Pros: Possibly the best looking output available on plain paper Cons: Slow, expensive price per page, wax melts on printed pages
Would this Phaser be worthy of Captain Kirk? We picked up our Phaser to fill the need for a high-speed color printer to produce software user manuals in house. The Phaser advertised 24 page per minute output in stunning color on plain paper. We ...
Pros: Prints with a better finish than a Color Laser printer. Prints better than an InkJet. Cons: Frequent power outages may cause the printer to use ink excessively, triggering successive cleaning mode.
Do you ever get tired of spending money on ink cartridges for your current printer? Do you ever get discouraged when you see your printed copy smear from a tiny single drop of water? Have you ever stained your fingers or items when refilling your ink ...
Pros: superb prints
eco-friendly Cons: uses solid ink sticks rapidly
waxy surface of prints means you can't write on them
I'm part of a start-up graphic design company. We purchased the Phaser 8400 based on reviews and comments from other designers and are very happy with the unit. For those not in the know, the Phaser 8400 is a solid ink printer. Instead of the usual color ...
Pros: High print quality!
Improved design over 8200.
More technician friendly.
Cons: The biggest con I can think of is the cost of ink.
I'm a technician who works on Xerox Printers, Copiers and Fax Machines. I can honestly say that the 8400 has a better design than it's predecessors, the 8200, 860, 850, and 840. The first improvement is the ink used when starting up. When a solid ...
Pros: Easy setup, fast printing, B&W text very crisp Cons: Expensive, jams easily, wastes ink
I, too, have a boat anchor. Being that this was my first color laser printer after years of purchasing only B&W lasers, I did a lot of research. I liked a lot of models, but I was interested in the Solid Ink technology. I paid $1700 for the DN model. ...

Pros: Fast Cons: Ink is EXPENSIVE, stripes are ubiquitous, print heads priced like space shuttle parts.
Ours is a little over 2 years old, with 60K pages on the clock. Stripes appear, disappear, appear. Cleaning it and starting it up consume LOTS of ink. Ink is sold in 3-paks from Xerox at $99 per color- no discounts. We switched to a non-Xerox ink. Now our dealer won't touch it because of non-Xerox inks. Faster than an inkjet is about its only plus. The four print heads (which clog, go bad) sell for around $1000, which is more than the printer costs. All in all, a poor printer IMHO.
Pros: Nice full color glossy printouts. Fast. Cons: $$$$$$$$$ waster. Get a good laser printer instead.
Normally I don't bother to write my opinion about anything but at this point I am so fed up with this printer that I have to do it.
First of all every time you turn it on it will waste about $30 to $50 worth of ink (if you buy it from Xerox, 50% cheaper on Internet) just by cleaning itself. Then you will get the missing stripes in one or more colors after 50 or so pages of full color printouts. Sometimes you can get up to 100 pages of good quality printouts. Then, if the stripes appear, you have to run the printer through cleaning process, wasting the ink and $$$$ again. The most frustrating thing about it is that you can never leave the printer alone. You have to always sit there and monitor for stripes to appear. I have waisted a lot of paper and ink by having hundreds of bad printouts while leaving the printer unattended.
Pros & Cons of the Phaser 8400 by angeliqueny ,Dec 30 '05
Pros: Fast printing, high-quality graphics, works GREAT on photos with good glossy paper Cons: Ink is kind of expensive, not recommended for everyday home use
I've had this printer for almost a year. I am an executive assistant and I set up product presentations which means I do a LOT of printing. (My total print count is currently over 23,000 pages) The prints are always top quality and it is perfect for graphic design work.
The only drawback that I've had from the printer is, as has been stated in other reviews, it KILLS ink. There are several sites that sell compatible ink, which have worked fine for me. (The Supplies Guys are my personal faves)
I haven't had a problem as far as losing ink to restarting my printer. (It really is too expensive to waste) Put the printer in power saver mode, that way it doesn't have to go through the test process every time you turn it on.
All in all it's a great printer and comes highly recommended if you need a fast, graphic-oriented printer.
Pros: pretty pictures Cons: expensive, expensive, not worth it
Beautiful pictures but VERY expensive to replace ink. Even though it showed there was a lot of the color ink solids it still wanted it full. We replaced the "kit" after a year and a half and it never worked again. The color shavings were on the barrel and it wouldn't clean no matter what we did. It just kept jamming. The repair person said to use it as an anchor for our boat.
Pros: Fast with ethernet hookup. Cons: Unreliable, expensive to maintain, wastes ink, has trouble with reds.
At first we were thrilled. Then, as another reviewer has noted, the "stripes" began to appear. The printer has a self-cleaning mode for getting rid of "stripes" but we burned up about $100in ink running the fix seven times, and it did not solve the problem. Next is $100+ for a service tech who replaced two plastic tabs that had cracked - says it happens all the time. He said that a clogged jet in the print head caused the stripes. Ran a fix that didn't work. Said the print head would have to be replaced $750. We've had the machine 14 months and have given it low - moderate use. Between self-cleaning and the ink it dumps into the "waste tray" periodically for reasons unknown, this printer uses a lot of ink that isn't related to printing. The best fix deal the supplier could offer us at this point was $300 for replacing the print head if we took out a 1 year service agreement for another $300+. In our experience, we get far fewer pages per ink cube than Xerox indicates.
