the retailer (Costco). I'm thankful that there are some scrupulous companies out there yet. XACT isn't one of them.

I purchased this from Costco and it worked for about one week. It started to make a strange sound when I turned it on until it just stopped working altogether. I am returning it today.

Pros: Good sound. May try XM next year.

My unit started the rebooting bit. I have had mine for 1 1/2 years and wasn't going to bother with returning it, so....I just took the receiver out of the boom box and banged it real hard against a metal cabinet and put it back in, turned it on and it works again. If I turn the radio off I have to bang it again. I have nothing to loose....and it does start working again. This thing is like a Timex watch. It really takes a licking.

I've had mine since Xmas and it's worked great without a hitch. Better sound quality than either the Starmate or the Starmate Replay.

This radio worked fine for me for about a year. Then I had problems with the antenna connection. I ordered new antenna and new dongle (the plug that connects to the radio and the power supply and antenna) but haven't gotten the new parts to work at all. This was after I ordered them, paid extra for two-day shipping, waited two weeks, finally called and sent angry emails, and was told the item was backordered. I never got a refund for the extra shipping cost (it wasn't offered) and the damn thing still doesn't work. Based on what others have written here, I'm not going to bother to try to return and get my money back. Just chalking it up to experience--should've looked here before I bought it the first time.

I have enjoyed radio my entire life and the thought of satellite radio intrigued me enough to invest in a receiver and subscription for the past two years from Serius. Reception in Northern New England is spotty at times, but for the most part better than local stations offer for clarity and diversification. I was enticed to purchased another radio for my spouse , the new Stiletto 2 with accessories and another yearly subscription. Serius would like you to believe that as a customer you will easily be swayed by clever marketing schemes, and offers and discounts they will not honor.

My recent purchase promised discounts from my AAA membership , free shipping etc etc. These discounts when billed were not honored, by Serius and I must say their Customer Service is probably the rudest, most unprofessional individuals I have ever been subjected to. Products are fine and smart looking and work well. Oh by the way, don't be fooled that you are subscibing to an all non-commercial radio service, over 50 % of all stations under service carry commercials.

Cons: Terribly made - it overheats and fails.

I bought the XTR1 on 11/30/05 - took it home only to find it did not work. I returned it same day, and got another. After 3 months it would sometimes fail to lock onto a signal. After 3.5 months it is completely dead. By then it is too late to get your money back. Many people have said the same thing. It looks cool, but it will not last! Many people have the same experience of the first on they buy not working at all! I hope there is a class action law suit over this one!

This is my second radio in less than a year. They both just reboot over and over. You would think Sirius would be aware of the problem. I now have a boom box a radio and two car kits that are useless. I won't own another one.
